Series Preview: A 5 game set between Manhattan and Valdosta.
Series Summary: Valdosta takes 4 of 5 as they finally get some solid hitting and move to .500 at home on the year. Hornets had a bit of an offense outage during the series.
Steel City Sluggers @ Santa Rosa Beach Bums
Series Preview: Santa Rosa Beach welcomes Steel City to the Emerald Coast for a five game set. This is a big series for both teams as they have been chasing each other for the National League East pennant the entire season with both teams in the top spot at different times.
Game #1: Sluggers call on Harnisch (7-3, 2.22) for game one and the Bums send Lopez (0-0, 2.57) to the mound. Bums Sanders and Nunnally lead off the 2nd with singles followed by a Tarasco double to score Sanders. Myers then banged a single down the right field line scoring two, Bums 3-0 0-out. Bums Alomar lead off the 3rd with a double and scored on a Thomas single. PH White then banged a double to make it 5-0 in the 3rd.

Game #2: Sluggers a bit sluggish in game one go with Smiley (7-3, 2.64) to face Bums Appier (8-5, 3.92). Bums Sanders started the scoring again in the 2nd with a leadoff solo shot. Sluggers Grace even things up in the 4th with a solo shot. White put the Bums back on top in the 7th with a solo shot. With 2-out in the 8th, score 2-1, Caminiti and Thomas drew walks, then Sanders was intentionally walked to fill the bases. Intentionally walked to fill the bases with 2-out in the 8th, 2-1 score. Bums White banged a single, 4-1. Smiley and Appier bith pitched excellently.

Game #3: Sluggers try to get things going with Navarro (5-5, 4.09) to face Bums Smoltz (9-2, 3.32). Caminiti banged a solo shot in the 1st, Bums 1-0. Again both starters excellent outings.

Game #4: The Sluggers go to Sparks (4-2, 2.60) to salvage something in the series and the Bums call on Vamlandingham (7-4, 4.62). Sluggers Dunston leadoff the 2nd with a triple and Eusebio immediately singled him home. Sluggers first lead in the series. After a walk and a hit batsman the Sluggers had bases full in the 2nd with 0-out. Sparks grounded into a double play with Eusebio scoring. Sluggers Grace later banged a 2-run shot, Bums 4-0 in the 5th. In the bottom half Bums White and PH Hubbard singled and then Gagne went deep, 4-3 Sluggers. Two batters later Alomar banged a solo shot. Game reset. Sanders leadoff the 6th with a single followed by a Nunnally walk chasing Sparks. After a White bunt advancing the runners, PH Loretta lifted a fly to center scoring Sanders as Raines chooses to make the play at thirs, Bums 5-4. Sanders launched a 2-run double in the 7th, Bums 7-4. Sluggers score two in the 9th, but it wasn’t emough.

Game #5: Sluggers go with Swindell (2-6, 4.00) in game five as the Bums call on Finley (4-8, 5.07) in an anti-climatic matchup. In the 1st Raines reached on an error, Morandini on a SAC FC. Both runners advance on a passed ball and Raines scored on an infield grounder, Bums 1-0. In the bottom half with 2-out, Thomas singled, Sanders was beamed and White banged an RBI single. With Berry on second and 2-out Dubston rolled one through the infield, Sluggers 2-1 in the 3rd. The Jones singled and Vaughn doubled, Bums 4-1. And Webster hit a 2-run homer, 6-1. Finley’s woes continue.

Fort Worth Panthers @ Portland Mavericks
Series Preview: The battle of the best in the AL West, with the Fort Worth Panthers heading to Portland to take on the Mavericks. Forth Worth is not just leading the NW West, but also the entire league with a 54-21 record. The Mavs aren’t not mathematically out of the playoff picture, but sit 4.5 games back of Detroit for the wildcard.
Game #1: Portland comes out partying with 8 runs in the first two innings, and cruise to the easy win. Nomo gives up 7 earned runs in just 1.2 innings for the Panthers.

Game #2: Mark Petkovsek pitches a gem for Portland, giving up just one run (unearned) and 4 hits as Portland gets the win.

Game #3: Forth Worth leaves no doubt in this one… exploding for 13 hits, with Patterson leading the way with 3 hits and 4 RBI.

Game #4: Portland jumps out to a give run lead, mainly due to a few costly errors by FWP, and hand on for the win even though the Panthers outhit them 10-6.

Game #5: Again Portland jumps out early, and Forth Worth can’t answer.

Series Summary: Portland not only survives, but games some ground after facing the leagues top team. While still sporting a below .500 record at home, where apparently the wild horses run free, it is a step in the right direction.
Look at the standings in NL… have you ever seen so a close season? Nine of 12 teams look to still be in the playoff hunt! Crazy.
Winnipeg Goldeyes @ Michigan Mauraders
Series Preview: Winnipeg comes in with a winning record against Michigan.

Very well pitched game for both teams. Tom Glavine throws a 4 hit shutout to win the game for the Goldeyes. Nagy pitches well for Michigan, but takes the loss. Benard and Clark get key hits in the 9th innning. Winnipeg scores all their runs in the 9th.
