DeWitt Tigers @ Castle Rock Hounds

Game #1: The first game is a real barn burner. Dewitt puts up 7 runs in the 5th inning to race out to a 7-1 lead. Archi Cianfrocco hits a grand slam off of Kenny Rogers. But, Castle Rock comes chipping back with 3 runs in the 5th, 3 in the 7th, and a two-out rally in the 9th to send it to extras. Finally, the Hounds win it in the 14th on a JT Snow bloop RBI single. Bonds and Snow hit homers for the Hounds, with Snow going 5-7 on the day. The final is 9-8, Castle Rock.

WP: Mike James (1-0)
LP: Paul Byrd (0-2)

Game #2: Colon vs. Hermanson in Game 2. Castle Rock jumps all over Bartolo, chasing him after just 1 inning and five runs. Meanwhile, Hermanson and Small combine to throw a shutout. The bullpen gets a nice rest after the series opener. The final is 6-0, Castle Rock.

WP: Hermanson (2-2)
LP: Colon (0-3)

Game #3: Burkett vs. Mark Clark in this one, as the Hounds have the pitching advantage. The Hounds jump on the Tigers pitchers early and often again. Burkett is chased after giving up 7 runs in 3.1 IP. Meanwhile, Clark cruises along for a complete-game victory. The final is 8-2, Castle Rock as they have taken the first three games of the series.

WP: Clark (3-1)
LP: Burkett (2-1)

Game #4: A week pitching match-up between Mark Leiter (3) and Jason Dickson (7). So, of course, we have a pitcher’s duel. At least, until the 8th. It is 1-1 going into that inning, but Butch Huskey opens up a lead with a 3-run shot off of Miceli, who is in relieving Leiter. Meanwhile, Dickson cruises to a CG win. The final is 4-1, Castle Rock and they take the first four games of the series.

WP: Dickson (2-2)
LP: Leiter (0-3)

Game #5: Pettitte vs. Florie as the two teams send their respective aces to the mound. It’s a pitcher duel again, with the game tied 1-1 after 9 innings. The bullpens will be tested today. Tigers plate one in the top of the 12th on a Mark Sweeney 2-out single. But, Sean Berry keeps the game alive with a 2-out single in the bottom of the inning, which allows Bonds to get to the plate, where he promptly hits a 2-run walk-off homer to give the Hounds a 3-2 victory and 5-0 series lead.

WP: Dreifort (1-0)
LP: Dejean (0-1)

Game #6: The Hounds are looking for the 6-game sweep and the Tigers are looking to salvage something from an otherwise lost series. The Hounds could smell that sweep, and Kenny Rogers goes 9 full innings without giving up an earned run (gave up 4 unearned) and the Hounds bats combine for 13 hits and 9 runs in a 9-4, Castle Rock victory. Tatis and Bragg hit homers for the Hounds.

POR 6 CBL 5
Game #2: CBL 10 POR 6

Steel City Sluggers @ Cincinnati Outlaws

Series Preview: First place Steel City comes to last-place Cincinnati. Let’s toss an angry pitbull into a cage of kittens and see what happens…..
Game #1: SCS 14-17-1, CIN 3-9-1
One of the tamer games of the series, as the Sluggers didn’t pour it on too bad (yeah, it was worse than the score indicated). Dan Wilson paced the attack, going 3-for-5 with a homer and two RBI.
Game #2: SCS 19-21-0, CIN 1-4-1
Steel City scored multiple runs in five innings and had eight players with multiple hits. But HEY! Cincinnati did force them to strand TWELVE runners. It could have been worse!
Game #3: SCS 5-11-0, CIN 2-8-0
This closer resembled what we know as baseball. Wilson blasted a pair of solo homers and Rust Greer delivered three hits for the Sluggers.
Game #4: SCS 8-14-0, CIN 5-11-0
Rusty Greer and Tony Gwynn each had two doubles (Gwynn on a 4-for-5 performance) to lead Steel City.
Game #5: SCS 3-7-0, CIN 0-3-1
Jack McDowell works seven and two-third scoreless, limiting just three Outlaws hits and fanning nine.
Game #6: SCS 9-14-0, CIN 8-11-5 (13 innings)
Best effort from Outlaws in the series, but FIVE errors do them in. Jose Canseco was possessed, going 4-for-5, with two homers and SEVEN RBI in a losing cause.
Series Summary: Well, the cement mixer ride was no fun for those of us in Cincinnati. It makes us really excited to head to Pittsburgh for the rematch later in the summer! On a serious note, Pittsburgh has a solid lineup and great pitching. Hope everyone else has something for them this season, because the Outlaws did not…

Santa Rosa Beach Bums @ Valdosta Bombers

Series Summary: Very low scoring series in which the Beach Bums take 4 of 6 from the home Bombers. John Smoltz had a pair of CG victories for the Bums.

Flossmoor Flying Squirrels @ Hollywood Vampires

Series Summary: Hollywood wins their 3rd of the year, but add 5 losses to their standings as well…Boy we suck.
