Game #3: Trailing 1-0 Fred McGriff puts the Panthers in front with a 2 run homer in the bottom of the first. Ft. Worth gets two more runs in the third to go up 4-1, but Flossmoor ties the game in the 4th – two of the 3 runs coming off a double by catcher Ron Karkovice. Ft. Worth wins 8-4
Game #4: Kirby Puckett doubles home two in the 8th to expand the Flying Squirrels lead to 4-0 and the Panthers are unable to come back despite Fred McGriff’s two run homer in the home half of the 8th.
Flossmoor wins 4-2

Bums score two in the 3rd and 3 in the 4th to make it a game again, Bombers 6-5. In the 5th Gates singled and Karros went deep, 8-5. Bums work it to bases loaded with 2-out in the 5th and Thomas whacked a 2-run single, 8-7. Karros lead off the 7th with a double and scored on a 2-out Nunnally dropped fly, 9-7.

Bums strike back in the bottom half with three straight singles, 2-1. After a Nunnally walk, White smacks a GRAND SLAM, 5-2 Bums still in the 1st. In the 3rd, guess who, yep Karros with a 3-run homer, 5-5. In the bottom half, Nunnally singled, MacFarlane doubled and Nunnally scored on a Gagne infield grounder, 6-5 Bums. Bums start the 4th with back-to-back-to-back doubles by Caminiti, Thomas and Sanders, 8-5. And Karros lead off the 5th with a triple, can’t stop him. But at least this time Castillo holds him there. Bombers Flaherty makes it a 2-run game in the 7th with a solo shot. With 2-out in the 7th, Karros drew a walk and Blowers then went deep, 8-8 Geez. In the bottom half, catch my breath, White lead off with a single, stole and scored on a Hubbard PH double, Bums 9-8. In the 8th Sanders scored on a passed ball to give the Bums a 2-run cushion, but Karros is fourth in line in the 9th. Karros doesn’t bat in the 9th, 2 straight games without getting out. Today just a single shy of the cycle.

Santa Rosa Beach 10 13 0 WP: Montgomery: 2b: Sanders (2), Caminiti, Thomas, MacFarlane, Hubbard; HR: White; Sb: White; S: Alomar
Game #4: Well the bullpens are pretty worn out by now. Things could get even crazier. Bombers send Moyer (6-4, 3.41) out to face Bums Finley (3-7, 5.03). And Finley started the game off with a double. No Karros, no score! No worries, Bombers Servais banged a 2-run shot in the 2nd. Bomber Miller records a solo shot in the 3rd, 3-0. Ramirez goes deep in the 5th, 4-0. Bums come alive in the bottom half as Finley singled, and embarrassed with a .242 BA Alomar goes deep, 4-2 Bombers.
Valdosta 4 8 0 WP: Moyer; 2b: Finley; HR: Miller, Ramirez, Servais; S: Franco.
Santa Rosa Beach 2 7 1 LP: Finley; 2b: Thomas; HR: Alomar.
Game #5: For the rubber match Bombers call on Quantrill (2-4, 5.74) and the Bums Bullinger (3-5, 4.32). Karros is back a drew a walk in the 1st. Streak continued. Karros popped out in the 3rd, but Sierra followed with a double, Bombers 1-0. In the 5th Bums Tarasco walked, Myers singled, both advanced on a Gagne ground out and advanced again on a White PH sac fly, 1-1. Quantrill walked the next wo to fill the bases and that was ‘big trouble’ as the ‘Big Hurt’ went deep for a GRAND SLAM, 5-1 Bums. Bombers Gates got his third hit of the day, tenth of the series with a solo shot in the 7th, 5-2. Tarasco banged an RBI single in the bottom half, 6-2. Ditto Bombers Colbrunn in the 8th, 6-3. Series Summary: Wow was it me or was that a wild series. Santa Rosa Beach comes away with a 3-2 series win.
Stockton Wings @ Hampton Huskies
Series Preview: Stockton and Hampton fight for scraps.
Game #1: Doug Drabek comes out of nowhere and tosses a complete game victory for Hampton as they down Stockton 7-3.

Jon Lieber fell to 0-5 of the year with no help from the defence as poor fielding by John Kruk and Otis Nixon contributed to three unearned runs.

A tough game for Stockton as Chris Donnels was knocked out for 10 days after running into the dugout chasing a foul ball.

Tony Phillips (12) homered for the Wings who were headhunted a couple of times by Drabek in the game with Darryl Hamilton taking one in the hip and Lance Johnson in the hand which knocked him out of the game.

Mark Lewis led the Hampton attack with a single and his first triple of the season and two RBIs.

Game #2: Taking Doug Drabek’s lead, Arthur Rhodes one-upped him by scattering six hits and tossing a shutout as the Huskies coasted to a 9-0 lead.

Rhodes (WTF?) evened his record at 2-2 with the win and the shutout lowered his ERA to 2.83 while Jason Schmidt (0-8) was pure crap allowing four runs on six hits and a couple of walks in just two innings. Ken Ryan took over from Schmidt and followed suit by giving up four runs of his own on six hits but over three innings. Ryan was a victim of the long ball giving up home runs to Jim Eisenreich (3) and Jose Hernandez (10). Eisenreich and Mark Lewis each had three hits for Hampton with Lewis getting two RBIs for the second straight day.

Game #3: Al Martin’s 2nd home run of the season was a big one as the Huskies got some clutch hitting from the outfielder in the bottom of the 11th when down one run with one out and one on, he sent Rich Garces fastball just inside the right field foul pole for a 9-8 Hampton win.

Hampton scored six runs in the 3rd off former Husky Jason Bere when they strung together six singles and a couple of walks which sent the righty to the showers after registering just 8 outs. The six-run inning gave them the lead briefly 6-2, but Stockton jumped all over Jeff Juden in the 6th with Jose Canseco (8), John Kruk (2) and Rick Wilkins (3) all homering.

The Wings led 7-6 heading into the bottom of the 9th but Mark Wohlers couldn’t hold the lead. Wohlers allowed a walk to Mickey Tettleton and the glacially-footed runner was replaced by Eric Young who scampered around to score on Chris Gomez’s double.

Martin had three hits on the day and drove in two runs to top the Hampton offense while Wilkins had four RBIs on a single and a homer for the Wings.

Game #4: Dave Mlicki outduelled Orel Hershiser as the Wings topped the Huskies 4-2.

Slap-hitting shortstop and future insano manager Ozzie Guillen led the way for the winners with three hits and two RBIs with another Hampton alumnus – Andujar Cedeno – chipping in with his first homer of the season. Todd Jones got the two-inning save but it was a sloppy one as he gave up a run on two hits and a walk.

Mlicki pitched seven solid innings and allowed just four hits with a touch of wildness walking four and fanning seven to improve to 3-4 with the win.

Game #5: Bobby Jones was sketchy in his start for Hampton, but the offense kicked into high gear and for the third time in the series scored nine runs in a 9-4 win in the final game.

To be fair, little could be blamed on Wings’ starter John Wasdin who left the game with two outs in the 7th and his team up 4-3. Enter Hector Carrasco who imploded between getting the final out in the 7th and first out in the 8th giving up three runs on two hits and a walk. Todd Jones provided some consistency by doing the exact same in his 2 outs of work turning the 4-3 lead into a 9-4 loss.

Tom Gordon benefitted from the meltdown by the Wings’ bullpen by almost evening his record to 3-4 and turning in two shutout relief innings. Jose Canseco (9) and Tony Phillips (13) each homered for Stockton for the second time in the series.

Dave Hollins knocked out homers number 3 and 4 for himself to lead Hampton. Hollins also doubled high off the right field wall narrowly missing a 3-homer day but he did finish with a none-too shabby 3/3 performance with three runs scored, two walks and six RBIs. Jim Eisenreich’s 7th inning double was the only other extra base hit for Hampton.

Series Summary: Hampton scores a ton of runs and takes four of five from visiting Stockton. Starting pitcher Jack McDowell was held out of action in the series and found his bags packed for him and a train ticket to Harper Woods where he was traded for a 3rd rounder and the Huskies’ new bat boy, Jose Oquendo.
Montreal Dreamers @ Castle Rock Hounds
Series Preview: Montreal comes into Castle Rock as two fairly mediocre teams face off. Castle Rock is near a wildcard position, but the management thinks that is probably smoke and mirrors this early in the season.
Game #1: Banks vs. Parris in Game 1. It is tight through 8 innings, but Montreal plates two runs in the top of the 9th off of Plunk and Ruffin, and the Dreamers take it 5-3.

WP: Guardado (1-0)
LP: Plunk (1-2)

Game #2: Another tight contest. The Hounds race out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning due to a Bonds 3-run homer. The Hounds add one more in the 7th to make it 4-0. Dreamers come storming back with 3 in the 8th, but that is all they could muster.

WP: Rogers (5-4)
LP: Fernandez (4-6)
S: Henke (10)

Game #3: Game 3 was a laugher, with Montreal controlling from start to finish in an 8-0 win. Jimmy Haynes dominated in one of the few starts that he will see this season, living up to his 22 grade. He goes a complete game, giving up only two hits! Montreal is lead by home runs from Segui and Sprague.

WP: Haynes (3-0)
LP: Pettitte (5-4)

Game #4: Montreal is looking to guarantee a series win with Belcher on the mound, who comes into the game 2-8 on the season. Castle Rock counters with the 6-4, Jose Bautista. Again, this one is all Montreal, as they get 17 hits on the game, including a 5-for-5 game from Troy O’Leary. The final is 7-3 Montreal. Clayton knocked out 3 games for Castle Rock.

WP: Tim Belcher (3-9)
LP: Jose Bautista (6-5)

Game #5: The final game of the series, and Castle Rock is looking to salvage something. They do get the win, but pay a price in injuries. Castle Rock loses Bragg (20 games) and Garcia (5) in the first inning. They get to Darling quickly and race out to a 6-2 lead only to see Montreal storm back and take a 7-6 lead. But, Castle Rock’s bats would not be held back today as they explode for 10 total runs, with Snow adding 2 homers.
WP: Benitez (1-0)
LP: White (0-2)
S: Henke (11)
Series Summary: Montreal takes 3 out of 5 from Castle Rock. The Hounds sit at 31-29 while Montreal improves to 23-37.
