Winnipeg Goldeyes @ Long Beach Titans
Series Preview: Winnipeg is just too far behind Long beach to catch them for the final wild card in a 140 game season. But the Goldeyes had a chance to make the race closer with a big home series.
Game #1: In battle of aces Glavine(12-10) wins over Martinez(14-7) 8-4.Lopez had the big homer for Winnipeg.
Game #2: Winnipeg has a dramatic 3 run come back of Jose Mesa the super closer scoring 3 in the 9th. Buhner was ther hero with the walkoff 2 run homer. It was is second of the game. WGE 8 LBT 6 Shockingly it was Mesa’s 8th blown save. Blow to Winnipeg Mark Mcgwire out for the week.
Game #3: Hill plays hero in the 8th off Schilling to give Long Beach the 3-2 win. Santangelo out for the year but lucky just after he got to his 45% use..
Game #4: Candiotti was great and reed picked up the save in the 4-1 Winnipeg win as Venturas homers.
Game #5: Homerfest won by Winnipeg as Buhner, Benzinger, Owens and homers Manto twice. Fielder and Samuel for Long Beach was not enough.  7-3 Winnipeg.
Series Summary: Winnipeg wins 4 of 5 games as the bats were rolling 66s even without McGwire. But they are 6 games back of Long Beach with only 20 to play although 5 are in Long Beach and have a slightly easier schedule but 6 games to make up not very likely.
Stockton Wings @ Blarney Drive Bandits
Series Preview: Stockton (31-84) taking on Blarney (78-37) in a series of teams with near polar opposite records.
Game #1: The Bandits ambush Lieber for 7 quick runs as Jon could manage just 2 outs. Johnson had a shutout through 6 but lost that in the 7th. Seitzer and Murray each collect 3 RBI as Blarney pounds out 8 XB hits.

Game #2: Blarney mugs Stockton early for 5 in the 1st. Olivares settled down a bit but bows out in the 5th after allowing 7. Hampton and 4 relievers shutout the Wings to this a lopsided affair. Murray, again, with a nice game, going 3-5 w/ 2 RBI. Lyons launched a 3-run shot in the 8th.

Game #3: Bandits strike for 3 in the 1st and tack on 2 more in the 4th. Stockton breaks up the doughnuts with 2 in the 7th but don’t get within striking distance. Magadan has 2 doubles and Jefferson drives in both Wing’ers. Murray continues his hot hitting with a 4-4 3 RBI day.

Game #4: Back and forth game and Stockton took their first lead of the series after the top half of the 4th. Blarney scored 2 in the bottom half to take it back and didn’t give it up. Howard drove in 2 and Kruk drilled a pinch hit solo shot in the 9th to make it close.

Game #5: Game was 0-0 after 5 full. Bohanon and Wells were both dealing. Bandits score 2 in the bottom half of the 5th off a Snopek single. Jefferson picked up the solo Wing RBI on a Sac fly. Teams combined for just 8 hits. Bandits lose Perry for 29 days due to the ol’ beanball to the back of the helmet.

Game #1: Panthers jump ahead with 5 runs in the 2nd capped off by Edgar Martinez three-run homer. Barry Bonds falls a triple short of a cycle extending his hitting streak to 26 games.
Ft. Worth wins 6 to 3
Game #2: Panther spot starter, Mike Harkey gets hit hard allowing 14 hits in 7 innings.The Hounds get some production from the bottom of the lineup. Eduardo Perez goes 2 for 5 and drives in three and Tom Pagnozzi goes 3 for 4 driving in two. Meanwhile Barry Bonds extends his hitting streak to 27 games.
Castle Rock wins 7 to 3
Game #3: Pat Rapp pitches a 2 hit complete game shutout striking out 7. Barry Bonds hitting streak comes to an end for Castle Rock. Panthers score 9 runs on 13 hits – though they scored 5 runs in the 8th of a rusty reliever.
Ft. Worth wins 9 to 0
Game #4: The last two games were slugfests – each team won once
The two teams combined for 32 hits and 22 runs in game 4
Panthers had 7 Xbase hits compared to 5 for the Hounds

Game #5: In the last game the two teams combined for 18 runs on 26 hits. Fred McGriff hit 2 home runs and drove in 5 in a losing cause.

Hampton Huskies @ Manhattan Gas Hornets
Series Preview: Hampton and Columbus battle for the NL East basement – Manhattan holds a 1 game lead, owning the cellar, as the series begins (very brief report)….
Game #1: Hampton comes from 2 down to reverse the game and win going away 4-2. Dave Hollins homers (3) to provide the winning margin. Doug Drabek the win (5-6), Paul Assenmacher the save (9). Glenn Dishman covers the loss (3-7).
Game #2: Luis Alicea drives in 2 in a 3 run 5th to pace the Manhattan 4-1 win. LaTroy Hawkins gets the win (3-3), Matt Mantei the save (2) while former Gas Hornet Orel Hershiser suffers the humiliating loss (16-6).
Game #3: Hampton fires back – well fires back more times than Manhattan in a 9-6 27 hit slugfest. Eric Young gets 3 hits, 2 runs, a rbi, Al Martin gets 3 hits, 2 runs/rbis and Brian McCrae gets 2 hits and 3 rbis – no Hampton homers in 9 runs. Scott Livingstone (5) and Steve Decker (3) homer for Manhattan. Arthur Rhodes picks up the win (3-7), T.J. Mathews the save (8) and Sterling Hitchcock the loss (6-8).
Game #4: Another day, another slugfest, but fewer hits and more runs. Gas Hornets on top this time, 11-6. Tino Martinez has big day, 3 hits, runs and rbis and his 30th homer. Garrett Anderson (10) also homers and drives in 3, Benito Santiago gets in a game and homers (11) and Turner Ward goes yard (4) as well. Jim Eisenreich (10) and Mickey Tettleton (25) do the long ball things for Hampton – Tettleton drives in 4! Tom Gordon gives up 6 of the Gas Hornets runs and takes the loss (5-8) while Shawn Boskie continues to impress winning for the 12th time (12-8) – the team must score a lot of runs when he pitches.
Game #5: OK – so far no shift in the standings, Hampton still up by 1 based on game 5, they want the lead – and to make it bigger. Bobby J. Jones goes 8 innings, 8 hits and NO runs for the win (10-10). Dough Bochtler cleans up the 9th to preserve the shutout. And Hampton scores lots of runs – 9 of them. Eric Young 3 hits, 2 rbis (triple), Al Martin – 3 hits, 2 runs/rbis, Brian McCrae 3 hits, 3 rbis. 15 hits for the Huskies.
Series Summary: Hampton takes the series 3-2, gains 1 game up in the standings and the Gas Hornets are 1 game deeper in the cellar. Next week they host the top team in the NL East – Santa Rosa while Hampton hosts Steel City.
