Hampton Huskies @ Long Beach Titans

Series Summary: Long Beach takes 5 of 6 from Hampton.

Flossmoor Flying Squirrels @ Castle Rock Hounds

Series Preview: The Flying Squirrels visit the Hounds in a battle of really strong AL teams. Should be a fun series.
Game #1: Flossmoor’s ace, Greg Maddux is on the mound to start the series. Coming in with a record of 15-6, he is a force to be reckoned with. Meanwhile, Brian Bohannon (9), is on the bump for Castle Rock, and he sports a 7-3 record. It was all Bohanon and the Hounds against the HOFer Maddux, as Bohanon goes the distance in a 4-0 shutout. The biggest hit for Castle Rock was a 2-run homer from the #9 hitter, Mike Sweeney, which made it 3-0 in the 5th. The final is 4-0, Castle Rock.

WP: Bohanon (8-3)
LP: Maddux (16-6)

Game #2: It’s another pitching mismatch in favor of Flossmoor, as David Cone (17) takes the mound vs. Jason Dickson (7) for Castle Rock. Flossmoor finally breaks into the scoring column, as Bagwell hits a two-run homer and they take a 3-0 lead in the 3rd. Castle Rock stays in it though, adding a run in the 3rd and the 5th. It is still 3-2 in the 7th when in an odd move, the manager brings in Neagle to relieve Cone. Flossmoor extends the lead in the 7th, but Neagle stays on the mound despite the lead. Flossmoor wins but has used one of their better starters in relief. However, this is Neagle’s third save, so it’s not the first time this has happened, apparently. The Final is 5-2, Flossmoor.

WP: Cone (13-2)
LP: Dickson (6-7)
S: Neagle (3)

Game #3: Neagle can’t go for Flossmoor, so Jimmy Key is pressed into action. Not a bad alternative. Mark Clark on the mound for Castle Rock. It is all Jimmy Key in this one. He tosses a complete game 3-hitter and Flossmoor does enough offensively to take a 5-0 victory. Ron Gant had a solo homer and Jose Cruz got 2 hits.

WP: Key (10-8)
LP: Clark (10-3)

Game #4: n relief, this time Ashby. They finally bring in a reliever, Mahay, with two outs in the 8th. The final is 9-2, Castle Rock. Easley is the hero with 4 RBI, and Luis Gonzalez adds 3 RBI.

WP: Hermanson (8-9)
LP: Neagle (14-4)
S: Mike James (1)(it was close when he came on)

Game #5: Ashby was supposed to start this one but was used in relief, so Holtz gets the nod for Flossmoor. He will face Castle Rock’s ace, Pettitte. The Flying Squirrels are really hitting Pettitte hard from the start, putting together 10 hits through five innings, and they have a 3-0 lead. But Bonds delivers a bases-loaded single to cut the lead to 3-2 after five. But, Flossmoor gets two more runs off of Dreifort in the 8th to take a 5-2 lead. And, that’s all she wrote, 5-2 final for Flossmoor, and they are guaranteed at least a split. They managed to get 15 hits off of the Hounds’ best pitchers.

WP: Mike Holtz (2-1)
LP: Pettitte (15-4)
S: Mahay (6)

Game #6: Bohanon can’t go for Castle Rock after throwing a CG in Game 1, so it is Dickson on short rest vs. Maddux. Not a good sign for the Hounds as they try to salvage a series tie. Flossmoor takes advantage of a Castle Rock error to take a 1-0 lead in the 3rd. But, Dale Sveum hits a two-run homer to take a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the 4th. Amazingly, that would be all the scoring, as Dickson goes the full game, not allowing an earned run. The final is 2-1, Castle Rock, and we have a series split.

WP: Dickson (7-7)
LP: Maddux (16-7)

Series Summary: Flossmoor and Castle Rock split the series. In an improbable twist, the Hounds beat Greg Maddux twice. In those two games, Brian Bohanon and Jason Dickson gave up 0 earned runs in 18 IP!

Santa Rosa Beach Bums @ Blarney Drive Bandits

Series Preview: A couple of teams going nowhere meet for a six-game set.
Game #1: 3 Grade starter Clark was too much as he tosses 7 shutout innings. Thomas 3-5 w/ 3 RBI and Perez 3-5 for The Bums.

SRBB 8 BDB 0

W – Clark (2)
L – Oquist (7)

Game #2: Both teams score in the first with Blarney taking a 3-2 lead. That would be all the runs they would score though as Smoltz’s settles down. Thomas and Myers each drive in 2.

SRBB 5 BDB 3

W – Smoltz (12)
L – Weathers (2)
S – Daal (4)

Game #3: Three Bums collect 2 hits and Sanders 3. 15 hits to 3 makes for a lopsided Bum victory.

Game #5: The Big Unit collects an ugly win as Santa tags him for 4 doubles and a triple. He also allowed 5 walks to keep things exciting. Alomar 3-5 w 3 RBI and Caminiti with 2 RBI. Molitor 4-5 w/ 4 RBI, Green 4-6 w/ 4 RBI and 2 HRs, Palmer 3-run double and Bordick with a 3-run shot powered the home team today.

SRBB 9 BDB 17

W – Johnson (13)
L – Hammond (5)

Game #6: A big 5 spot on the 6th sealed this game up for Santa Rosa. Loretta 2-5 w/ 4 RBI and Meyers with 3 hits. Fletcher 2-4 w/ 4 RBI carried the Bandits. Down 1 in the 9th Blarney couldn’t summon a single base runner against Daal’s grade 1.

SRBB 6 BDB 5

W – Miller (2)
L – Oquist (8)
S – Daal (5)

Series Summary: This series summarizes Blarney’s year perfectly. Pile all hits into one game and look hapless in most of the others. When you do score, let the other team stay close to burn relief innings. All this adds up to Sana Rosa taking 5 of 6 by outscoring 43-29 (17 Bandits scored in one game).
