Phillips (15) Game 2: Fremont takes the early 4-0 lead, but Oswalt gets roughed up in the seventh as the Crushers get 6 runs. Chuck James gives the game right back in the bottom of the frame, as the Cannons score 3 to take it 7-6. W: Neshek (2-3) L: James (9-7) S: Ryan (30) HR: CCC- Doumit (2); FRE- Helms (11), B. Phillips (16) Game 3: Three runs in the eighth doom the Cannons, as CCC wins their first game of the series, 7-4. Rookie Anibal Sanchez wins his tenth. W: Sanchez (10-4) L: Radke (9-12) S: Putz (35) HR: CCC- Atkins (32), Ethier (10); FRE- none Game 4: Another tight one. Down 3-1 in the ninth, Frmont scores one, but Jason Lane guns down Josh Fields at the plate for the final out to preserve the Crushers win. Longtime Cannon Jamie Moyer picks up the win. W: Moyer (11-10) L: Lilly (11-12) S: Putz (36) HR: none Game 5: Fremont scored once in each of the first three innings, and John Smoltz was cruising along until the sixth, when he walked off the mound holding his wrist. X-rays were negative, and Smoltz is not expected to miss a start. The bullpen held the rest of the way, and Fremont wins this one 3-1. W: Smoltz (12-12) L: E. Santana (15-6) S: Ryan (31) HR: none Game 6: A close game early, Fremont scores 5 in the middle innings to take the final game of the series 8-2. Three Crusher errors led to 4 unearned runs. W: J. Cruz (4-4) L: Meche (12-6) HR: CCC-none, C. Ross (10) Fremont takes the series 4-2. Series notes: -Ryan Howard just didn't get it done for Coconut Creek, going 2-23 with 2 BB, 1 RBI, 9 K , 12 LOB and 1 E. - Juan Pierre set the Fremont single-season record for SB in this series. He now has 52, passing Chuck Knoblauch's 50 from 2002. Fremont retakes the lead in the East by 1 game, with next week bringing a showdown on the road with Canton. Coconut Creek hosts AL West-leading Severn. |

Canton comes to the Windy City and takes two of six. Game #1 All Canton behind the masterful pitching of Jake Westbrook who improves to 17-9 3.60 ERA. Game #2 Chicago scores 3 in the 9th behind an Andruw Jones HR to beat the Indians 5-2. Game #3 Casey Jassen beats the Mobsters in a 4-3 final. Game #4 C.C. Sabathia comes within 2 – outs of a No-Hitter and beats the Indians 5-0 as Sabathia improves to 19-4 3.21 ERA. Game #5 Fausto Carmona hits Andruw Jones, and Yorvit Torrealba before getting tossed. Torrealba is out for 13 days and Jones just one. Joel Zumaya picks up the win, and Billy Wagner his league leading 39th Save. 5-4 Score for the Mobsters. Game #6 Another 5-4 Mobsters victory. A lead-off single by Ray Durham, and a walk to Derek Jeter with no outs in the 9th put runners on 1st and 2nd. A double steal sets up Ryan Zimmerman who walks to load the bases. Barry Bonds steps in and laces a single down the right field line to score Durham and give the Mobsters the win, and the series 4 games to 2. |

In a series faturing last place teams New River visits Toad Hollow. Game 1: Mark Hendrickson outduels Curt Schilling and pitches a 7 hit shutout as Toad Hollow wins 3-0. Reggie Abercrombie has 2 RBIs. Game 2: In another pitcher's duel Kevin Millwood pitches a 4 hitter and strikes out 10 in winning 3-0. Mark Loretta went 4-4 with a run and an RBI. Game 3: In a battle of struggling pitchers Vicente Padilla (4-14) opposes Esteban Loaiza (4-16). Mark Sweeney had 2 2-run 2Bs to give Toad Hollow a 4-0 lead in the 3rd. New River scored on a WP and an error to pull within 4-3. The Toad Hollow bullpen pitched 3 no-hit innings to preserve the victory. Isringhausen picked up his 15th save. Game 4: Behind a Conine 3-run HR and a Betemit solo shot, New River takes a 6-1 lead. Toad Hollow scratches back with runs in the 7th and 8th and brings the tying run to the plate in the 9th. Luis Gonzalez singled in Troy Tulowitzki to make the score 6-5 but Scott Cassidy struck out Jason Kubel to end the game. Game 5: A great pitchers duel between Brett Tomko and Dan Haren. The score was 1-1 until Aaron Hill singled in Mark Sweeney in the 7th. New River tied it in the 8th when Corey Hart doubled in Alexis Gomez. It stayed 2-2 until Mike Jacobs hit a 2-run HR in the 11th to give New River the 4-2 victory. Game 6: Toad Hollow scored 4 in the 1st capped by a 2-run 1B by Julio Lugo. They added 2 more in the 4th and coasted to a 6-1 win and a spilt of the series. Mark Hendrickson pitched his second strong game in the series giving up 7 hits and 1 run over 8 innings. Luis Gonzalez and Aaron Hill contributed 3 hits each. |
