Bathgate Rangers
WEEKLY PREVIEW: Rangers get 1 home game this week against a young and struggling Portland group. Can we at least do well in this one?

Portland Storm
@
Bathgate Rangers
The game was a major storm for Portland as the Rangers came out quick and often! Rangers wasted no time getting 2 goals before the 10 minute mark in period 1 and got 3 total. They then got 3 more in the 2nd – all 6 were even strength goals – but then they only had 2 PP opportunities. Portland did manage a 2nd period goal – Palat – but that was their offense. Tatar got the Rangers hat trick – set up each time by ZBad. Buchnevich tallies twice and Reimer has another good day in the nets in the 6-1 victory.
STARS (all BGR)
1. Tatar 3 goals
2. Buchnevich 2 goals
3. Zibanejad 3 assists

WEEKLY SUMMARY: 1 for 1 and handily – we’ll take it and hope to build on it. But….
Alamo Defenders
WEEKLY PREVIEW: Chicago visits Alamo in the only home game of the week for the Defenders.

Chicago Cosa Nostra
@
Alamo Defenders
Alamo explodes in the 1st period as they take advantage of some power play opportunities. Marchand scores and is followed by Stamkos netting two goals. At the end of the first period, Alamo leads, 3-0.

The second period is a different story as Chicago takes advantage of Caggiula’s penalty. Pastrnak scores on the power play and Chicago as momentum. DeBrincat scores within a minute and Chicago is only down by one.

Early in the 3rd, Pastrnak scores his 2nd goal of the game. It’s tied. With 5:14 to go, Toews scores the go ahead goal. Then, with an empty net, Dahlin puts the game away with his 3rd goal of the year.

Chicago dominated the 2nd and 3rd periods with better defense and goaltending.

Chicago 5 Alamo 3

1st star – Pastrnak 2 goals
2nd star – Stamkos 2 goals
3rd star – DeBrincat 1 goal 1 assist

WEEKLY SUMMARY: Chicago wins 5-3 in a comeback victory.
LA Great Danes
WEEKLY PREVIEW: Last week was another disaster, giving Portland its first victory ever last week. Only one home game this week, versus Bathgate, along with the likelihood of 2 two repeat blowouts on the road, to Chicago and Jagr.

Bathgate Rangers
@
LA Great Danes
In period one, LA gets the lone goal, Adam Henrique’s team leading 9th goal. But true to form, the Danes find another way to do a total melt down. Back to back major boarding penalties in period 2, and the floodgates open, the Rangers scoring 4 times, 2 with the man advantage. The Rangers score again in the 3rd and coast to an easy 5-1 win.

Hertl 1G-1A and Giroux and Zibanejad 1G each are the 3 stars.

WEEKLY SUMMARY: Another blowout loss as the Danes drop deeper in the cellar. Pretty much nothing has worked for LA this season. Alex Pietrangelo’s nightmare season continues, zero goals in 21 games and a minus 12 rating. He seems to be sulking over his inexplicably low 7.5 D rating this season.
Toledo Walleye
WEEKLY PREVIEW: Cincinnati and Thunder Bay come to Maumee Bay to visit the Walleye.

Cincinnati Inferno
@
Toledo Walleye
Inferno 7, Walleye 2 – Cincinnati likes their fish well-done, and that is what they got. The sizzle starts early when Point scores just 57 second in. The cooking continues as Karlsson, Pageau, and Point all add goals before the horn sounds in the first. 4-0 at intermission.

Cincinnati continues the fish abuse adding goals from Pacioretty and Perron before the Walleye get a marker from Hoffman before the 2nd period ends, and its 6-1 going the 3rd.

Hoffman adds one more, and Schwartz get the last tally before the game mercifully ends.

1st star – Point 2G 3pts
2nd – Perron 1G 3pts
3rd – Pacioretty 1G 2pts

Thunder Bay NorWesters
@
Toledo Walleye
Toledo 3, Thunder Bay 2. — Connor takes the faceoff and scores just 13 seconds into the game, and its looking like another fish fry in the making. Binnington and the defense wake up and bring a halt to the scoring on one end. On the other side, the visitors become their worst enemy and give the Walleye 2 powerplay chances. Mantha takes advantage of both and gets his 8th and 9th goals of the season. We go to the 2nd period 2-1 Toledo.

Both teams kill off penalties in the 2nd, but its Smith who knocks one in at even strength to tie the game up at 2. Heading to the 3rd tied 2-2.

Great defense in the 3rd, and the NorWesters dominate play, getting 20 SOG. Binnington is able to stop them all, and it comes down to another penalty late, Hughes for a cross check, and Pettersson deflects a Barrie shot to send the home team crowd home happy, 3-2 winners.

1st star – Mantha 2G
2nd – Binnington 39 saves
3rd – Pettersson GWG

WEEKLY SUMMARY: Nice comeback win after getting blown off the ice in the first home game. Sometimes we play like guppies, and other times like Sharks. Gotta work on that.
Gilbert Sharks
WEEKLY PREVIEW: Gilbert with just one home game this week versus one of the league’s best-Bucks County

Bucks County Raccoons
@
Gilbert Sharks
Bucks County is quick out of the gate with a goal from Leddy just 48 seconds into the game and they hold the 1-0 lead through the 1st Period. McDavid extends the lead in the 2nd period with a goal and Khudobin looks like he is set to make it hold up. Then the 3rd period where Gilbert has struggled all year, Gilbert finally breaks through with a goal from Ennis. Kubalik ties it up 2-2 midway through the period and it’s a new game. Oshie puts Bucks County ahead with 3-2 just 2:30 minutes left but Gilbert gets goals from Tkachuk and the game winner from Danault with 1:08 left. A big 4-3 upset for Gilbert!

WEEKLY SUMMARY: Big win at home as Gilbert continues to improve and hopes to get to .500 soon.
Portland Storm
WEEKLY PREVIEW: Portland (2-12-5) hosts Chicago (10-9-1) and Jagr (14-2-3) in what could be a tough week

Pastrnak (18) opens the scoring for Chicago 7:34 into the game but Portland responds with goals from Olofsson (8) and Palat (6) to take a 2-1 lead after one period. In the second period Dadonov (12) scores with 5 minutes remaining to even the score after two periods. 2 minutes into the final period Pastrnak (19) gets his second goal of the game but Portland doesnt quit and ties the game on a PP goal by Oloffsson (9) to give some hope. With 1:50 remaining in the third period Kopitar (4) finds the back of the net to give Chicago a tough 4-3 win

Star #1 – Pastrnak 2 goals
Star #2 – Oloffson 2 goals
Star #3 – Kopitar 1 goal 1 assist

Toews 23 face offs won / Hutton 36 saves for Portland

Jagr Mullets
@
Portland Storm
The Metropoliton division leading Jagrs traveled to Portland and the Vegas oddsmakers were expecting a blowout. Portland played tough but a lack of skill and veteran presence couldnt stop the Mullets as Duchene (3) scored in the first period and Ovechkin (11) and Matthews (9) added goals in the third period to lead Jagr to a 3-0 win

Star #1 – Kuemper 21 saves and shutout
Star #2 – Matthews 1 goal
Star #3 – Ovechkin 1 goal

WEEKLY SUMMARY: As expected Portland played tough but lost both games for the week

Brentwood Bandits
WEEKLY PREVIEW: Bandits host Alamo, Toledo, and Portland this week.

Alamo Defenders
@
Brentwood Bandits
The high powered Alamo offense comes out gunning to the tune of 16 shots. Orlov (2) makes it 1-0 Defenders in the 1st. Time winding down, Vatrano (4) ties it for the Bandits at 18:36… 1-1 heading into the 2nd.

2nd period saw Vasilevskiy turn away 14 Alamo shots while his teammates put up a 2 spot with Pavelski (2) and Debrusk (7) beating Korpisalo.

3rd period – Bandits play some good defense and keep Alamo to 7 shots, but Stamkos manages to slip one by Vasi for his 11th of the season at 18:19. 3-2 Bandits lead, and that is where it would end.

Final
Bandits 3, Defenders 2

Toledo Walleye
@
Brentwood Bandits
Toledo comes into town fishing for a win…

Scoreless in the 1st until 18:03 when Mantha (8) puts the Walleye up 1-0. Toledo puts up 19 shots in the 1st to the Bandits 4!

2nd period sees Toledo continue to fire away at Nilsson, who gives Vasi a much needed break, to the tune of another 16 SOG, but Nilsson turns them all away! Kessel (4) and Debrusk (8) both score to make it a 2-1 Bandits lead!

3rd period… 2-1… It’s Brentwood who comes out firing, instead of sitting on the lead! 13 shots on goal to Toledo’s 7!

It was shot #14 that goes into an empty net to send the masked up and socially distanced crowd home happy…

Final
Bandits 3, Walleye 1

Portland Storm
@
Brentwood Bandits
The basement dwelling Portland Storm have been more of a drizzle this season thus far, but they come out and take a 1-0 lead in the 1st on a Rakell (4) goal.

2nd period sees the Bandits come out firing on all cylinders, but Hutton turns them all away while Gallagher (5) beats Nilsson to make it 2-0 Storm!

3rd period 20 seconds in, Tavares (10) pulls the Bandits within 1, but that is all they would muster with Hutton slamming the door and the Storm upsetting the Bandits at home…

Final
Storm 3, Bandits 2

WEEKLY SUMMARY: 3 home games, 2 wins. Not bad, but we beat one of the best teams in the league in Alamo, and then lose to the “worst” team in the league in Portland. So… still not sure about this group of guys. Maybe they need some off ice team building… 🙂

Thunder Bay Nor’Westers
WEEKLY PREVIEW: Two Home games this week vs Toledo and Yellowknife. Some minor lineup changes to better balance our lines.

Toledo Walleye
@
Thunder Bay NorWesters
A MONSTER game for Nor’Westers Rookie Goalie Ilya Samsonov. Toledo peppered the Thunder Bay goal with 101 shot attempts 64 penetrated and were shots on goal. Samsonov allow only 1 to get by him. That was a .984 save percentage. In the 3rd period alone Toledo put 32 shots on goal and Samsonov stopped all 32. Selected in the Season 3 Prospects draft where he stayed for Season 4 before joining the Nor’Westers for this season.

Toledo lone goal was scored at 00:52 of the 2nd period by Pettersson (8) assisted by Trocheck.

Thunder Bay Goals by: Quinn Hughes (3), Tyler Bertuzzi (2), Kyle Connor (11) Riley Smith (7 & 8) and finally Jack Eichel (11)

Yellowknife Braves
@
Thunder Bay NorWesters
This was a close game thru 40 minutes with Thunder Bay leading 4-3. Yellowknife’s goals by Rantanen (9), Bjorkstrand (9), Skjei (3). Thunder Bay goals by Necas (6), Landeskog (13 & 14), Connor (12).

The 3rd period was all Thunder Bay as the scored 3 more goals to make the final score 7-3.
Goals by Parayko (2), Connor (13) and the Hat Trick for Landeskog (15th)

WEEKLY SUMMARY: A really big confidence building week for Ilya Samsonov as he face 111 shots on goals. He made 107 save for a .964 save percentage and 2 wins.
Charlotte Buzzards
WEEKLY PREVIEW: Charlotte sat in third in the Atlantic entering this week, despite boasting one of the top defenses in the league. There’s just not enough offensive firepower to go around at the moment. The Buzzards welcomed the opportunity to host three games this week and potentially gain some ground.

Gilbert Sharks
@
Charlotte Buzzards
Charlotte, involved in yet another defensive standoff among many this season, overcame a 1-0 second period deficit to defeat the Sharks 3-1. Only 46 shots total were fired in the game (with Charlotte holding the slight 24-22 SOG advantage) as Carey Price narrowly outdueled Tuukka Rask. Rask played well enough to win but Nicolas Roy’s goal 4:55 into the third put the Buzzards over the top for good, 2-1, and an empty netter by Bryan Rust with 20 seconds left put the game on ice.

Three stars: All from Charloote
Star 2: Rust 1 G
Star 2: Roy 1 G (the game-winner)
Star 3: Ilya Mikheyev (1 G)

Notable: Gilbert’s Kevin Fiala scored the first goal of the game on the PP with just 2:19 underway, following an immediate interference call on Rust. Nathan MacKinnon and Artemi Panarin assisted.

Bathgate Rangers
@
Charlotte Buzzards
Charlotte again rallied in a low-scoring affair after trailing 2-1 and defeated Bathgate 3-2. Buzzards right-winger Craig Smith stunned the Rangers with a game-tying goal with 10 seconds left in the second that knotted the game at 2-2, and Rust scored the game winner in dramatic fashion with 1:34 left in the third period, off of assists from Dylan Larkin and Dougie Hamilton. Carey Price saved the day for the Buzzards with 39 saves. Bathgate goalie Jaroslav Halak also excelled, with 33 saves in a hard-luck defeat.

Three stars:
Star 1: CHA Price
Star 2: BGR Claude Giroux (1 G, 2 points)
Star 3: CHA Anders Lee 1 G

Notable: Lee’s goal put Charlotte ahead 1-0 before the Rangers grabbed the short-lived lead 2-1 on goals by Ryan Nugent Hopkins (PP) and Giroux in the second period.

California Regulators
@
Charlotte Buzzards
With Carey Price getting a deserved night off, the Regulators smoked the Buzzards and goalie Tristan Jarry, 6-0. Six different Regulator players found the net and California erupted in the second period with five goals to end a scoreless deadlock at the time. First star Philipp Grubauer shut the Buzzards out with 27 saves. Jarry, finished the game for Charlotte and made 32 saves.

Three stars (all from California)
Star 1: Grubauer, Shutout and 27 saves
Star 2: Mark Stone (1 G, 2 Pts)
Star 3: Eric Staal (1 G 2 pts)

Notable: Staal recorded the game winning goal on an assist from Matthew Barzal, 1:33 into the second period; Jay Bouwmeester added an unassisted goal just two minutes later as the Regulators never looked back. Sonny Milano and Patrick Kane accounted for the other Regulator goals.

WEEKLY SUMMARY: I can’t remember when this Charlotte squad last won two out of three home games when it was presented on the schedule, so we will take it, even if it includes a blowout loss. My Buzzards continue to be challenged whenever there is a backup goalie in net. Price as the number one goalie has overachieved this season, while Tristan Jarry and Jake Allen have surprisingly stumbled in nets.
Bucks County Raccoons
WEEKLY PREVIEW: Riding a 5 game winning streak the Racs host Bathgate and Jersey this week….

Bathgate Rangers
@
Bucks County Raccoons
Nugent-Hopkins had 2 goals and 1 assist and Georgiev turned aside 31 shots as Bathgate defeated Bucks County 5-3. Bathgate never trailed in the contest which wasn’t decided until a Strome empty net goal with 20 seconds left.

Bucks County Raccoons
Cartah Haht made 32 saves, including 18 in the 3rd period as the NJ Black Aces beat the Bucks County Raccoons 2-1. Forsberg and Garland scored for the Black Aces who took a 1 goal lead into the 3rd period and checked the game away from there.

WEEKLY SUMMARY: After a 5 game winning streak the Raccoons came out flatter than an opened day old bottle of champagne and dropped two home games. At practice the next morning, fans outside the practice arena reported they heard a voice repeatedly saying ‘who do you play for’……
