1980 LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES

Baton Rouge wins game one 5-2.
Quebec City wins game two 6-1.

Quebec City wins game three to take a 2-1 series lead.
Baton Rouge scores 2 runs in the top of the 9th in game 4 and wins 2-1 to even the series 2-2.
Baton rouge wins game 5 to go back home only needing 1 win to move on to the series.

Quebec City wins game six 2-1.
Baton Rouge wins game seven 6-2.
Baton Rouge wins the series 4-3.

 

 

Hollywood vs. Germantown –

The Hollywood Vampires come to Germantown to play the first of the League Championship series. The Vampires will be sending RHP Moose Haas to the mound. He was 12-10 on the year with a 2.40 ERA. The Grays will counter with ace and RHP Britt Burns. He won two in the division series and went 19-8 with a 2.37 ERA on the season. Germantown holds the advantage on the season series at 17-11. At game time it is mostly sunny and 51 degrees.

Game 1. The Grays strike first in the 1st as Cruz drew a walk, advanced on a Hassey ground out and scored on a Cooper bloop to right. The Vampires respond in their next at bat. Templeton singled to lead off, and advanced on a Youngblood ground out. Haas later stoked a 2-out single to bring home Templeton, tie game. The Vampires add a couple more in the 3rd. Walling leadoff with a single and Murray went deep to right, Vampires 3-1. This time the Grays respond in their next at bat. Cruz leadoff with a double and Cooper brought him home with a single to right. Then in the 4th the Vampires nemesis Page lead off with a solo shot, tie game. Haas must have been shook up on the Page blast as DeCinces and Garner followed with singles and Burns added a little magic himself by stroking a double to score DeCinces, Grays 4-3. The Vampires start a little rally in the 7th. Walling stroked a single his third hit of the day and Murphy doubled to move Walling to third. Murray brought in the run with an infield grounder, tie game. The Grays counter by PH for Stein in the bottom half and Harrelson blooped a single. PR Otis came in a immediately stole second and went on to third on a throwing error. Otis on third 0-out and Cruz grounds one to Templeton who throws home and safe, Moore drops the ball and the Grays retake the lead, 5-4. In the top of the 8th Caudill walks the first two batters, Moore and Guerrero. Vampires bring in Heep to hit for Haas. The Grays go to their closer, Burgmeier, early. The Vampires switch PH to Sadek. Burgmeier proceeds to get Sadek, Henderson and Walling to hit it in the air. Grays Dawson drew a walk to start the bottom of the 8th and Yount followed with a triple that he failed stretching into a inside the park HR, Grays 6-4. Burgmeier closed the 9th. Final Grays 6 Hollywood 4.

Game 2. For game 2 Hollywood sends LHP Gary Lucas (15-6, 2.63) and Germantown RHP Jim Bibby (13-7, 2.89) to the mound. In the 2nd Yount singled, advanced on a Garner ground out, advanced to third on an Otis infield hit and scored when Porter lifted a SF to Murphy in right, 1-0. Grays add an insurance run in the 6th. Dawson double and Yount’s RBI single to right brought him home, 2-0. Yount later stole second with 2-out and Otis singled to left scoring Yount. The Vampires are not down yet as Murray, Templeton and Youngblood single to start the 7th and fill the bases chasing Bibby. Moore FC’ed to third to bring home Murray, 3-1. Guerrero popped out and PH Sadek flew to center. With a 2-run deficit Templeton leads off the 9th with a triple and scores two batters later on a Moore single, 3-2. Guerrero grounded into a force to make it 2-out runner on first trailing 3-2 in the 9th. PH Heep flew to center as Burgmeier goes one and a third to close it. Final Grays 3 Vampires 2.

After two games that could of went either way, the teams will jaunt cross country to Hollywood for a set.

Hollywood-Germantown game 3

Germantown has dominated Hollywood thru the year,

Game 3: Cecil Cooper gets the Grays out to a 1-0 lead when he doubles home Cruz. Dawson follows with a double to make it 2-0. Yount singles home Cooper to make it 3-0 Grays. Dawon makes it 5-0 with a 2-run HR in the 5th and the Grays are on their way to a 3-0 series lead. Germantown goes on to rout Hollywood 9-1.

Game 4: Hollywood shakes up the lineup to see if they can get something started. Hollywood’s nemesis Cooper doubles home 2 in the second to take a 2-0 lead. Hollywood cuts the lead in half when Murphy singles home Whitson, who walked to lead off the inning. Then in the 9th, Yount doubles to lead off the inning and scores on a Decinces single with the infield drawn in. The Grays head to the bottom of the 9th down 3-1. Caudill strikes out the first 2 batters he faces in the 9th, then Henderson doubles to bring the tying run to the plate in Eddie Murray. Murray responds like the rest of the Hollywood offense has all series and pops it up to end the game and series.

Germantown sweeps Hollywood 4-0
