In an AL East battle, Bethesda and Fremont split the first 3, but
the Cannons take the rubber match 2-1. Scripts attached. Game 1: Fremont starts out well with Roy Oswalt's debut, allowing just one hit through the first 8 innings. Fremont's offense pounds out 14 hits in the 6-3 victory. W: Oswalt 1-0 L: Myers 0-1 S: Venters 1 HR: Elyria- none; Fremont- Barajas (1) Game 2: The Bethesda Bandicoots bats came back with a vengeance against a bad Billingsley. John Mayberry's grand slam gave Bethesda enough cushion for an 11-6 victory. W: M. Lowe 1-0 L: Billingsley 0-2 S: Hagadone 1 HR: Elyria- Mayberry (2). Fremont- Colvin (1) Game 3: Having emptied out the bullpen after Billingsley's short outing an game 2, the Cannons needed a good start from Ricky Nolasco. They didn't get one. Nolasco had to stay in and take a pounding, giving up 14 runs and 25 hits in the 14-6 Bethesda win. W: Schwinden 1-0 L: Nolasco 0-2 HR: Elyria- Jay (1), Mayberry (3), C. Davis 2 (2); Fremont- DeJesus (1) Game 4: It's a good thing Fremont rested the bullpen, because this one went 15 innings. Johnny Venters had a disastrous ninth, allowing 2 runs in a blown save, but both bulpens held until Rod Barajas hit a walk-off 2-run homer in the 15th. The catchers got planty of action, as there were 5 SB and 5 CS in the game. Bethesda committed 4 errors in the game. W: Loe 1-0 L: C. Martinez 0-1 BS: Venters 1 HR: Elyria- none; Fremont- Barajas (2), C. Peguero (1) Game 5: Both teams got good starting pitching after emptying the bullpens for the 15-inning affair in game 4, and Fremont edged out 5-4. W: Detwiler 2-1 L: Hochevar 1-2 S: Strop 1 HR: Elyria- Mayberry (4), Towles (1); Fremont- Swisher (3) Game 6: The Bethesda Bandicoots bounce back by beating the home-town boys 5-2. Tony Cruz takes an Oswalt fastball in the ribs and is knocked out for 34 days. W: Myers 1-1 L: Oswalt 1-1 S: Storen 1 HR: Elyria- none; Fremont- Colvin (2) Game 7: The rubber match was a tightly contested affair, with both starters going the distance. Fremont toook the lead 1-0 in the seventh with a Logan Morrison HR, but in the eighth Michael Brantley tripled home Brandon Laird to tie it. In the ninth, Logan Morrison homered again to walk-off the Cannons victory 2-1. W: Billingley 1-2 L: Cobb 0-2 HR: Elyria- none; Fremont- Morrison 2 (2) Next up, Fremont hosts West division hopeful Coconut Creek, while Bethesda hosts East division contender Pittsburgh. |

The Crushers head north of the border for a 7 game series. Gm 1) The Crushers get HR's from Cruz (1) & Uggla (1) and make Vogelsong (1-1) a winner for the first time. CCC 7-3 Gm 2) Reynolds doubles, HR's (3) and drives in 3 to back Garzas (1-0) first win. CCC 6-5 Gm 3) Ivan Nova (2-0) goes 7+ strong, and Y. Navarro drives in 2 in support. YSS 7-1 Gm 4) Marcum (1-1) picks up win # 1, and Reynolds HR's (4) and drives in 2. CCC 6-4 Gm 5) Hart (2), Uggla (2) & Soto (2) all HR to pace CCC and Kuroda (1-1) picks up first win. CCC 6-1 Gm 6) Shields (1-2) went the distance and gave up 1 hit...a Reynolds solo HR (5). YSS 4-1 Gm 7) Garza (2-0) went the distance. Howard (1) & Reynolds (6) homered. CCC 6-1. Coconut Creek was led by Reynolds who went 12-26, with a double, 4 HR, and 7 RBI. Yonge Street committed 13 errors and was thoroughly unimpressive. As a reward...they sit and wait for TIJ to visit next week. CCC heads to FRE. |

The Southbend Lynx find themselves in first place atop the AL West for
the first in their brief history. I realize it won't last long, but it sure is fun right now. Quite an exciting series where Southbend got its fair share of breaks. Its going to be fun to see how long the ride will last. On to the games. Severn @ Southbend Game 1 Severn jumps out early in the 2nd when Raburn 1bs, Sanchez 1bs, Byrd 2-run 2b, and Werth rbi-1b. Barmes gets one back with a solo-HR in the bottom half, his 1st of the season. Southbend then opens up on Gallardo in the 4th after 2 are out, Huff 1bs, Ludwick 1bs, Moustakas rbi-1b, Rivera rbi-1b, and Crisp 3-run HR make it 6-3 SBL. The Lynx add another in the 5th when Joyce 2bs and a Huff rbi-1b. SB closes the scoring in the 6th when Rivera 2bs and eventually scores on a Lowrie rbi-1b. Holland goes 6, and Marmol and Hensley close out the game for a Lynx win. SBL 8, SE 3. Game 2 Severn comes out swinging with a run in the 2nd when Pagan 1bs, steals 2nd, and scores on Rodriguez rbi-1b. In the 3rd Severn adds another when Cabrera bbs, Lowrie then misplays a pop up and Cabrera scores all the way from 1st. Southbend ties the game in the 4th on back-to-back solo HRs by Joyce and Wigginton. In the SBL 5th Moustakas hits his 1st HR as a Lynx for a 3-2 SBL lead. Severn comes right back in the 6th and takes the lead when Werth 1bs, Lowrie boots Pagan’s grounder, Pagan steals 2nd, and Lowrie then boots Rodriguez grounder as Werth and Pagan score. In the SBL 6th Wigginton 2bs, and Lowrie rbi-1b makes up for one of the runs he let score and ties the game at 4-4. Both teams trade a scoreless 7th and 8th and Motte pitches through a shaky 9th getting Holliday on a 6-6-3 DP to end the inning with runners on 1st and 3rd. The Lynx Wigginton then belts a solo-HR for the game winner in the bottom of the 9th. SBL 5, SE 4. Game 3 This game was the J. Litsch show for 8 innings as he only allowed 1 hit, K’d 8 and was dominant. Severn got their runs in the 2nd on a Wood throwing error, and in the 7th on a Hernandez solo-HR. In the bottom of the 9th Downs got Altuve 6-3, then Crisp bbs, steals 2nd, Peterson Ks, but Morse rips an rbi-2b to cut the lead to 1, Joyce then coaxes a bb bringing up Wigginton the Game 2 hero. Benoit is called on and he gets Wiggington to P2 to end the game. SE 2, SBL 1. Game 4 SB gets on the board in the 2nd when with 2 outs Moustakas 1bs, Cedeno rips and rbi-3b, and Jaso follows with an rbi-2b. SBL Harden looked good through 4 innings but Severn got to him in the 5th when Rodriguez 2bs, Weeks INF-1b, Scutaro rbi-groundout, Cabrera bbs, and Holliday connects for a 3-run HR for a 4-2 Severn lead. Again the SBL get a 2 out rally in the 5th when Peterson is HBP (injured for 13 days), and Morse follows with a 2-run HR, his first of the season to tie the game 4-4. In the SBL 6th Wigginton leads off with a 2b, Lowrie 1bs, 1 out later Cedeno 2-run 2b gives the SBL a 6-4 lead. On the mound side the SBL Harden got through the 6th and gave way to Putz for 1.2 innings and Motte comes on in the 8 to try and close out the game. Severn did not go down easily as Rodriguez 2bs and Scutaro 2b’s him home with 2 out. But Motte bears down and Ks Konerko to end the game. SBL 6, SE 5. Game 5 Southbend gets one to start the scoring in the 3rd when Ludwick 2bs, moves to 3rd on a groundout, and scores on a Hudson wild pitch. In the Severn 4th Cabrera 1bs, Holliday bbs, Rodriguez rips an rbi-2b, Raburn sac fly, and a Sanchez rbi-1b give Severn a 3-1 lead. In the Severn 5th Cabrera 2bs and Harrison loses his control as he walks Holliday, Rodriguez, and Hernandez to force in another run. SB gets one back in the bottom half when Ludwick bbs and Rivera hits an rbi-2b. In the Severn 8th Weeks bbs, steals 2nd, and with 2 outs Werth rbi-1b makes it 5-2 Severn. The SBL keep the heat on with 2 in the bottom half when Moustakas 1b chases Hudson, Hawkins comes on for Severn, Scutaro’s throwing error on PH Gomes grounder, and a Crisp 2-run 2b. But that was as close as SB got as Downs comes on to pitch a 1-2-3 9th for the save. SE 5, SBL 4. Game 6 Severn gets a run in the 2nd when Holliday 2bs and eventually scores on a Hernandez sac fly. That was all that Severn could manage off SBL Holland as he spreads 6 hits over 8 innings while fanning 7. Putz comes on in the 9th for his 1st save of the season. SBL tied it in the 5th on a Joyce solo-HR and took the lead in the 7th with a 3 run inning. The big hit was a bases loaded 2-run 1b by Altuve. SBL 4, SE 1. Game 7 SBL Arrieta dodges the bullet several times through 5 innings as he walked 8, but the DP ball was his friend and the Severn hitters just couldn’t get the big hit to break the game open. SB gets 2 in the 5th when Ludwick bbs, Gomes rbi-2b, and a Scutaro throwing error on Schneider’s grounder plates Gomes. Severn gets to Arrieta in the 6th when Holliday 1bs and McCann swats a 2-run HR. SB goes to the pen and a combination of Pestano, Putz, Motte, and Marmol close down Severn the rest of the way. Halladay matches the Lynx pen through 9 but is lifted for Downs in the 10th. In the SB 10th Ludwick leads off with a 2b, Gomes grounder moves him to 3rd, Wood is IW, Altuve is brought on to PR for Ludwick, and PH Crisp wins the game with a deep rbi-1b to center. Drew Stubbs gives Dallas an early lead with 3-run homer in 2nd and Dobbs seals it with 2-run single in the 7th. Gm.2 DAL 7-1 Wakefield and 3 relievers hold VIR to 6 hits and 1 run. Bonifacio is 2-5 with 3 RBI to lead a 12 hit attack. Gm.3 VIR 5-4 Leading 4-2 in the 9th, Virginia's G.Mota gives up 2 runs to create a 4 all tie. A.Ramirez quickly breaks it with a game winningg RBI single in the bottom of the 9th. Gm.4 DAL 12-4 14 hits and 12 runs made an easy winner of J.Lannan. Bonifacio 3 hits, 3 runs, 3 RBI. Rivera 3 hits, a homer, 3 RBI. Doumit 2 hits, a homer, 3 RBI. Gm.5 VIR 8-0 T.Cahill runs his record to 3-0 with a 1 hit shutout while striking out 14 batters. Everyone for VIR contributes to the 16 hit attach which includes homers by Markakis, A.Ramirez, and Santana. Gm.6 VIR 7-3 Staying hot, the Sluggers use 14 hits to give Scherzer his first win and VIR the split of the series. A.Ramirez 3-4, a homer and 4 RBI. With the split VIR crawls to 6-7 and heads to Severn for the next series. |

- Sacramento sweeps— 5-0 One rainout to be rescheduled. Game 1: SAC 10-3 WP=Wolf LP= Burnett LUMBER!!!! 17 hits by Sacramento. Cano gets 5 RBI’s, including 3 run homer Also HR’s for Pujols and Youkilis Sacramento scores in 7 out of 9 innings. Wolf holds Manhattan to 3 runs, bullpen holds Manhattan scoreless. Game 2: SAC 3-0 WP=Verlander LP=Porcello SV=Escalona PITCHING!!!! Verlander pitches a shutout into the 8th, 2 hits, 11 K’s, and 2 BB’s. Porcello gets a quality start, yielding 3 runs in 7 innings, and Manhattan’s bullpen does not yield a run. All Sacramento’s runs scored one at a time in 3 different innings—RBI’s by Roberts, Hardy and a sac fly by Hunter. Game 3: Rainout—rescheduled later Game 4: Sac 6-2 WP=Lewis LP=Worley No scoring until the 5th when Colby Lewis gets a 2 out hit to score Molina, then Morgan follows with 2 more RBI’s. Sac 3-0 Then in the 7th, Youkilis slams a 3 run homer. Sac 6-0 Manhattan finally scores with Worley bunting in a suicide squeeze to score Drew, then Hill scoring Worley with a double. Sac 6-2 Game 5: Sac 10-3 WP=Lee LP=Blackburn Early slugfest, Sacramento scores 7 runs in the first two innings. Youkilis and Pujols homer in successive at bats. Youkilis gets hit by pitch twice in same game, reaches bases every plate appearance. Game 6: Sac 17-0 WP=Verlander LP=Simon Verlander pitches a 1 hit shutout with 12 K’s. slight improvement for the Nor'easters as they manage to win 3 of 7
games from Owensboro. After losing 4 of the first five games Jersey
manages to win the last 2 games to salvage some respectability.
Highlights from the series for the Onslaught included 4 homers from
Mike Napoli, 3 coming in 3 consecutive at bats in game one. Napoli
now has 7 homers in 13 games for Owensboro. Cole Hamels and Randy
Wells each threw complete games wins for the Onslaught with Wells
throwing a shutout to boot. Jersey highlights included solid overall pitching with Carl Pavano throwing a complete game win raising his record to 2-0 for the season. Owensboro averaged less than 3 runs per game but still won the series 4-3. Jersey's offense is a far cry from last year when they won 100 games. |

in Valdosta and are over .500!! Not for long though... Game 1: Valdosta 1-0. Pitcher of the week candidate Carlos Zamrano pitched 8 shutout innings and Craig Kimbrell picked up his 4th save. Game 2: Long Beach 10-0. Clay Bucholz went 6 strong IP and the Dirt Bags had 3 guys with 2 RBI's each. Game 3: Long Beach 9-3. Parra and Espinosa each knocked in 3 as the Dirt Bags cruise. Game 4: Valdosta 8-6. Ubaldo Jimenez dropped to 0-3 after allowing 7 runs in 5 IP. Kimbrell collected save # 5. Game 5: Valdosta 2-0. Livan Hernandez made it into the 8th before running out of gas. The old man improved to 2-1 and Kimbrell with save #6. Game 6: Valdosta 7-3. Zamrano improved to 3-0 with an 8 inning 13 K performance. |
