In period 2, Rantanen scores back-to-back PPG’s, and Kuznestov ties the game at 3 after that. Jagr takes the game by a 3-1 score. Frederick Andersen kept the Danes in the game as Jagr outchanced LA 27-8 and outshot them 43-28.

WEEKLY SUMMARY: 2 Home Games, 2 More Losses
Thunder Bay Nor’Westers
WEEKLY PREVIEW: Just a single home game this week against Bucks County. This should be a close game as both teams are playing well and appear to be evenly mathed.
Bucks County Raccoons @ Yellowknife Braves Thunder Bay jumps to the early lead 2-0 with goals by Landeskog(12th) and Andreas Johnsson(10th). Drew Doughty close the lead to 2-1 scoring his first of the season. At the end of the first period TB-2 and BCo-1 SOG BCo12/TBN/16

Brentwood Bandits
WEEKLY PREVIEW: The second place Bandits hope to try to gain some ground on Jagr as they have 3 less games played.

Two home games against Charlotte and Cincinnati.

Charlotte Buzzards @ Brentwood Bandits The Buzzards circle the Brentwood Civic Center hoping to pick apart the Bandits.

Tied 2-2 heading into the 3rd… Marchessault (11) and Tuch (6) with his 2nd of the night make it 4-2.

Bandits pull Murray and manage one goal by Kessel (7) but fall short as Charlotte wins 4-3.

Difference in this game was goaltending. Price made 37 saves and Murray only 21.

Cincinnati Inferno @ Brentwood Bandits Can the Inferno burn down the Civic Center? Or can the Bandits extinguish their chances?

Bandits get the 1st period’s only goal from Johnson (7).

Head to the 2nd, Frolik (4) ties it 1-1.

Still in the 2nd, Johnson gets his 2nd (8) to make it 2-1 Bandits.

Point (16) scores at the 15:38 mark to knot it at 2…

But, with 8 seconds left in regulation… Tavares scores his 15th of the season and sends the Bandits fans home happy!

Vasilevskiy gets the win saving 29 of 31, and Hellebuyck saves 27 of 30 in a losing cause.

WEEKLY SUMMARY: Two games, two points. About what we expected this season.
Charlotte Buzzards
WEEKLY PREVIEW: Charlotte was clinging to second place in the Atlantic division when the team hosted Yellowknife on December 7.
Yellowknife Braves @ Charlotte Buzzards Charlotte coughed up a 3-1 second period lead and a game winning goal from Yellowknife defenseman Derek Forbort with 2:12 in regulation put the Braves over the top 5-4. An Anthony Duclair goal with 5:39 left in the second brought the Braves to 3-2 and early third period goals from Yellowknife forwards Mikko Rantanen and Brendan Lemieux put the Braves ahead 4-3. Buzzards forward Jon Marcessault tied the game at 4 with a goal with 2:56 left to play in regulation but Charlotte could not get to overtime for the point as Forbort scored just 44 seconds later, assisted from Evgeni Malkin and Sebastian Aho.

Dougie Hamilton with two goals garnered the top star honors for the losing Charlotte squad.Aho (1 G, 3 pts and 17 FOW) and Rantanen (1 G 2 pts) took second and third stars respectively for Yellowknife. Marc-Andre Fleury saved 35 shots, one more than losing goalie Carey Price — which proved to be the ultimate difference in this game.

WEEKLY SUMMARY: Charlotte’s home woes continue: the Buzzards fall to 6-8 on their own ice and ownership is getting upset about sending its fans into the night more often than not on a losing note.
Bucks County Raccoons
WEEKLY PREVIEW: One home game against a tough Brentwood squad and a bonus road game versus the out of town Guentzel Gunners
Brentwood Bandits @ Bucks County Raccoons Timo Meir scores his 2nd goal of the game with 37 seconds left and the goalie pulled to tie the score, then capped off his night with the decisive shoot out goal to rally the Bucks County Raccoons over the Brentwood Bandits by a score of 3-2.
Bucks County Raccoons @ Guentzel Gunners Despite being out shot to the tune of 31-18, the Bucks County Raccoons had 2 PP goals enroute to a 4-2 victory over the Guntzel Gunners. The Gunners had 71 shot attempts and in a chippy game 7 of the 8 called penalties were of the roughing variety.
WEEKLY SUMMARY: 4 points in 2 games is the best you can do as solid goal tending continues to keep the Raccoons in virtually every game….
Bathgate Rangers
WEEKLY PREVIEW: Rangers have 3 home games this week – 2 against top tier teams and 1 against a lower tier team (like the Rangers) – hope we get something…..
Alamo Defenders @ Bathgate Rangers Alamo drops in Marchand scores a goal in the 2nd. But the Rangers score 1 in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd – and then a 4th in the final minute as Alamo tried to get back in to the game. Somehow the Rangers showed defense in this one – which in turn allowed Halak to be the games #1 star. But he EARNED it. Alamo attempted 85 shots – 46 of which got through to Halak and he stopped 45 of them. In fact, the Defenders almost doubled up the Rangers in SOG with 46 to 28, but the scoring chances were near even, 20-18 Alamo. Giroux, Hertl and Drouin (all newcomers for Bathgate) scored the 1st 3rd, and P.K. netted the empty netter. FINAL 4-1 Bathgate!!
STARS (ALL BRG)
1. Halak 45 saves
2. Giroux, 1 goal, 2 assists
3. Drouin 1 goal
Gilbert Sharks @ Bathgate Rangers Rangers hope to make it 2 in row as the Sharks enter the ROUND Garden. Gilbert has been struggling and the Rangers come out on the attack firing 20 SOG in the 1st and Hertl tallies on a PP goal late in the period. Gilbert took a slightly less proactive attack, but still managed 12 shots that Georgiev had to handle, he was successful all but once as Tkachuk put one by him for 1-1 1st perod.
Rangers kept up the offensive pace in the 2nd out shooting the Sharks 12-6, but again, both teams scored. This time is Gilbert with the PP goal – from Atkinson, while the Rangers scored late to again tie the game when McCann put one past Rask.
But as we enter the 3rd – Gilbert goes on the big offensive, getting 1 more shot in the 3rd period (19) than they managed in periods 1 and 2 combined (18). And 3 of them go in – the 3rd an EN variety. Domi, Englelland and Atkinson (his 2nd) are the goal scorers. AND on top of all that, the defense and Rask shut down the Rangers, even though they managed 14 more shots. 2nd game in a row where a team took 46 shots and LOST the game. FINAL: 5-2 Gilbert.
STARS (all GIL):
1. Atkinson 2 goals
2. Rask 44 saves
3. Engelland 1 goal, 1 assist
Thunder Bay NorWesters @ Bathgate Rangers Thunder Bay comes to town with a big lead in the Atlantic Division – the two teams met on November 11th in Thunder Bay with the NorWesters taking it 4-3. Rnagers hope to be able to keep up with them this time around. Well it takes a SHOOT-OUT to settle it, which makes the final 4-3 again.
FIRST PERIOD – Bathgate tries the offensive approach again, outshooting Thunder Bay 10-4 – but Connor is able to make one of those 4 shots count as he beats Georgiev for a 1-0 NorWesters lead. Meanwhile, Rinne (a fan favorite in the Round Garden), stops all 10 Rangers shots.
SECOND PERIOD – Again the Rangers dominate on offense with an 11-3 lead in shots on goal. But dominate was the big word here. NorWesters really didn’t amount much at all, Georgiez stopped ALL THREE (ok, that’s not a lot). And the Rangers were able to connect on 3 of their 11 shots – Hertl, Subban and Zibanejad – and the Rangers exit period 2 for the locker room with a 3-1 lead.
THIRD PERIOD – well, since we already know it goes to OT and shoot-out, we can all figure that Thunder Bay takes period 3, 2-0. And they do. ZBad gets whistled for cross-checking a minute and a half in and JUST as the penalty is expiring (they actually had to check the clock) Athanasiou puts it past Georgiev. 3 minutes later Muzzin scores to tie the game. Then we go about 18 1/2 minutes with no one scored (including the OT period). Thunder Bay worked hard in the 3rd to overcome their lackluster 2nd period, and out shot the Rangers 17-11. In the OT – the Rangers again dominated in offensive attacks with a 7-3 SOG lead, but Rinne and Georgiev were stopping everything.
SHOOT-OUT – Landeskog misses for TBN. ZBad – scores. Courtuier then scores for TBN, but Hertl scores for BGR. Then Barkov attempts to tie it, but Georgiev stones his wrist shot and the Rangers WIN the game, 4-3. WooHoo
STARS (All BGR – local news media)
1. ZBad – 1 goal, 1 assist (and a shoot-out score)
2. Hertl – 1 goal, 1 assist (and a shoot-out score)
3. Subban – 1 goal
Rinne stops 36 shots, but not enough to get a win – but the NorWesters 3rd period did earn them 1 point.
WEEKLY SUMMARY: Rangers win the 2 they thought the had the least chances in and loose the 1 they thought they had a good chance to win. Go figure, but we will take the 4 of 6 points. Fans had a good week.
Lafayette Homesteaders
WEEKLY PREVIEW: Lafayette takes on LA and Chicago
LA Great Danes @ Lafayette Homesteaders LAF 4 LA 3 OT

Lafayette pulls it out in OT on a Kucherov goal

Chicago Cosa Nostra @ Lafayette Homesteaders Lafayette DOMINATES play outshooting Chicago 54-22
and
um
gets crushed 7-4
and Mrazek makes 50 saves and no stars!!!!!!!!!!!!!
WEEKLY SUMMARY: 1-1 seems like a trend !!!
Cincinnati Inferno
WEEKLY PREVIEW: Cincinnati welcomes first-place Bucks County and Bathgate this week.
Bucks County Raccoons @ Cincinnati Inferno Cincinnati 6, Bucks County 3

The Raccoons out-attempt the Inferno, 79-40, in shots–but 24 blocks and a 38 save effort by Connor Hellebuyck set up the win. Brayden Point delivered a goal and two assists for Cincinnati.

Bathgate Rangers @ Cincinnati Inferno Cincinnati 5, Bathgate 1

The Inferno got a hat trick from Brayden Point and went a season-best three for five on the power play. Nico Hischier got the lone goal for the Rangers.

WEEKLY SUMMARY: Cincinnati gets a sweep for the week. Four points at home gets the locals excited for next week.
Toledo Walleye
WEEKLY PREVIEW: LA and Charlotte come to the Huntington Center to test the Walleye. More changes in lines and strategy await to see if things turn around.
Charlotte Buzzards @ Toledo Walleye Toledo 7, Charlotte 5 – It took 7 minutes for the scoring to start, but once it did, the pace was more than anything ever seen in Toledo. The Walleye scored 6 unanswered goals in 8 minutes, knocking Carey Price out of the net, and giving the Walleye a comfy 6 goal lead. All the goals even strength, with Rodrigues, Pettersson twice, van Riemsdyk twice and Backstrom guilty of the carnage. As the fans sit down and relax, Smith tallies for the visitors and the game goes to intermission 6-1.

The rest of the game is controlled by the Buzzards, as they out shoot the Walleye 38-18 and make what appeared to be a laugher into a pucker fest. In the 2nd, two goals Tarasenko and Pavelski are answered by Vanek. The 2nd period ends 7-3 Walleye.

The Buzzards add 2 more with Tarasenko and Lee before 10 minutes are gone, and the crowd is getting very uneasy. Where is the defense? Binnington stands tall the rest of the way, no more goals, and even though he allows 5, he also ends up with 42 saves.

Final score 7-5 Walleye.

1st star – van Riemsdyk 2G
2nd = Pettersson 2G
3rd – Tarasenko 2G

LA Great Danes @ Toledo Walleye Toledo 9, LA 6 – Another game to raise the question, “Where’s the defense?”

Toledo opens the barrage with 4 goals. Dadonov, Pettersson twice and Severson, to make it 4-0 with 15 minutes gone in the 1st. Then the visitors tee it up for some fun. 3 straight goals. 2 in the first by Benn and Mete. Then Thornton in the 2nd, and the game is up for grabs again at 4-3 Toledo. The tide turns to the home team, and Vanek scores, Krejci scores, and we go to intermission at 6-3 Toledo.

From a competitive standpoint, the last period does not make the game more exciting, as the lead never drop below 3, but in the process, 6 more goals get piled on. van Riemsdyk joins the party, and Vanek adds 2 more to complere his hat trick. For LA, Pietrangelo adds 2, and Heiskanen one more, and the final is 9-6 Toledo. No goalies left this game feeling very good.

1st star – Vanek 3G hattrick
2nd – Pettersson 2G, 4pts
3rd – Dadonov 1G, 5pts

WEEKLY SUMMARY: 15 goals means the offense is back like never before. Vanek and van Riemsdyk have found their shooting eye. Now to find some defense. Stay tuned.
California Regulators
Brentwood Bandits @ California Regulators The second place Bandits visit California and take home the W in a close 3-2 match.
Guentzel Gunners @ California Regulators The Gunners are up next, but this time the home town Regulators find the net early and often, taking the W 6-2.
WEEKLY SUMMARY: California splits two games at home this week.
