BONUS BABIES

Bonus Babies were introduced into the Mid-West Baseball League during the  2019 Proposals time by Dave Myers of the Tijuana Bottle Rockets.   After passing the Veterans Committee the rule change was adopted by the league by a 22-6 vote & became part of the Mid-West Baseball League for the 2021 Draft.

Rules are as follows for Bonus Babies.

During the Draft (Starting in 2021) MWBL Franchise Owners will have the right to designate one (1) minor league Un-Carded Player as their “Bonus Baby” at the time of selection.

• Bonus Babies will be given a 4 Year Minor League contract.
• Bonus Babies may not be traded as a Minor League / Un-Carded Player.
• Franchises may only have one (1) Bonus Baby on their roster at any time.

This spot is occupied for four (4) years, or until they become a Carded player.

Once again the Bonus Baby label must be given to the player as he is drafted as an Un-Carded Player.

Any Franchise that leaves the league the new owner has the option to keep the “Bonus Baby” contract, revert to a three (3) year Un-Carded Minor League Prospect or cut the Bonus Baby player altogether.
