Severn comes to Virginia and the two teams go at it. Severn leaves with a 3-3 split. Gm.1 SEV 5-4 Brandon Webb hangs on to run his record to 13-1. Holliday 3-5 for Express. Thome 2-4 with 2 runs for VIR. Gm.2 VIR 22-11 A slugfest. VIR with 18 hits, SEV with 17. Broxton takes the lumps for SEV going 4.1 allowing 17 runs on 12 hits. Thome has a monster game going 4-6 with 4 runs and 7 RBI with 3 home runs. Vlady adds his two cents worth with a 3-6 day, 3 runs and 6 RBI and 2 home runs. Laird's 3-4, 4 RBI day seems like a throw-in. SEV's McCann shines with 4-5, 3 RBI stats. M. Cabrera goes yard in a 2-5 effort. Gm.3 SEV 6-4 Pat Burrell caps a 5-run 1st with a 2-run blast off Pettitte and adds a solo shot in the 4th to lead the Express. Rivera nails his 19th save. Thome continues his hot hitting for VIR...2-3, 3 RBI, Home run. Gm.4 VIR 8-4 Freedy Garcia improves to 11-5. Olivo's 3-run Jack in the 5th is the go-ahead for VIR. A. Ramirez and B. Anderson also go deep for VIR. Thome 1-4. M. Cabrera and Holliday go 2-4 with homers and 2 RBI each for the Express. Gm.5 SEV 7-2 Carlos Zambrano shuts out VIR for 8 2/3. Morneau collects 4 hits and 4 RBI. Holliday hits a 2-run homer among his 2 hits and scores 3 runs. M Cabrera has 3 hits and 3 runs for SEV. Thome goes hitless for VIR. Gm.6 VIR 3-2 Gerald Laird's 4th hit of the game knocks in the winning run in the 12th. Thome hitless again. Garden City @ Tempe - Tempe and
Garden City split the series. It probably should have been 4-2 but Tempe stranded 13 runners for a 1-0 loss in game 4. Ian Snell allowed 14 base runners but no runs in 7.2 inn. Zack Duke kept Tempe off the scoreboard in the final game and picked up the series split. Player usage rules and Jorge Sosa’s hot 2007 forced Tempe to give him the ball in game 6. He only gave up 4 hits but he took loss. |
