Series Preview:  Germantown is cruising to the season end with the expectations this is the year. Winnipeg has been disappointing as the expected quality starting would carry them but it just hasn’t. Winnipeg is below .500 with reaching par and getting playing time in the only season goal.
Game #1:  Candiotti has had a horrile year for the Winnipeg 13 as he is 4-12 with a 4.90 era. He was facing Appier the likely cy young is 19-1, Appier was as expected 7 innings 2 runs and Montgomery gets the save in this 5-3 Germantown win. Thomas drove in 2. Appier wins his 20th.
Game #2:  Curtis hits 2 doubles and a homer as Smoltz go 7 shutout innings in 1 9-1 Germantown win. Alomar had 3 hits.
Game #3: Alomar goes 4 for 4 and Finley throws a 6 hit shutout. Germantown 4 Winnipeg 0
Game #4:  Kile was solid for Winnipeg allowing 2 runs and Beck got the two inning save in this 4-2 Goldeyes win. Beck picked up the save.,
Game #5:  Thome homers and drive in 3 as Miranda improves to 9-3. Germantown 9 Winnipeg 1
Game #6:  A matchup of the god like Appier and the disappointing knuckleballer. Appier was great 1 run in 7 innings on 3 hits. The run scored on an Otis Nixon single. Amazingly Candiotti had it throwing a 3 hitter. Winnipeg 1 Germantown 0 W-Candiotti (5-12) L-Appier (20-2)
Game #7:  Winnipeg had two different injuries and an ejection but some how won 5-1.
Series Summary:  Germantown was up 4 games to 1 but Winnipeg managed to win the final 2 games.
Pitcher of the series: Appier 2 starts 3 runs in 14 innings just 7 hits 1-1 record but won his 20th. Germantown Magic number is now just 3!

Game #1:  The Panthers pounce on the Demolition for 21 hits winning easily 13 to 1. David Hulse went 2 for 5 extending his hitting streak to 22 games.

Game #2:  Delino DeShields gets a two out infield hit in the 6th to tie the game at 4 and Gary Sheffield breaks the time in the 7th with a solo home run. David Hulse extends his hitting streak to 23 games by getting one hit in 4 at bats.

Game #3:  Two crooked innings proved the difference as the Panthers took game 3. David Hulse hits another single to see his hitting streak reach 24 games.

Game #4:  Fred McGriff hit two doubles and drove in 4 while Gary Sheffield hit his 9th homer of the year as Ft. Worth turned a close 2-1 game into a blow out by scoring 6 runs over the 6th, 7th, and 8th innings. David Hulse extended his hitting streak with a double.

Game #5:  Roger Clemons pitched a CG shutout for Chicago allowing just 3 hits while striking out 9.

Game #6:  The Demolition got to Jim Abbott early scoring 5 runs over the first three innings highlighted by a two run home run by Derrick May. After a day off David Hulse hit two singles to extend his hitting streak to 26 games.

Game #7:  Bob Tewksbury pitches a 6 hit CG shutout for the Panthers while the offense scores 4 in the 7th to put the game away. David Hulse’s hitting streak reaches 27 games as he goes 1 for 3.

Steel City Sluggers @ Blarney Drive Bandits
Series Preview:  Steel City (54-80) take on a surging Bandit squad (76-58).
Game #1:  Butch Henry is lit up for 7 runs early but the Bandit slingers could not stop the slugger attack. Steel City plates 4 late to send it to extras. Blarney Drive wins it in the 10th but the Bandit skipper did not like that looks of that win and rightfully so as the rest of the series went south, quick.

Game #2:  Blarney comes out charging and holds a 9-2 lead after 3 frames. Steel City would plate 2 in the 6th, 2 in the 7th and 6 in the 9th to demonize the homies. Vaughn collects 4 rbi on a grand slam in the 9th and Hollins 3.

Game #5:  Each team pounds out 12 hits but Steel slugs 3 long-balls and wins a 3rd straight to officially be on a “winning streak”. Vaughn (2 rbi), Gilkey (3 rbi) and Listach (3 rbi) deliver the souvenirs.

Game #6:  The Bandits roll into game 6 bloodied badly. David Wells takes the hill and cauterizes the bleeding with 8 innings of shutout ball. Butch Henry injured for 8 days in the 4th.

Game #7:  Both pens, used extensively the whole series, were stretch to the limits in the 18 inning finale. Tied at 3 after regulation, the war of attrition was won by the Bandits. Blarney stranded 13 and Steel 9.

Valdosta Bombers @ Sugar Land Skeeters
Series Preview:  Playoff contender Sugar Land hosts last-place Valdosta hoping to gain ground towards securing a postseason berth.
Game #1:  Needing to get work in (READ: 45% usage) Kevin Tapani is hammered in a fairly short stint as Valdosta wins the opener, 7-4. Light-hitting Tom Pagnozzi hits two HR.
Game #2:  Alou and Griffey (solo HR, 32) get the RBIs and Tommy Greene pitches a 4-hit CG shutout. SLS wins, 2-0.
Game #3:  Second straight shutout, this one by Alvarez, as SLS wins, again 2-0.
Game #4:  Third straight shuout, a 3-hitter by Langston, 3-0 win this time. Biggio drives in all three runs with a single and 2-run homer.
Game #5:  Thome and Dion James each drive in two as SLS wins, 6-3.
Game #6:  Griffey (33) and Parent (1) get solo homers but it’s tied at 4 in the bottom of the ninth when Gibson singles in Merced for a walk off, 5-4 SLS victory.
Game #7:  Daulton’s 3-run bomb is the big hit as SLS holds on for a 4-3 win. Greene pitches 1.1 shutout innings before getting injured.
Series Summary:  Sugar Land drops the opener and then the pitching kicks in, getting 28 straight scoreless innings and three shutouts. Then wins a couple of other close ones to win 6 of 7.
California Quakes @ Corktown Bootleggers
Series Preview:  1 Team on top the AL East and other on the bottom.
Series Summary:  California doesn’t even sweat as they take all 7 games scoring 51 runs.  7-0 California
Stockton Wings @ Portland Mavericks
Series Preview:  The Stockton Wings visit the Portland Mavericks. The Mavs fighting for a wild card spot.
Game #1:  Portland explodes for 5 runs in the 8th inning to get the 9-4 win.

Series Summary:  Portland gets the win 3-2 in a close series. Ft. Worth and Portland are tied for the wildcard sport in the AL. Portland heads to division leading Mexico City next, while Ft Worth heads to last place Corktown. With FW visiting basement dwellers and Portland facing two division leaders, it will be a very tough road for Portland.
Detroit Stars @ Flossmoor Flying Squirrels
Series Summary:  Yet another disappointing series for Flossmoor who takes 4 of 7 but their offense continues to struggle for reasons unknown.
Derek Bell had a three homer, 7 RBI game for the Stars in the series lone blow out.
Missouri Black Bears @ Manhattan Gas Hornets
Series Preview:  1st place Missouri reaches Manhattan with the goal of padding their lead over Sugar Land. Not sure Manhattan can do much to stop their goal ….
Game #1:  Gas Hornets get a 5-2 lead and then hang on for 5-4 win.

Game #4:  Hmmm, 7-1 again, but McDowell gives up 5 hits. Then 5 relievers finish the game. 4 of them pitch the 9th, all itchy, and they combine for 3 Ks. Piazza 3 hits, Williams and Cedeno 2 hits and 2 rbis each.

Game #6:  So, Gas Hornets get more than 1 run – 2 of them – so the Black Bears get 9. Piazza hits #27 plus 2 singles for 4 rbis to lead the way. Rogers goes 7.1. 5 hits 2 runs. Cordero hits a 2 run homer (6).

Game #7:  Final game of the series and the Gas Hornets match their game 1 output of 5 runs – and 13 hits. But that was nowhere near enough to match the 13 runs by Missouri. 4 run 3rd, 6 run 7th. Only 1 Black Bear homer, Kruk (12). But Renteria, Bonds, Kruk, Piazza and Belcher each get 2 rbis. VanderWal goes 4 for 4 for Gas Hornets and homers (5). Belcher finally gets win #1 for the year.
