Series Preview: | The Bums welcome the Hampton Huskies to the Emerald Coast for a five game set. Definitely getting down to crunch time as the Bums trail division leader Steel City by four games with only 22 games remaining. |
Game #1: | The Huskies call on Hershiser (14-11, 4.81) to stop the Bums who go with Appier (16-8). After Cangelosi leadoff the game with a walk, Thomas parked one, Bums up 2-0. Huskies get one back in the 4th on a Rodriguez leadoff shot. Three singles later by Stanley, Clark and Howard and it’s a tie game. In the bottom half White leadoff with a double followed by a Myers RBI single, Bums 3-2. Bums Thomas leadoff the 5th with a dinger and the Bums are up by two again. Huskies Stanley drew a walk in the 6th followed by a Surhoff double, 2nd and 3rd 1-out. Bums go to Batchelor who walked Mueller to fill the bases. Huskies Howard brought home one on an infield grounder. Batchelor then got Hershiser on strikes. Bums 4-3. Eisenreich singled in the 7th and scored on a Rodriguez single. Tie game. In the 10th Huskies Surhoff reached on error and advanced to 3rd with 0-out. Bums forced to pull the infield in. Doesn’t matter Mueller lifted a fly to left and Surhoff trotted home, 5-4 Huskies. In the bottom half Bums White goes yard to tie the game followed by a Myers triple, 1-out. Huskies walk Gagne to get to RP Thomas and pull the infield in. Pinch hitter Encarnacion is beamed to fill the bases. 1-out, Huskie IN again. Leadoff man Cangelosi lofts a high fly to right and Myers plods down the line. Safe. Game #2: | Probably not going to beat the excitement of game one again. The Huskies go with Vanegmond (3-2, 5.55) to face Bums Rosado (11-3, 2.14). Goose eggs until the 6th. After Alomar walked, Thomas stepped up again and went yard, 2-0. Later in the inning RP DeLucia uncorked one allowing a Myers to score. In their next at bat the Huskies place Martin and Stocker on second and third and Tettleton lofted one to left for a score, 3-1. Bums filled the bases on walks in the 7th, but failed to deliver. In the 8th the Huskies placed runners on second and third again. And Fetters gave up a 3-run homer to Surhoff. Huskies 4-3. And that is how it would end. Game #3: | Will it be another barn burner. Huskies pitch Park (3-5, 5.86) and the Bums Adams (6-0, 2.66). Bums filled the bases in the 1st and Cangelosi scored on a White sacrifice fly. After an Alomar single in the 3rd, Bums Thomas went yard again, 3-0. Later in the inning Caminiti scored on a Myers single. Bums Caminiti added a 3-run homer in the 4th, 7-0. Game #4: | After a disappointing outing the Huskies put Gordon (10-12, 5.17) to face Bums Smoltz (17-4, 2.51). Goose eggs until the 6th when the Bums filled the bases on walks and Hudler banged a 2-run single. Huskies fill the base in the 8th, score one on a Young fielder choice. Game #5: | Will the Huskies pull out the series finale and be the spoiler. They call on Belcher 11-9, 2.77) and the Bums Appier (16-8, 3.16). In the 4th Bums Cangelosi drew a walk, Alomar singled and Thomas went yard, but in the confusion on the close play at the wall Alomar went back to first and Thomas passed thim, 2-0. In their next at bat Huskies McRae singled and Young homered. Just like that, tie game. In the 6th Huskies Martin walked, stole second and third and scored on a sacrifice fly by Stanley, 3-2.
