Corktown Bootleggers @ Portland Mavericks
Series Preview:  Spring in Northwest Portland… the mist has cleared, and the bearded pasty skinned Portlanders head to the ballpark for the first game of 1995. The Mavs vs the Bootleggers.
Game #1:  Tied up 2-2 going to the 8th inning. Ramon Martinez going all the way for the Bootleggers. Burks singles to start the 8th for Corktown, but then gets thrown out stealing.
Portland loads the bases with 2-out in the ninth… and cleanup hitter Jeff Conine steps to the plate. Conine gets ahold of it… but it is just a load out. EXTRA EXTRA hear all about it!
In the 10th… Eliss B-B-B-Burks of the Bootleggerss says… buh buh BYE with a blast deep into the Portland night. Ka-Fu%!ing BOOM!!!
Portland can’t mount a rally in the bottom of the inning, and take their first, of likely many, losses on the season.

POR 7 CRK 2
Game #4:  Another extra-inning affair sees Portland battle back to tie the game in the 9ths, only to see Corktown step on the gas with 3 runs in the 10th for the win. Four dingers in the game for Corktown, which clearly likes to go downtown (become a theme in the series)
CRK 9 POR 6

POR 5 CRK 3

Cincinnati Outlaws @ Winnipeg Goldeyes
Series Preview:  The much anticipated birth of the Cincinnati Outlaws is finally here! The showdown in the first week is against Winnipeg and its strong pitching staff. Is it really baseball season in Cincinnati (or Winnipeg for that matter)?
Game #1:   WPG 2-5-1 CIN 1-3-0

The first game in Outlaws history goes down as an L, but it was not in embarrassing fashion. Mike Piazza opens the scoring and will get credit for Cincinnati’s first-ever run, coming home on a……dropped third strike wild pitch?!?!

Jay Buhner would double to left for Winnipeg to tie the game in the sixth and Edgardo Alfonso grounded into a fielders choice in the ninth to win it.

Game #2:  WPG 1-8-0 CIN 0-3-0

Omar Vizquel’s single to right in the eleventh scored Mark McGwire for the lone score of the game.

Game #3:  WPG 11-15-1 CIN 4-7-2

Mark McGwire hit a pair of home runs to blow this one open early. Jeff Branson’s homer in the bottom of the ninth was the first in Inferno history.

Game #4:  WPG 7-15-4 CIN 5-7-0

Jay Buhner drilled a pair of homers and McGwire added another to give the Goldeyes the lead from the start.

Game #5:  WPG 6-9-2 CIN 4-8-1

Paul Sorrento’s two-run homer in the first gave the Outlaws their first lead in 33 innings! Winnipeg battled back with a four run seventh to chase starter Scott Karl. Robin Ventura doubled in the go ahead run in the seventh and nailed a game-sealing blast in the ninth to close the scoring.

Series Summary:  Winnipeg starts the season 5-0, leading 22 of the innings against Cincinnati. The Outlaws go 0-5 to start the year and muster the lead for 11 innings.

The biggest takeaway is that either pitching is WAY out in front of hitting, or the offensive side of the ball in Cincinnati is horrific. The next 27 weeks will help determining which is which!
