Series Preview:  Division rivals square off in the Skeeter Dome.
Game #1:  Butch Henry (7-3, 3.08) pitches seven three-hit innings and Jim Thome hits two homers (17) for an 8-0 Sugar Land win. Alou (14) also homers.
Game #2:  Griffey continues his amazing season with his 36th homer late as Sugar Land tries to rally but falls short, 4-3. Lofton and Ventura homer for Michigan.
Game #3:  Sugar Land gets eight runs on 11 hits in a balanced attack as no one has more than 2 hits, runs, or RBI. Alou gets homer #14. Buhner and McGwire homer for Winnipeg.
Game #4:  Three guys on the short end of platoons (Zambrano, Webster, and Pirkl) homer as Sugar Land wins easily, 8-2. Freeman (7-2, 5.65) gets the win.
Game #5:  Sugar Land falls behind early 5-1 off of grade 17 Ontiveros’ poor start, but the Skeeters get 6 in the 4th and 5 in the fifth and win going away, 12-8. Gibson (19) and Thome (18) homer. Alou falls a homer short of the cycle.
Series Summary:  Sugar Land wins four of five. Alou is 10 for 20 with 8 runs and six RBI (two homers).
Corktown Bootleggers @ Portland Mavericks
Series Preview:  The Corktown Bootleggers are welcomed whole heartedly to Portland to face the Mavericks, who are always looking for a good drink. Corktown sits at 27-38, while Portland is 37-28.
Game #1:  Corktown comes in jetlagged, or hung over. Probably both… as Portland cranks out 9 runs in the 4th inning, in route to the 16-0 win. Ken Hill goes all the way for the win.
Game #2:  Chuck Knoblach amounts for alll the Mavs offense going 3-4 with 2 RBI and 2 doubles. Yip yip hoorray!!! I MEAN HIP HIP horray… argh! Don’t let it get to you Chuck. Portland wins 3-1.
Game #3:  Portland pitching combines for a one hitter… with Aaron Sele going 7.2 giving up jthe sole hit. Portland wins 3-0.
Game #4:  Portland again has a big inning, this time eight runs in the 5th inning, as they cruise to the 9-3 win.
Game #5:  Corktown wakes up big time… scoring sixteen runs. Valentin goes 4-4 with 5 RBI and two HRs, and Belle is 4-6 with 2 HR. Portland starter Mahomes give s up 7 runs in just 3.2 innings. Final score., Corktown 16 Portland 6.
Series Summary:  Portland gets the 4-1 series and sits at 9 game above .5000, while Corktown is 11 games below, but Corktown has played 40 games on the road, and just 25 at home thus far.
Missouri Black Bears @ Long Beach Titans
Game #1:  Missouri broke open a pitchers duel when Garcia hit a bases loaded 3B in the 7th to give the Black Bears a 5-2 win. Garcia ended uo with 4 RBI.
Game #2:  This was a back and forth slug-fest that was decided when Fielder hit 3 run HR in the 7th giving Long Beach an 8-6 win. Piazza and Williams hit HRs for the visitors.
Game #3:  Missouri scored early and often and rolled to a 13-3 win. Bichette had 4 hits and Piazza 4 RBI to lead the 15 hit attack. Smith pitched 7 strong innings to pick up the win.
Game #4:  This time the Long Beach offense exploded in the 14-1 win. They hit 5 HRs. Hill led the way with 2 bombs and 4 RBI. Martinez has been struggling in the early part of the season but pitched 8 strong innings in this game.
Game #5:  Palacios threw a 5 hit complete game and the Titans won the last game of the series 5-1. Fielder had a HR and 3 RBI to lead the offense.
Series Summary:  In a series between two high scoring teams, Long Beach takes 3 of 5.
Blarney Drive Bandits @ Valdosta Bombers
Series Preview:  Two second division teams do battle in rainy south Georgia.
Game #1:  Valdosta 6-0. Mark Gubicza scattered 6 hits enroute to a CG shutout.
Game #2:  Valdosta 10-9 (12 Innings). Scott Servais homered in the bottom of the 12th off of Scott Service to walk it off for the Bombers.
Game #3:  Valdosta 3-2 (11 Innings). John Franco (1-6) picked up his first win of the year as the Bombers slip past the Bandits.
Game #4:  Valdosta 3-2. Bombers put a 3 spot on the board in the first off of Randy Johnson and once again slipped by by one run. Brad Cornett (1-2) got his first win.
Game #5:  Valdosta 4-2. Pat Hentgen got a rare win and John Franco saved his 13th of the year.
Series Summary:  Bombers sweep the 5 games and are 9-1 in their last 10 games. Blarney Drive will try and right the ship against Michigan next week.
Tennessee Crackers @ Michigan Mauraders
Series Preview:  Tennessee travels to Michigan to take on the Mauraders.
Game #1:  Michigan 6 Tennessee 2
Nagy goes to 10-1 with 6.2 strong innings. Howard Johnson hits his 4th homer of the season. Johnson and Palmeiro each with 2 RBIs.
Game #2:  Michigan 7 Tennessee 3
Kamieniecki tosses a solid 7 innings for the win. Bernie Williams knocks in 2 runs. Wilkens hits a homer for the Crackers.
Game #3:  Tennessee 10 Michigan 6
Jim Abbott goes to 7-2 for the Crackers. Walt Weiss with 3 hits and 3 RBIs. Dave Magadan knocks in 3 runs. Scott Brosius hits 2 homers for Michigan.
Game #4:  Michigan 4 Tennessee 3
Michigan with a comeback as they score 3 in the 8th to go ahead. Boever gets the win in relief. Bernie Williams hits a homer for Michigan. Jose Canseco hits his 20th Bomber for the Crackers.
Game #5:  Tennessee 6 Michigan 3
Lance Johnson leads the way with a triple and homer for the Crackers. Wilkins and Jefferson add homers for Tennessee. Palmeiro with a homer for Michigan. Danny Jackson earns the win.
Series Summary:  Michigan wins 3 of 5 from Tennessee.

Series Summary:  California sweeps the visiting Dreamers.
Hampton Huskies @ Germantown Grays
Series Preview:  Appears this series is between the two teams vying for the NL East pennent. Germantown welcomes the Hampton Huskies for a five game set.
Game #1:   The Huskies send McDowell (5-4, 3.56) to the mound to face Grays Vanlandingham (5-1, 3.44). Grays Thomas starts things off with a 2-out solo shot in the 1st. Grays MacFarlane ditto in the 2nd. Vanlandingham walks 5 in the first 3 innings, but the Huskies don’t capitalize. Huskies McRae, Young, and McDowell string 2-out singles in the 6th to make it a 1-run game and chase Vanlandingham. Grays answer in the bottom half. Abbott leadoff single, advanced on ground out and Mack stroked a double, 3-1.

Game #2:  Huskies counter with Jones (5-5) to the Grays Bullinger (6-0). Goose eggs until the 5th when Huskies Young singled, Morandini walked and Martin went the yard, 3-0. Grays respond in the bottom half. Tarasco, Gagne, and PH Pegues single for a run. After an Alomar walk, Tettleton bobbles a Mack dinger. And Thomas singled scoring PR Litton, followed by Alomar on a Martin miscue, Grays 4-3. Huskies come right back in their next at bat. Tettleton walked, advanced on a SAC and again on a grounder. McRae was intentionally walked and stole to get to Young who singled them home, 5-4 Huskies. Grays respond again in their next at bat. PH Brumfield drew a walk and a couple batters later Mack smacks a 2-run homer, 6-5. Grays add an insurance run in the 8th. Caminiti leadoff with a double, Sanders followed with a walk, and MacFarlane singled home Caminiti, Sanders to third. After PH Webster was intentionally walked, Abbott grounded to third scoring MacFarlane, 8-5.

Game #3:  Huskies go with Cy Young candidate Drabek (8-2) against last year’s winner Appier (3-2). In the 2nd Grays Caminiti reaches second on a two base error by Surhoff and scores by MacFarlane single. Huskies tie it in the v4th on back-to-back two baggers by Tettleton and Eisenreich. In the 7th Grays PH Brumfield doubled, Huff drew a walk, and Almoar laid one down and Tettleton threw it into left scoring one. With runners on second and third and no outs Thomas walked. Infield pulled in, Mack lifts it to center and scored Huff with Alomar advancing to third. Caminiti breaks the game open with a triple plating two. Huskies down, but not out as they score two in their next at bat with triples by Surhoff and Eisenreich and an error.

Game #4:  Huskies bring on Bere (4-4) versus Smoltz (4-4). Both line-ups beginning to show fatigue, but neither manager giving anyone a rest. Thomas again strikes first with a solo shot, Grays 1-0. Tettleton doubled to tie it in the 5th after a Martin single. In the 8th Tettleton walked Eisenreich singled, Gomez moved them over and McRae brought them home, Huskies 3-1.

Game #5:  In the finale Huskies Gordon (4-5) faced Grays Armstrong (0-0). In the 1st Mack singled, Thomas walked, and Caminiti banged an RBI single. Gordon uncorked one scoring Thomas, Grays 2-0. In the 3rd, Huskies Martin singled, advanced on a WP, and scored on a Tettleton single. In the bottom half Caminiti walked, Sanders was beamed, and Tarasco goes yard, 5-1 with 2-out. Thomas adds a 2-run double in the 4th.
