1996 PLAYER / PITCHER OF THE WEEK #14
|Fort Worth Panthers @ Castle Rock Hounds|
|Series Preview:||First place Fort Worth visits the 3rd place Castle Rock Hounds.|
|Game #1:||The Panthers squandered a couple of prime opportunities to break the game wide open, being thrown out at home twice by Alex Ochoa! But, Fort Worth does just enough to win the game, 3-2. The Hounds have a runner on 3rd with nobody out in the 9th, but can’t capitalize!
WP: Jackson (2-0)
LP: Eichhorn (1-3)
S: Rojas (25)
|Game #2:||The Hounds would appear to have the pitching advantage with Eldred (10) facing Drabek (4). But the Panthers offense answers the call, as they put up 4 runs in the first five innings. But, the Hounds bullpen answers strong, and the home team pulls out a 5-4 victory! Fort Worth gets the tying run to second in the 9th, but can’t bring him home.
WP: Eldred (4-2)
LP: Drabek (7-5)
S: Adams (9)
|Game #3:||Fort Worth has the major pitching advantage with Kevin Brown taking the mound (19) vs. Wojciechowski (4). And, it pays off for the visitors. Brown carries a no-hitter into the 7th before Bonds breaks it up with a single. The game is never close as Fort Worth takes it 7-1.
WP: Brown (15-1)
|Game #4:||Nomo is injured on the first batter and is lost for 7 days. Let’s see if the Hounds can take advantage of the situation. Short story….they can’t. While they jump out to a 3-2 lead thanks to Stahoviak homer, they can’t hold on. Kenny Rogers (who doesn’t have a W mind you) walks 7 batters in a 6.2IP, and the Panthers get some clutch hits. Fort Worth takes it 5-3.
WP: Smith (1-0)
LP: Rogers (4-8)
S: Rojas (26)
|Game #5:||The stopper for Castle Rock, Pettitte, takes the mound. He is cruising through 7, giving up just one run, but Sheffield makes him pay with a 3-run shot. And, the Hounds just can’t figure out the Forth Worth pitching staff, mustering only one run on six hits. The final is 4-1, Fort Worth.
WP: Osborne (6-6)
LP: Pettitte (8-5)
S: Rojas (27)
|Game #6:||The Hounds try to salvage some dignity in Game 6. Dickson is tired, so he can’t go, and it’s a bullpen game for the Hounds. Of course, this is when the Hounds pull it all together and take the game by a 3-1 count. Panthers offense just couldn’t get itself on track this game.
WP: Adams (4-3)
LP: Tewksbury (5-4)
S: Myers (1)
|Series Summary:||The Panthers pretty much dominate the Hounds, but Castle Rock manages to pull out two victories to make it respectable.|
