Series Preview:  With the division all but decided, Germantown entertains the Steel City Sluggers to a seven game series. The Grays lead the series 10 games to 4.
Game #1:  The series opener was a nail biter. Grays Appier was on mowing down Bandit batters for 8IP allowing 0R on 2H 1W w/ 5K. Montgomery’s fresh arm was needed in the 9th to quell a Bandit rally, but he finished the game with the tying run in scoring position for his 33rd save. Sluggers Maddux and Holmes pitched 2 innings of scoreless relief. Grays Litton 2-4 2R 2b and Sanders 3-4 2RBI. Grays 3-2.
Game #2:  Sluggers took a 3-2 lead in the 6th on a Hollins 2-run homer only to see Grays Gagne 1 up himin the bottom half. Sluggers Sandberg 2-4, Girardi 2-3 and Hollins 2-4 R 2RBI 2b HR. Davis and Maddux pitched 2.1 innings of scoreless relief. Grays Curtis 2-5 R, Thomas 2-5 RBI, McRae 2-4 R, Gagne 2-4 R 3RBI HR, and Caminiti 2-3 2R 2RBI 2HR W. Smoltz 6IP 2R 6H 2W 7K. Aguilera, Hernandez and Montgomery (S34) three scoreless.
Game #3:  Sluggers take an early 2-0 lead on an O’Brien single. Grays scratch their way back to tie it and win in the 11th. Sluggers Javier 2-5 2b, Vaughn 2-4 R W, and O’Brien 2-3 2RBI. Game #5:  The only game that wasn’t decided in the later innings. Sluggers Sandberg 2-5 2b and Gilkey 3-4 2RBI 3b. Davis pitched 2.1 innings of scoreless relief. Grays Curtis 2-4 R 2b, Gagne 2-4 R,and Appier 2-3 R RBI. Appier didn’t have his stuff but managed to keep the Sluggers at bay when it counted stranding 10 went 8IP 1ER 9H 3W 4K. Game #6:  Smoltz felt the brunt of the Sluggers frustration being tagged for a 2-run Grace HR (2-5 2R 2RBI HR) and a Vaughn 3-run HR (2-4 R 3RBI 2b HR). Swindell got his revenge 8IP 2R 10H 3W 3K. Sluggers 3DP. Sluggers 6-3.

Game #2:  MICHIGAN 5-0 Scott Kamieniecki goes 8.1 giving up 7 hits and 5 walks and NO RUNS. Bernie Williams with 3 hits leads the 14 hit attack.
Game #3:  MICHIGAN 8-1 Frank Tanana goes the distance giving up 5 hits for the win. Chris Hoiles (20) and Gary Gaetti (4) homer.
Game #4:  MANHATTAN 4-3 Home team finally wins one. Tino Martinez 3 hits (no triple) leads the way with a double and homer (10) and 2 rbis.
Game #5:  MICHIGAN 6-1 Mauraders back in control as Juan Guzman goes 6 yielding 4 hits and 1 run for the win. Rafael Palmeiro (20), Cal Ripken (12) and Brady Anderson (4) go over the wall.
Game #6:  MICHIGAN 11-5 Both teams crank out 13 hits, but 5 of the Mauraders hits couldn’t be contained within the park. Brett Boone (7), Rafael Palmeiro (21), Chris Hoiles (21) and Cal Ripken (2 hrs, 13, 14). Ripken another 4 rbi game.
Game #7:  MANHATTAN 5-0 Ron Darling tosses 4 hitter! Tino Martinez (12) homers and drives in 2, Dave Magadan (5) also sends one out.
Series Summary:  Michigan easily takes the series 5-2 with tons of hitting and some deft pitching. Next week both teams are home – Michigan to host Sugar Land and Manhattan to host Steel City.

Series Preview:  The 70-36 Flossmoor Flying Squirrels, visit the 61-48 Portland Mavericks. Mavs trying to stay alive in the AL Wildcard hunt, while the Squirrels aspire for the top of the AL West.
Game #1:  Cone has a no-hitter going for the Squirrels until 2 out in the 3rd, but walks the bases loaded, and then Blauser gets the first hit for the Mavs… a big 3-run triple.
Squirrels counter in the 5th with 3 runs of their own to tie it up. Gant pops a dinger to give Squirrels the lead in the 6th.
In the bottom of the 7th Cone walks off the mound with an injury (5 days).
Portland still trails 3-4 in the bottom of the 9th, but load the bases with one out and .304 hitting Jeff Conine at the plate. Greg Olson fans Conine, but Kevin Stocker slaps a two-run walk off single for the Mav win.

Game #2:  Jose Rijo is the real deal-o in this one, shutting down the Mavs completely with a 2-hit shutout for the easy 5 run win.

Game #3:  Flossmoor opens the scoring with a solo shot by Gant, but Portland answers with a 2-run shot from Carter, and the Smith hits a solo shot next to give Portland 3-1 vs their nemesis Greg Maddux.
Flossmoor has a bit 5th to take the lead 4-3, and they coast to the 5-3 win.

Game #4:  Wilkins his a 2-run HR in the first for Portland, and Wagner pitches a complete game gem as Portland gets the 4-1 win.

Game #5:  This time it is Blauser with the 2-run HR in the first for Portland. Three more runs in the 2nd knock Gott out of the game. Jeff Conine his a grand slam in the 3rd as Portland scores 2-3-4 in consecutive innings. BUT, The Squirrels become restless and strike back closing gap to just one run after 6. Portland hangs on for the one-run win.

Game #6:  Billy Hatcher breaks Portland’s heart with a 3-run HR in the 9th inning to give the Squirrels the 5-4 lead, but Flossmoor piles on 3-more runs to win 8-4.

Game #7:  Fryman leads off with HR for Squirrels. This one goes back and forth, and Portland starts to pull away with 3 runs in the 6th to lead 7-3. Hatcher goes down with injury to Flossmoor in the 9th inning. (6 days).

Series Summary:  Portland squeaks another series win vs the top teams in the AL. Portland stands at 65-51, while the Squirrels are an elite 73-40. Flossmoor heads to Detroit next, while Mexico plays Cali, so Squirrels may be able to get a few games on Mexico next week. Portland heads to Janesville.
