Series Preview: A battle between the 3rd and 4th place teams in the West.
Series Summary: The Hounds make the Mavericks look like the 1927 Yankees, as Portland crushes Castle Rock, winning the first four games, before finally succumbing in a one-run loss in Game 5. Not sure what got into the Portland bats, but they were humming this series! They put up 48 runs in the 5 games.
Fort Worth Panthers @ California Quakes
Series Preview: Division rival Fort Worth Panthers head west to take on the California Quakes. With a half game separating the two top teams in the AL, this series could be significant in deciding which team wins the division and which team plays Flossmoor in the ALDS.
Series Summary: California wins 3 of 5 and holds a precarious 1.5 game lead on the division.
Blarney Drive Bandits @ Winnipeg Goldeyes
Series Preview: Winnipeg has locked up the division and is just playing for stats and keeping the team healthy. Blarney had a disappointing year as the poor pitching could not be saved by some very good hitting.
Game #1: A 5 run first chased Benes. But a pinch-hit grand slam by McGwire. turned the game around. Blarney scored 2 in the 8th on a Henderson homer to tie the game. But Lofton hit a 3 run homer to give Winnipeg a 10-7 win.
Game #2: Schilling great again 1 in 9 as Winnipeg wins 6-1 and improves to 16-2.
Game #3: Glavine was amazing 3 hits with the bat just 1 as a pitcher. 6-0 Winnipeg.
Game #4: Benes comes back early and was bad again. Blarney wins 6-1 as Wells was great and Klesko hits 2 homers!
Game #5: McGwire and Ventura homer in this 9-2 blowout,
Series Summary: Winnipeg wins 4 of the 5 games as Blarney is looking at the draft lotto, Ventura 9 RBIs. Manhattan Gas Hornets @ anta Rosa Beach Bums
Series Preview: The Bums welcome the Manhatten Golden Hornets to the Emerald Coast for a five game set. The Bums lost ground to Steel City last series and now stand 5 games out with only 17 games remaining. As such the Bums are going with their best pitchers, and hoping they’ll still be available for the 11 games remaining with Steel City.
Game #1: The Hornets call on Hawkins (0-0), the kid is showing some good stuff. He has a future. The Bums call on Rosado (11-3, 2.03). In the 1st Bums Alomar reached by error, stole and scored on a Caminiti single. In the 4th Bums Brumfield goes yard, 2-0. In their next at back Hawkins helped his cause with an RBI single to add to his six K’s in 4 innings. In the 6th Hornets Martinez walked and scored on a Howell double. Later Harris singled Howell home, 3-2 Hornets. Bums tie it up in the bottom half as White singled, stole and scored on a Brumfield single, Gagne followed with a homer, Bums 5-3.

Game #2: Boy Hampton and Manhatten seem to have a lot of x-Bums. After coming from behind, but letting game one slip away the Hornets will use Mulholland (10-6, 3.86) to face Bums Smoltz (18-4, 2.47). After two innings where the Bums had scoring opportunities to no avail the Hornets showed how it is done. Alicea doubled and Jeter singled him home. Hornets add an insurance run in the 6th on an Anderson homer, 2-0. Mulholland put the icing on the cake banging a 2-run double in the 9th.

Game #3: After the lift by the x-Bum Mulholland the Hornets call on Watson (9-12, 6.44) and the Bums Appier (16-9, 3.18). In the 1st Bums Thomas went yard with 2-out. In the 2nd Bums Hudler leadoff with a dinger, 2-0 Bums. In their next at bat Hornets Manto goes yard to make it a 1-run game. In the 5th Jeter, Martinez and Martinez singledwith 2-out, 2-2. In the 6th Anderson singled, advanced on a grounder and scored on a Watson single, Hornets 3-2. In the bottom half Alomar and Thomas singled, Caminiti drew a wal to fill the bases with 0-out. Hudler singled for one. Watson is pulled for Perez to face MacFarlane who just came off a long injury and is itchy. He grounded into a douple play scoring Thomas, Bums 4-3, but White followed up with a single. In their next at bat Hornets Jeter and PH Shipley singled, Martinez followed with a single, but Jeter thrown out at home and Martinez at second. The the 7th PH Daulton, Sanders and Alomar singled for one with no outs. Thomas than doubled off reliable x-Bum Patterson for one more. Hudler followed that with a RBI single, Bums 8-3.

Santa Rosa Beach 8 13 0 WP: Castillo 2b: Thomas; HR: Thomas, Hudler; Sb: Hudler; H: Batchelor.
Game #4: After letting the last one get away, the Hornets are looking for some Mulholland magic with Hitchcock (8-9, 4.98) and the Bums call on Finley (12-8, 4.30). In the 3rd Bums Alomar lead off with a single, Thomas walked and White smacked a triple, 2-0. Hornets come right back in the 4th with a Martinez leadoff homer. In the bottom half Bums prospect Loretta hit a solo dinger, 3-1. MacFarlane shaking off the rest hit a 3-run homer in the 5th, 6-1 Bums. Young pulls the Hornets back to within striking distance with his own 3-run homer in the 7th, 6-4.

Game #5: Hornets cap the series with Haney (10-11, 4.92) to face Bums Adams (7-0, 2.46). In the 4th Thomas singled, Caminiti doubled and Hudler tripled for two. MacFarlane singled home Hudler, 3-0. Hornets respond scoring one on a Harris double. In the next inning Durham goes yard with 2-out to make it a 1-run game, that was followed by a Jeter double, passed ball and Martinez infield hit, tie game. In the bottom of the 9th with 1-out and the Bums having placed runners on 1st and 2nd they call on Goff for the first time all year to do what he is on the team to do. Pinch hit in game winning situations. The Hornets counter pulling righty Powell for lefty Krivda. Bums look at their bench, only right handed batter remaining is Alomar who is resting. They go with Goff who stroked a single scoring PR Perez for the game winner.

Series Summary: After a disappointing loss in game 2 to a dominating performance by x-Bum Mulholland, the Bums turn around and take the series 4 games to 1.
