California Quakes @ Fort Worth Panthers
Series Summary: Panthers sweep.
Cincinnati Outlaws @ Sugar Land Skeeters
Series Summary: Sugar Land wins the last two to salvage a tie in the division as Cincinnati wins 3 of 5.
Santa Rosa Beach Bums @ Long Beach Titans
Game #1: A great pitchers duel between Appier and Martinez. Long Beach had a 1-0 lead going into the 9th. Alomar walked, stole 2nd and went to 3rd on a throwing error. Caminiti followed with a SF to tie the game. In the bottom of the 10th Samuel hit a PH single and Gibson tried to score from 2nd. The throw to the plate was in time but Myers couldn’t handle it allowing the winning run to score. Martinez threw 10 1-hit innings to improve to 13-5.
Game #2: Long Beach had a 2-0 lead heading to the 5th. Santa Rosa scored 3 times with Caminiti doubling in the go ahead run. From there Santa Rosa piled on scoring 6 in the 7th and rolling to an 11-2 win. Alomar & Nunally hit 3 run bombs to key the rout. After a rough 1st inning, Smoltz threw 7 strong innings to improve to 12-3.
Game #3: The Beach Bums offense stayed hot as they pounded their way to a 12-5 win. Caminiti hit 2 2-run HRs to lead the offense with Gagne adding 3 RBI.
Game #4: Santa Rosa scored 5 in the 1st and went on to a 6-1 win. Finley gave up just 5 hits in 8 innings to get the win.
Game #5: This was a fun game. Santa Rosa jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the 4th with Caminiti driving in 2. In the bottom of the 5th the Titans offense came alive. Maldonado doubled in 2 and Hill hit a 2 run HR to give Long Beach a 5-4 lead. It stayed that way until the 9th when PH Hubbard homered off Mesa to tie the game and send it to extra innings. In the bottom of the 11th Boggs doubled. 2 batters later PH Stubbs doubled him in to give Long Beach a 6-5 win.
Series Summary: Santa Rosa wins 3 of the 5 games.

Corktown Bootleggers @ Castle Rock Hounds
Series Preview: Two teams that aren’t going anywhere fast meet in Colorado for a 5-game set.
Game #1: The Bootleggers fall behind 2-0 early, but score 3 in the 6th and 4 in the seventh to take the lead and not look back. The final is 7-3. Castle Rock only manages 3 hits on the day, but two are home runs.
W: Sanders (4-5)
L: Eldred (1-2)
S: Hernandez (2)
Game #2: A crazy game. Castle Rock appears to have it all wrapped up, with a 10-2 lead going into the ninth. Corktown scores 7 runs in the top of the inning, but Ruffin finally comes on to close it for the Hounds, and the final is 10-9.

W: Rogers (9-7)
L: Torres (6-9)
S: Ruffin (4)

Game #3: Chris Widger is the unlikely offensive hero for Castle Rock, with two homers in the 9 hole, including a grand slam. The Hounds belt out 11 hits and take Game 3 by a 8-3 score.
W: Pettitte (10-5)
L: Miranda (2-8)
Game #4: Game 100 on the season is a barn burner. Castle Rock wins 11-10, and guarantees the series win. Corktown loses Ausmus and Stahoviak for 5 and 12 games, respectively. Ramon Martinez gets roughed up for 9 runs (6 earned) in just 3.2. He is really underachieving for Corktown, given his 14 grade. J.T. Snow picks up five RBI for the home team. Plunk shuts Corktown down in the 9th, in the one-run game.
W: Rekar (9-7)
L: Martinez (7-12)
S: Plunk (2)
Game #5: Corktown is able to somewhat salvage the series by taking the final game in extra innings, 12-7. Urbina gets the blown save and the win for Corktown, going 4.2 IP in relief of Valenzuela. Bonds hits 3 home runs on the game (!), but it’s not enough, as the bullpen implodes in the 10th.
W: Urbina (1-0)
L: Dougherty (1-2)
Series Summary: Castle Rock takes 3 out of 5 in a high-scoring series.
DeWitt Tigers @ Montreal Dreamers
Series Preview: AL East cellars rival squaring off.
Series Summary: Montreal took the opener and then was quite a welcoming host!  Dewitt took the final four including the series finale 26-5 (!)
Winnipeg Goldeyes @ Hampton Huskies
Series Preview: Hampton going through the motions at this point most likely hosts Winnipeg for five.
Game #1: Mickey Tettleton smacks a grand slam in the first inning and then it’s cruise control from then on as Tom Gordon easily makes his best start of the season in a complete game 5-1 Hampton win.
Gordon didn’t allow an extra base hit in the game and walked just one while striking out five. Kenny Lofton and Omar Vizquel each had two hits for the Goldeyes.
BJ Surhoff walked three times and Joe Girardi hit his 2nd home run of the year.
In the first of a long line of injuries in the series, Hampton’s Dave Hollins went down for 10 days after diving for a foul ball and discovering dugouts are harder than his bones.
Game #2: Curt Schilling scattered eight hits over 7-1/3 shutout innings and Hampton could only manage one measley unearned run as Winnipeg evened things out with a 3-1 win.
Hampton alumnus Jeff Frye made the difference with a double in the 5th inning that drove in two runs.
Brian McRae scored the lone Hampton run in the bottom of the 9th as a result of a Bip Roberts error.
How did Bip get into the game, you ask?
Well thanks for asking. Mark McGwire slammed into the stands by the dugout chasing a foul ball and was lost for five games and then Bret Barberie one-upped him by sticking his noggin’ out a little to far and taking one in the chop … gone for 11 days for his efforts.
David Veres got five outs for his 9th save of the season. Doug Drabek dropped to 3-5 on the year after giving up all three Winnipeg runs in five innings.
Game #3: This game stayed close right up until the lineup cards were handed to the ump. Robin Ventura smacked a three-run shot in the first inning off Arthur Rhodes and there was no turning back in an 8-0 laugher.
Rhodes (2-6) stayed in long enough to give up another homer – solo shot by Jay Buhner in the 3rd inning – both with one out to go in that inning felt something pop in his elbow. Gone for seven days and for you keeping track at home this was the 4th injury of the series.
VEntura’s homer was his 17th and Buhner’s was his 23rd. Ventura actually had an overall darned good day at the plate missing the cycle by the ever elusive triple.
Hampton could only manage three hits against Winnipeg starter Jim Abbott (13-6) who went eight innings allowing four walks and two Ks.
Game #4: A wild and wacky game that could have gone other way as the teams combined for 27 hits with Hampton coming out ahead 8-5 thanks to a seven-run 5th inning off Tom Candiotti.
Hampton’s Mickey Tettleton homered twice (#19 and 20) and drove in four runs in the contest and Joe Girardi and Jim Eisenreich each had three hits.
Javy Lopez had two hits and drove in two runs for Winnipeg. Mark McGwire replacement Mike Simms became the series’s 5th fatality after getting bonked in the face by an Orel Hershiser pitch. Simms will be gone the better part of a month.
Game #5: Jay Buhner’s single in the 5th proved to be the game-winning scoring speed demon Kenny Lofton in a 3-2 Winnipeg win in the rubber match.
Robin Ventura provided the rest of the offense for Winnipeg with a two-run homer in the 2nd inning off Hampton starter Bobby Jones (7-9).
Rich Krivda (2-5) held on for 6-1/3 innings and gave up both Hampton runs on five hits with four walks and five strikeouts.
Joe Girardi (3) hit his 2nd homer of the series.
What would a game between these two teams be without injuries … an outfield collision of Rich Becker (9 days) and Omar Vizquel (2 days) saved the streak.
Series Summary: In a re-enactment of the Boer War, Winnipeg comes out ahead and takes 3 of 5 in Hampton.
Michigan Mauraders @ Blarney Drive Bandits
Series Preview: Couple of Michigan teams going at it.
Game #1: Visitors have the advantage with Nagy on the mound vs. Weathers. Marauders maul Weathers for 4 in the 1st but Weathers pulls out of it and tosses doughnuts for 4 more innings. Nagy was touched up here and there and the Bandits held a 5-4 lead heading into the 7th. Ripken collects 2 more RBI in the 7th (4 on the day) to put Michigan on top in game 1. Castilla drove in 2 to get the assist.

MM 6 BDB 5

W – Nagy (10-7)
L – Smith (2-1)
S – Parrett (6)

Game #2: Anderson delivers a huge 2 RBI Triple in the 6th to put Michigan up 3-2. Bandits answer with 1 in the bottom of 6 to tie it up. All square after 9, Blarney squeaks out a run with the help of a lead off Triple but Seitzer in the 10th. Couple of 1 run games to start things off, and it things won’t loosen up much the rest of the way.

MM 3 BDB 4

W – Bottalico (4-3)
L – Gardner (1-1)

Game #3: Just 8 total hits on the day as Randy Johnson and Bill Pulsipher duked it out. The Big Unit goes the distance allowing just 3 hits and Pulsipher just 5. Walton with the big at bats today as he drives in 2 of Blarney’s 3 runs.

MM 2 BDB 3

W – Johnson (17-1)
L – Pulsipher (5-4)

Game #4: After a hard fought 3-2 lead after 8 1/2, Parrett struggles mightily, allowing 4 hits (2 doubles) to just 7 batters. After the dust settled, the Bandits had taken a 3 run lead and didn’t look back. Castilla continues to hit, collecting 3 RBI (double and homer).

MM 3 BDB 6

W – Service (5-0)
L – Parrett (3-9)
S – Bottalico (18)

Game #5: It was all Brad Radke today as he tosses a 5 hit (just 6 base runners all day) shutout. 4 Marauders each collected 2 hits.

MM 4 BDB 0

W – Radke (9-5)
L – Hanson (11-5)

Series Summary: Blarney takes the series 3-2 but it could have easily went the other way.
