Corktown Bootleggers @ Castle Rock Hounds

Series Preview: While it’s technically a battle of two second-place teams, Castle Rock is 56-37 and Corktown is 38-54, so the Hounds are looking for a strong series as they host the Bootleggers. This Corktown offense has some studs though (A-Rod, Rolen, Giambi, Belle)
Game #1: Corktown jumps out to an early 4-0 lead after two innings, despite facing Hermanson (12). They will only score one more run after that, but it is enough. The final is 5-3, Corktown as the Bootleggers take the series opener. Baldwin gets a quality start for Corktown.

WP: Baldwin (4-10)
LP: Hermanson (6-8)
S: Hernandez (19)

Game #2: Castle Rock’s ace, Pettitte, faces off against Doc Gooden. The Hounds defense is sloppy, and Corktown takes advantage, taking a 4-0 lead into the 8th. Castle Rock scores 3 in the 8th, aided by a Corktown error. In the 9th, Hamelin coaxes a two-out walk and is replaced by Clayton as a pinch-runner. Bonds then grounds it to Brito, who throws it away, and Clayton comes all the way around from first to score and ties it at 4-4. Snow walks, and Easley wins with it a bloop single to take it 5-4. A nice comeback win for the Hounds.

WP: Small (2-1)
LP: Roberto Hernandez (2-5)

Game #3: Bohanon vs. Ramon Martinez in this one. All is quiet until the bottom of the 4th when Sean Berry breaks things open with a 3-run homer. Bohanon is cruising until the 7th when Burks hits a pinch-hit three-run homer. It is 5-3, Castle Rock at that point. And, that is how it would end. The Hounds’ bullpen settles things down.

WP: Bohanon (7-3)
LP: Martinez (5-7)
S: Benitez (21)

Game #4: Looking to guarantee the split, the Hounds send Dickson to the mound to face Paniagua. The Hounds are doing everything they can to let the Bootleggers stay in this game, grounding into 5 double plays through 5 innings! But, with 5 walks and 7 hits through 5 innings, the Hounds are still up 4-0. Corktown doesn’t get to Dickson until the 8th, with a Rolen two-run homer to make it 4-2, which sends Jason to the showers. Clayton clears the bases with a double in the bottom of the 8th to take a 7-2 lead for Castle Rock. And, that’s all she wrote.

WP: Dickson (6-6)
LP: Paniagua (1-3)

Game #5: Castle Rock looking to win its fourth in a row, sends Mark Clark to the mound to face Steve Trachsel. Corktown starts the game off with a bang, as A-Rod hits a single and Lockharts hits a homer to lead things off. But, Castle Rock claws its way back in, taking a 4-2 lead after 5 innings. Corktown tightens things up with a run in the 7th to make it 4-3. Then, Castle Rock falls apart in the 9th. The Hounds defense commits three errors in one inning, and Corktown scores four unearned runs to capitalize. Hernandez finishes it off for Corktown, as the Hounds will be scheduled for extra defensive drills tomorrow. The Final is 7-4, Corktown.

WP: Roberto Hernandez (3-5)
LP: Benitez (2-4)

Game #6: It’s a rematch of Game 1, as the Hounds try to win the series, while Corktown looks to salvage a split. It’s another close one as Corktown again jumps out to a quick 2-0 lead. But, Castle Rock ties it up in the 3rd. Corktown adds a run in the 7th to make it 3-2. Belle and Gaetti hit back-to-back doubles in the 8th to make it 5-2, Corktown. Small proceeds to walk in another run to make it 6-2. And, that is how it ends up.

WP: Baldwin (5-10)
LP: Hermanson (6-9)

Series Summary: Corktown and Castle Rock split the series. The Hounds defense really fails them in one game, with four unearned runs in the 9th inning. Hermanson, despite having a 2.02 ERA on the season, has a 6-9 record.
