Manhattan Gas Hornets @ Long Beach Titans

Series Preview: An early-season series division leaders off to good starts.
Game #1: Long Beach took a 6-1 lead behind 3 hits and 4 RBI from Difelice and a 2 run HR by Justice. Manhattan chipped away and cut it to 6-5 in the 9th with the tying run on 3rd but Boehringer got Tino Martinez to ground out ending the game. Durham & Dave Martinez had 3 hits each to lead the Gas Hornets offense.
Game #2: This looked like it was going to be a high scoring game when Hammonds homered to tie the game 4-4 in the 3rd. But that was the end of the scoring until the 10th when Jeter doubled in Kendall to give Manhattan a 5-4 lead. In the bottom of the inning, Samuel scored on an infield grounder when he knocked down Kendall jarring the ball loose. In the 12th Blauser singled, Hammond doubled, and Justice hit an infield single scoring Blauser, giving Long Beach a 6-5 win.
Game #3: Benes threw a 3 hit shutout as Long Beach won 3-0. Oliver opened the scoring with a 2 run HR in the 3rd and Strange tripled in Justice for the other run.
Game #4: Manhattan scored 3 in the 4th and took a 3-1 lead. Boggs doubled in King in the 6th and Nunnally homered in the 7th to tie the game. In the bottom of the 8th with 2 outs, Boggs singled and scored when Baerga followed with a double giving Long Beach a 4-3 win. The Long Beach bullpen threw 4 no-hit innings to seal the win.
Game #5: Manhattan exploded for 5 in the 1st inning and rolled to an 11-4 win. Stairs had 3 hits, 2 HRs, and 5 RBI to lead the offense. Durham added 3 hits and Mulholland pitched into the 9th to pick up the win.
Game #6: Manhattan again took an early lead. This time 2-0 and were still ahead 3-1 in the 7th when King hit a 2-run HR to tie the game. The Gas Hornets took the lead back in the 8th on a Durham SF and added an insurance run in the 9th for a 5-3 lead. In the bottom of the 9th Long Beach loaded the bases with 1 out. Strange singled and when Cameron booted the ball, King scored the tying run. Baerga followed with a SF plating the winning run in a 6-5 win.
Series Summary: A series of close games with Long Beach winning 5 of 6.

Portland Mavericks @ New Hampshire Nighthawks

Series Summary: Portland and New Hampshire split the 6 game series. Lots of runs scored in the series. Can’t tell if it was a good offense or just bad pitching.
