Mexico City Chihuahuas @ Corktown Bootleggers
Series Preview: The 2 worst teams in the AL battle it out.
Series Summary: Corktown takes 3 of 5.
Winnipeg Goldeyes @ Long Beach Titans
Series Preview: Long Beach hosts division rival Winnipeg.
Game #1: After a slow start the Long Beach offense erupted for 5 runs off Glavine in the 5th and rolled to a 10-3 win. Hill drove in 3 runs and Fielder & Oliver added 2 RBI each to pace the offense. Martinez threw 7 strong innings to get the win.
Game #2: Long Beach opened up an 8-2 lead after 5 behind a 3 run HR by Oliver and a Meares 2 run 1b. But Winnipeg wouldn’t go away. Buhner hit a 2 run HR in the 6th and when Simms delivered a 3 run shot in the 8th it was 8-7. Mesa came on in the 9th and retired the side in order to preserve the Titans win.
Game #3: Winnipeg took an early 4-0 lead and held on to win 4-2. Buhner hit his third HR of the series in the first to get the Goldeyes started. Abbott pitched into the 7th before Reed & Veres finished off the victory.
Game #4: This was a good pitchers duel between Candiotti & Castillo. Winnipeg took a 2-1 lead into the bottom of the 8th. With 2 outs Nilsson tripled in Meares to tie the game. In the bottom of the 9th Justice led off with a HR to give Long Beach a 3-2 win.
Game #5: Baerga led off the game with a HR. Maldonado & Hill added 2 run shots and Long Beach won 7-2. Santangelo had 3 hits and Maldonado 3 RBI to pace the offense. Martinez went 7 innings to get the win.
Series Summary: Long Beach won 4 of 5 to tie Winnipeg for second in the NL West.
Flossmoor Flying Squirrels @ Castle Rock Hounds
Series Preview: Flossmoor looking to continue its excellent start to the season against a middling Castle Rock team that is trying to gain its footing in its first year as a franchise.
Game #1: It’s Greg Maddux vs. Ben McDonald in the first game. The Hounds decided to call McDonald up for the series to see what he could do in one of his few possible starts. It is a pitcher duel, as Flossmoor scores in the 1st inning, but it is quiet for a while after that. Castle Rock threatens in the 7th when Luis Gonzalez gets the first hit of the game (!) and then Roberto Kelly is hit and injured for two days. That brings up Bonds with the tying run on second and nobody out. He flies out, Gonzalez gets picked off and Snow strikes out. And that is it for the promising rally. But, Tartabull goes deep in the 8th and Castle Rock ties it up. But, undaunted, Flossmoor picks up a run in the 9th on a Gant sac fly. Maddux closes it out for a complete game 2-1 victory.

WP: Maddux (12-2)
LP: Henke (2-2)

Game #2: Another juicy pitching match-up as Cone faces Rogers. Castle Rock strikes first with a run in the 4th, and they add two more in the 5th. Rogers just cruises along, moving down the Flying Squirrels each inning. He ends up going for the complete game, surrendering only two hits, and the Castle Rock offense does enough to get the 3-0 win.

WP: Rogers (6-5)
LP: Cone (7-5)

Game #3: Ashby vs. Pettitte in Game 3, and Flossmoor jumps on Andy quickly, with 2 runs in the first. Castle Rock is actually lucky to get out of that first inning only giving up 2. Gregg hits a solo shot in the 3rd for Castle Rock to make it 2-1. But, Flossmoor lays into Pettitte in the 5th wtih homers from Bagwell (solo) and Gant (two-run). Flossmoor loses Bagwell for 13 games, which hurts. The teams trade runs, but Castle Rock doesn’t really threaten as Ashby gets the complete game in a 6-3 Flossmoor victory.

WP: Ashby (6-6)
LP: Pettitte (6-5)

Game #4: Flossmoor keeps putting out quality pitchers to start their games, but Castle Rock has run out of those, so we put Jose Bautista on the mound. Oh boy, do the Flying Squirrels go off. Flossmoor puts 13 runs across on Bautista with 19 hits total, including 4 from the legend,Eddie Taubensee. Final is 13-5 Flossmoor.

WP: Neagle (7-4)
LP: Bautista (6-6)

Game #5: Castle Rock finally gets to see just an average starter with Bones facing off against Rekar in the series finale. Rekar is cruising along through 8 innings without giving up a run. Meanwhile, Castle Rock gets to Bones with a two-run homer from Wallach in the 7th. Rekar closes out the complete game giving up only four hits and 0 runs. Final is Castle Rock 2-0.

WP: Rekar (6-6)
LP: Bones (3-9)

Series Summary: If I had to make a prediction before the series started, I would have gone with Flossmoor 3 and Castle Rock 2, and that’s exactly what happened. The Squirrels do get hit with the injury bug with Puckett and Bagwell going down (not often you see two hall of famers get injured in the same series).
Hampton Huskies @ Steel City Sluggers
Series Summary: Sluggers take the first three, then drop the final two.
Detroit Stars @ California Quakes
Series Summary: Detroit just kills California, taking all 5 and outscoring Cal 59-15 in 5 games. Ouch.
Montreal Dreamers @ Chicago Demolition
Series Preview: Chicago takes on the French Canadians from Montreal.
Game #1: Montreal has a 4 for 4 game from David Segui, Tim O’Leary is 3 for 4 with an RBI & Ron Darling gets a complete game.

Final Score: Montreal 8 – Chicago 1

Win: Ron Darling 4-7 (5.50)
Loss: Todd Stottlemyre 5-7 (3.34)

Game #2: Pedro Martinez throws a Complete Game Shut Out as The Demolition take down the Dreamers.

Final Score: Chicago 3 – Montreal 0

Win: Pedro Martinez 5-6 (3.16)
Loss: Jason Jacome 2-8 (7.32)

Game #3: Derrick May is 3 for 4 with 2 RBI’s for Chicago allows Roger Clemens to pick up his 4th win on the season for Chicago.

Final Score: Chicago 5 – Montreal 4

Win: Roger Clemens 4-8 (5.10)
Loss: Steve Parris 4-6 (3.61)
Save: Mike Timlin #15

Game #4: Dan Wilson is the man for Chicago going 3 for 4 with a Home Run & 2 RBI’s. Bobby Witt goes 6 Innings & picks up the win.

Final Score: Chicago 5 – Montreal 4

Win: Bobby Witt 4-8 (4.78)
Loss: Sid Fernandez 4-8 (3.89)
Save: Mike Timlin #16

Game #5: For the third straight game Chicago tops Montreal by a 5-4 score. This one is a 9th Inning Walk off for Chicago.

Final Score: Chicago 5 – Montreal 4

Win: Edwin Hurtado 3-0 (2.93)
Loss: Eddie Guardado 2-2 (3.80)

Series Summary: Chicago heads into the break tired and sore, but on a 4 game win streak.
Michigan Mauraders @ Manhattan Gas Hornets
Series Preview: Michigan (tied for 2nd in NL Central) vs. Manhattan (last NL East)….
Game #1: Charles Nagy (W 7-5) too much for Manhattan as the Marauders win 7-3. Bernie Williams 3 for 4 with double and homer (6) pace the attack.
Game #2: Scott Sanderson and Sterling Hitchcock end up in a pitcher’s duel in an amazing 1-0 win for the Gas Hornets. Hitchcock goes the distance giving up 3 hits (but 7 walks to go with his 7 Ks).
Game #3: Michigan bounces back for a 5-3 win as Bill Pulsipher goes 7 innings (W 5-3, 1 earned run). Cal Ripken gets his 2nd 3 rbi game of the series.
Game #4: Shawn Boskie continues his excellent pitching (W 7-5) as he goes 7 innings giving up 2 run in the 4-2 Manhattan victory. Cal Ripken is one 3 Maruaders who get 3 hits in the game – the team ended up with 13, but had 12 LOB!
Game #5: Teams were having so much fun with the series that they decided to play 12 inning for the finale. Michigan got single runs in the 6th and 7th to tie it up, then 4 scoreless innings followed the Gas Hornets put the winning run across in the 12th. Allen Watson – starter for Manhattan goes 2 for 3 with a run and rbi. Rafael Palmeiro gets 2 hits and drives in 3. Final score 5-4 Manhattan.
Series Summary: Gas Hornets win the series 3-2 and now head on the road to Winnipeg after the All-Star break.
