Harper Woods strikes first as Chili Davis hits a two-run homer with two outs in the top of the 3rd. Squirrels tie it up with a pair in the fourth on RBI hits by Sanchez and Jose. | GAME #2 – Pedro Astacio 11-7 (3.44) vs. David Cone 17-3 (2.23)
Flossmoor gets a run in the first after Jose leads off with a double and comes home two batters later on Bagwell’s ground out. Bagwell adds another run in the 7th on a solo homer. That’s all the Squirrels need as Cone goes 8 shutout innings and McElroy handles the ninth. Flossmoor wins it 2-0 as the series heads to Harper Woods tied at one game apiece. | GAME #3 – Jimmy Key 12-7 (3.24) vs. Jon Lieber 10-7 (4.13)
Flossmoor strikes early and often, getting out to a 6-2 lead after five innings. Puckett, Baines, and Taubensee homer for the Squirrels. David Cone goes 8 innings allowing just the two runs and Flossmoor cruises to a 7-2 win. Final Score: Flossmoor 7 – Harper Woods 2 |
| GAME #4 – Ricky Bones 8-9 (4.70) vs. Bud Black 7-1 (3.36)
Both teams score twice in the first, but Flossmoor gets three in the fourth, while the Expos answer with one of their own. But the Squirrels add insurance runs in the seventh and ninth. Bones goes six and Maddux finishes the last three. Bagwell, Baines, and Fryman homer for Flossmoor and the Squirrels take a 3-1 series lead with a 7-3 win. Final Score: Flossmoor 7 – Harper Woods 3 |
| GAME #5 – Jason Grimsley 5-6 (6.66) vs. Mike Mussina 12-6 (2.85)
The Expos needing a win to stay alive score four in the bottom of the first. Flossmoor gets two back in the third, but Harper Woods answers with three in the bottom of the third to lead 7-2. Both teams get single runs in the sixth to make it 8-3. But Flossmoor puts up a four spot in the top of the 7th to cut the lead to 8-7. They head to the 9th still trailing by a run but Flossmoor gets two runs in the top of the 9th and David Cone closes it out for the Squirrels who win the final four games of the series and head to the ALCS.
