Series Preview:  Series played prior to Hurricane/Tropical Storm Harvey arriving in San Antonio.

A struggling Long Beach team comes to Michigan. The Marauders are in 2nd place.

Game #1:  Michigan 6 Long Beach 5

Palmeiro and Hoiles go deep for Michigan. Cal Ripken wins the game in the bottom of the 9th with a single. The Titans scored 3 in the 8th, as Juan Samuel hits a homer. The win goes to Boever in relief. West takes the loss.

Game #2:  Michigan 7 Long Beach 6

Michigan hangs on to the win as the Titans score 1 in the 9th. Henneman picks up the save for Bob Wickman. Dwight Smith hits a homer for the Titans. Burnitz and Brett each with 2 RBIs. for Michigan.

Game #3:  Long Beach 19 Michigan 1

Ouch! Long Beach recovers from 2 one-run losses and hit everything in site. Mesa throws a solid 6 innings for the Titans. Ed Sprague goes 4 for 6 and has 6 RBIs. Nilsson and Justice each add 3 RBIs.

Game #4:  Michigan 4 Long Beach 2

Jim Deshaies with a solid 6 innings. His record is now 5-1. Boever and Henneman pitch well in relief. Dave Justice hits a 2 run homer in the loss for the Titans.

Game #5:  Long Beach 4 Michigan 3

Michigan blows a 3-1 lead as the Titans score 3 unanswered runs. Mark Clark records his first win of the season. Voigt with the 2 run double. Smith adds a homer. In the loss, Brett has a double, triple, and homer.

Series Summary:  Michigan wins the series 3 games to 2. Sprague had a great game when he was responsible for 6 RBIs.
Winnipeg Goldeyes @ Sugar Land Skeeters
Series Preview:  Sugar Land hoping to continue their good start against inter-division rivals Winnipeg.
Game #1:  Sugar Land scores three in the first highlighted by Alou’s three-run bomb and never trails winning 6-3. Griffey also has a solo shot, his 8th already. Danny Jackson goes seven strong for the win and Poole gets the save.
Game #2:  Sugar land again scores early with two in the second but Winnipeg fights back to tie it. Pecota hits the game-winning single to drive in White for the 3-2 win. Poole gets his second straight save. Thome is HBP and injured for 23 in just his second start off the DL.
Game #3:  Sugar land gets one in the fourth off Schilling and Alvarez cruises with 8 shutout innings despite six walks (only one hit allowed). Gibson gets a 3-run homer to put the game out of reach and Sugar land wins 5-0.
Game #4:  Sugar Land scores early and often and wins 16-2. Every starting hitter scores a run and gets a hit, and only Merced doesn’t get an RBI. Homers by Greene (the pitcher, his second),Biggio (2), Griffey (9), Pags(3). Greene is 4-1 with six strong innings. McElroy gets the mopup 3-inning save.
Game #5:  A nail biter and Langston and Glavine duel. Neither figures in the decision as Alou gets the walkoff double, driving in Daulton (who scored both runs for SLS).
Series Summary:  Sugar Land gets the early-season sweep of a division rival, with three of the five games close.
Blarney Drive Bandits @ Valdosta Bombers
Series Preview:  The Bombers are riding a franchise record 16 game losing streak.
Game #1:  Blarney Drive:3-0. Erik Hanson tosses a nifty 1 hit shutout.
Game #2:  Blarney Drive 6-4. David Wells picks up his 1st win of the year with 6 2/3 IP.
Game #3:  Blarney Drive 8-0. Randy Johnson allowed just 2 hits in 8 IP as the Bandits win easily.
Game #4:  Blarney Drive 9-2. Eddie Murray homered twice as the Bandits win yet again.
Game #5:  Blarney Drive 5-2 (11 Innings). Troy Neel (who?) hit a PH 3 run HR in the 11th to send the Bombers home losers again.
Series Summary:  Bandits sweep and the Bombers misery continues as their losing streak has now run to a ridiculous 21 games. We really aren’t that bad are we?

Series Preview:  Germantown is off to a fast start, will it continue versus the Black bears.
Game #1:  The Grays take a 3-2 lead in the 4th, then it’s all Black Bears. Black Bears Cedeno 2-4 2R W 2Sb, Garcia 2-5 RBI 2b, Galarraga 2-4 R 2b IBB, and Gonzalez 2-5. Henke and Wetteland pitched 2.1 innings of scoreless relief. Grays Gagen 3-3 R RBI 2b. Muholland 5IP 2R 7H 2W.

Game #2:  Goose eggs into the 10th until a walk-off solo shot by Sanders. Black Bears McDowell 8.2IP 0R 3H 1W 5K. Grays Alomar 2-4 and Sanders 2-4 RBI HR. Grays 1-0 in 10 innings.
Game #3:  Black Bears scored early again and took control in the middle innings. Black Bears Gonzalez 3-4 2R RBI 2b HR Sb. Portugal 7IP 2R 7H 3W 0K. Grays Alomar 2-4 R 2b and Gagne 3-3 R 3b W. Assenmacher, Montgomery and Hernandez pitched 2 innings of scoreless relief. Black Bears 6-3.
Game #4:  Grays held a 3-0 lead through 4, but the Black Bear pounced in the middle innings. Black Bears Cedno 2-5 R 2RBI 2b, Garcia 2-5 R 3RBI 2b HR, Galarraga 2-5 2b, Gonzalez 2-4 2b, and Belcher 2-2 RBI. Krueger, Lloyd and Foster pitched 2.2 innings of scoreless relief. Grays Curtis 2-5 R, Alomar 2-5 RBI 2-2b, and McRae 2-4 R 2-2b. Black Bears 7-4.
Game #5:  Black Bears crawled their way to a 3-1 lead which was held through 7 before the Grays tied it in the 8th. Black Bears Garcia 2-6, Galarraga 2-6 RBI, and Bichette 2-6 RBI 2b Sb. Rogers 6IP 1R 4H 2W 7K. Henke, Eichhorn, Lloyd, Wetteland, and Perez pitched 6.2 innings of scoreless relief. Grays Curtis 2-6 R 2b W and Gagne 2-5 W. Assenmacher, Hernandez, Montgomery and Miranda pitched 8 innings of scoreless relief. Grays 4-3 in 15 innings.
Series Summary:  Black Bears solidly take 3 while the Grays squeeze out 2 extra inning wins. No batters stood out, but Grays Gagne did go 8-15 2R RBI 2b 3b W. Pitching performance was close with Grays Appier throwing 9.1 innings of shut ball for a score of 84 and Black Bears McDowell 8.2 innings for a score of 82.
