Bathgate Rangers
Statistically this game was about as close as you could be. SOG 38-34 T, FO 51-49% B
Blocks went big to Toledo with 21-12 edge and Toledo was 1 for 4 on PP while Bathgate was 0 for 3. Shot attempts 67-66 B and Bathgate held the scoring chance edge 21-17. Rangers also had the edge in goal with Halak stopping 36 of the 38 shots that made it to him while Binnington stopped 29 of the 33 he faced.FIRST PERIOD – Schwartz got things going 5 minutes in for a 1-0 Rangers lead. Backstrom tied it with a PP goal with 3 to go, but Giroux quickly got the lead back for Bathgate less than a minute later and the 1st ends 2-1 Bathgate.SECOND PERIOD – Pageau (who wins 16 faceoffs) scores 8 minutes in to retie the game and giving Toledo a needed boost. But then McCann steals the puck and scores unassisted 5 minutes later and the Rangers regain the lead 3-2 and that’s how period 2 ends.

THIRD PERIOD – Game is still 3-2 with 2 minutes to go when Vrana redirects a ZBad shot into the net for a big 4-2 lead. Then the Walleye send Binnington to the bench for the extra attacker and after a big Halak save, DeAngelo gets the puck out to Vrana who passes to ZBad and ZBad looking to kill time, sees a path to the empty net and fires it home for a 5-2 lead and that’s how it ends.
STARS (all BGR)
1. Vrana 1 goal, 1 assist
2. Giroux 1 goal, 1 assist
3. Zibanejad 1 goal, 1 assist

WEEKLY SUMMARY: Rangers take care of home ice with the 5-2 win over Toledo and hope to do something similar to them on the road. Then Thunder Bay!!!!

Toews and Soderberg score within 35 seconds of each other midway through the period. Fiala scores for Gilbert to make it a 2-1 game at the end of 1. No scoring in the 2nd. Dadonov and Toews score early in the 3rd to put Chicago up 1. Fiala scores to cut the lead to 2 but Dadonov and Subban score to finish a 6-2 Chicago win.

WEEKLY SUMMARY: Gilbert loses it’s only home game of the week
LA Great Danes
WEEKLY PREVIEW: 3 Home Games, with 4 games in the 3 day schedule

Charlotte Buzzards
@
LA Great Danes
A twist on the David Ayres story – he gets the start with plans to bring Elvis on in relief after one period. OMG – Larkin scores 10 seconds into the game – maybe this was a bad idea! But Ayres settles in and actually makes a number of big saves. He gives up one more goal, but finishes the period with 14 saves on 16 SOG, a decent .875 save percentage. Charlotte actually has 12 scoring chances – seemed like every shot on Ayres was considered a chance to score.

So Ayres leaves in glory with a well played period, if not a lead or victory. Rumor has it he came back after period 2 to drive the zamboni.

After that, the rest of the game was non-eventful. Charlotte scores 2 more goals on Elvis to closeout a 4-0 road win.

Bucks County Raccoons
@
LA Great Danes
This was a close game all the way, with the teams exchanging leads a few times. The final goal came from TJ Oshie, and the Racs come away with a 4-3 win. The ‘coons also come away with the 3 stars of the game – Oshie 2G-1A, Kane 1G-1A, and McDavid 3A.

Brentwood Bandits@
LA Great Danes
Game 3 of the homestand was a barn-burner. The scoring started 27 seconds in as LA takes an early lead, but 6 goals were scored in the game’s first 12 minutes, and Brentwood has a 4-2 lead after one.

Two PPG’s by LA in period 2 were sandwiched around a Kessel goal for the Bandits, and Brentwood’s lead is 5-4 after 2 periods.

26 seconds into the 3rd, Jack Roslovic scores his 3rd goal of the game to tie the game at 5. Brentwood’s Tanner Pearson gets the game winner late, and the Bandits get the 6-5 win.

WEEKLY SUMMARY: LA won their road game this week but lose 3 at home. But the highlight of the week was an entertaining period in goal by EBUG David Ayres.
Charlotte Buzzards
WEEKLY PREVIEW: The Buzzards were looking to play the role of spoiler as they hosted a Bucks County team still battling with the California Regulators for the best record in the Western Conference. It was Charlotte’s lone home game this week.

Bucks County Raccoons

Charlotte Buzzards
In a game where it was playing for pride, the Buzzards unloaded its firepower and grabbed a wild victory, 12-7. The Buzzards’ Bryan Rust scored an astonishing four goals in the first period, including notching the hat trick during a furious three-minute span midway through the opening stanza, as Charlotte overcame the early 2-1 deficit and seized the lead for good. He finished with five goals and an assist for first-star honors.

Sparked by Rust, Charlotte led 6-2 after the first period. Second star honors went to Anders Lee who recorded both his Charlotte goals in the second period. Bucks County goalie Anton Khudobin was mercifully replaced during the second period by Ben Bishop.

Dylan Larkin added a goal and three assists for Charlotte for the third star honors.

WEEKLY SUMMARY: Charlotte has a franchise-record scoring night and looks to finish strong as it aims for its best season ever from a total points standpoint. It will all still only be good for third place in the incredibly competitive Atlantic.
Toledo Walleye
WEEKLY PREVIEW: Portland and Bathgate travel to Toledo this week. One of these three teams will be in the playoffs. Hint: Not Toledo

Bathgate Rangers
@
Toledo Walleye
Bathgate 5, Toledo 2 – 1st period includes an exciting 6 minutes which sees both teams tally 2 goals. First Laughton for Toledo off a nice feed. Then 3 minutes later Tavares on a breakaway to tie it up. A minute later van Riemsdyk on a successful penetration effort. And then again a minute later McCann evens it up. Off to the 2nd period.

The rest of the game is all Rangers ……………. or more specifically all Zibanejad. That little devil rattles off 3 goals in the final 2 periods. 2 of them powerplay, as the Walleye get an assist a couple times.

Game ends 5-2 visitors.

1st star – Guess Who – hat trick, GWG
2nd – McCann 1G
3rd – Reimer 34 saves

Portland Storm
@
Toledo Walleye
Portland 3, Toledo 1 – Portland comes in and gives the Walleye the 3 Gees in the first period. Gallagher, Greenway and Granlund. All score goals in the first and take control of the game.

Toledo starts a comeback in the 2nd period on a goal from Hoffman, but the teams just runs out of gas. In fact both teams do, managing only 21 SOG combined the final 2 periods as 2 lottery teams grind this one out.

1st star – Gallagher 1G
2nd – Greenway 1G
3rd – Granlund 1G

No love for Holtby and his 14 saves on 15 shots.

WEEKLY SUMMARY: Pretty pathetic offensive effort for the Walleye. Tweaks in order for the final week.
Chicago Cosa Nostra
WEEKLY PREVIEW: Simming games for Chicago, home versus Gilbert and New Jersey
