MESSERSMITH TOSSES HOLLYWOOD’S 1ST NO-HITTER

Andy Messersmith pitched a gem of a game for the Hollywood Vampires September 24, during a division rival game against Chesterfield.  Messersmith’s no-hitter helped Hollywood end the season on a high note.  They went from not expected to do much, to playing over their heads with their eyes on the division crown, to running out of gas in September. Messersmith struck out only 5 batters and allowed just three hitters to reach base; one walk, one hit-batter and an error. Bats from both sides were very quiet, as the game was a low scoring affair (3-0). Not only did Messersmith do it with the arm, he chipped in with the bat.  With the game scoreless, Mota leads off with a single and ends up scoring on a Messersmith groundout.  That proved to be all that he needed.
