1984 PROPOSALS

PROPOSAL #1 – BEST TWO WILD CARDS – PROPOSAL PASSED 14 – 6 .

Instead of the 1st and 2nd place teams in each division making the playoffs, I suggest the 2 division winners and the next 2 best records, regardless of their division, make the playoffs.

Reason for the Proposal:  There have been times where a 3rd place team in one division has a better record than the 2nd place team in the other division. It’s unfair that the team with the better record is left out of the playoffs simply because it plays in a more competitive division.

PROPOSAL #2 – ELIMINATE DIVISIONS – PROPOSAL FAILED 15 – 5 .

Elimination of the divisions and just keep it at 2, ten team leagues.

Reason for the Proposal:  Still keep the 162 game schedule, however you now have the top 4 teams make the playoffs.
I think it would be the fairest way to select 4 playoff teams, because each team would play the other 9 teams, 18 times during the regular season. The current format can sometimes “discriminate” against a better team in a “stronger” division.  In the current format if you are in a “strong” division you have to play the better teams more often than teams would in, say, a weaker division would have to play.

PROPOSAL #3 – ALLOW TRADES BEFORE CUTS – PROPOSAL FAILED 12 – 8 .

Reason for the Proposal:
Right after the World series ends, and after Free Agents are release – up until a week before the final cut deadline, trades would still be allowed.
If you have to cut down to a certain roster size being able to trade players, who may still have value, you receive some compensation instead of just losing him/them.
The trade deadline can then be placed right after the final cut to roster limits.
Trading can then resume once the Final Cut downs have been made.

PROPOSAL #4 – INCREASE STEALS – PROPOSAL PASSED 18 – 2 .

Steals Allowance Raised to 120% of SB+CS.

Reason for the Proposal:  Easier to track than 115% and makes it consistent with MWBL so I don’t have to change a ton of settings each week
