Game #5:  Winnipeg completes the nail biter 4-3 in 10 innings, however Barbarie got injuried for 10 games.
Series Summary:  Winnipeg turned things around with the sweep to reach .500. A crazy number of injuries though for Winnipeg as 5 different players were hurt, although no DL will be required as Roberts and Barbarie will only miss most of next series. Valdosta is in a real spin losing 15 in a row.
Jay Buhner was the big hitter in the series as he went 6 for 17 with 3 homers and 11 rbis.

Corktown Bootleggers @ Janesville Juggernauts
Series Preview:  Corktown visits Janesville for a quick five game match up.
Game #1:  Game 1 is all Janesville as Cormier pitches a 3 hit shutout, allowing the Juggernauts to win 9-0.
Game #2:  The Juggernauts bats continue to wake, scoring 12 runs on 9 hits as they take game two 12-5.
Game #3:  Jack Armstrong turns in his finest performance yet, winning his first game of the season as the Juggernauts take game three 7-0.
Game #4:  The Bootleggers get on the win board, as the chase Wakefield in the 4th inning, and go on to win 7-3. Valenzuela gives Corktown a quality start, and goes to 3-0 on the young season.
Game #5:  The last game of the series is the closest one, with the Juggernauts getting a walk off home run from Tartabull in the bottom of the ninth to win it 6-5. Sosa hits a Grand Slam for Janesville as well.
Series Summary:  The Juggernauts roll to a 4-1 series win behind some good pitching and hitting. Next up for Janesville is a road trip to the first place Fort Worth Panthers, while the Bootleggers stay on the road visiting Detroit.
Sugar Land Skeeters @ Manhattan Gas Hornets
Series Preview:  Well the home town Manhattan crowd was lifted after last weeks series with Long Beach, but will their hopes still be high after Sugar Land comes to town – I’m thinking not, but I am an optimist.
Game #1:  Teams trade 2 runs each in the 1st. then it’s 4-4 after 4 and 5-5 after 8. And it’s that way through the 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th, 13th, 14th and 15th. Teams got tired in the 16th and flipped baseball cards to determine the winner. Gas Hornets got the win. Actually a with a runner on 1st and 2 outs, Hoffman throws a wild pitch – Fermin gets to 2nd. Santiago then lines one to the gap in left and Fermin scored easily. Crowd ecstatic as Gas Hornets move to 10-10.
SLS 5-14-0 LP Hoffman (0-1) 16 INNINGS
MGH 6-10-2 WP Bohanon (2-1)
HRs: SLS – Biggio (1); MGH – Shipley (1), he also tripled. Alou and Pags had 4 hits each (but that’s nothing, wait for a later game!)
Game #2:  After Gas Hornets get out to a 2-0 lead after 3, Polonia scores after hitting a double and a triple, the Skeeters take over. They wait until the 6th but then crank out 4 in the 6th and 3 in the 7th (add 2 more in the 9th for the heck of it). Griffey hits his 7th homer and drives in 3. Bell hits 2 doubles (3 hits) and drives in 5! Langston goes all the way.
SLS 9-11-0 WP Langston (4-0)
MGH 2- 7-0 LP Smith (0-1)
Game #3:  OK – this is that later game referenced above. Skeeters unload 22 hits in this game. Blowers cracks solo shot (2) among his 3 hits. Gibson drives in 4 with his 2 hits. White gets 3 hits, but … wait for it … Jay Bell (still scratchin’ his head over Manhattan losing him to free agency – maybe smiling??) – in this game he goes 7 for 7 (yup 7 hits in a 9 inning game).
Oddity – all seven were singles! Moved his average to .379.
Danny Jackson went 6 for the win – 5 hits, 2 runs and Sugar Land wins 16-2.
SLS 16-22-0 WP Jackson (1-1)
MGH 2- 6-1 LP Ashby (1-2)
Game #4:  Ah – but things can turn around – and Manhattan plates 4 in the 1st off Tapani including back-to-back HRs from Kreuter (2) and Tino (2). But in the 3rd the Skeeters get half of those runs back. In the 5th, relief pitcher Tommy Greene hits a homer (1) to make it 4-3 Gas Hornets. In the 7th they tie it and in the 10th Blowers goes over the wall (3) off Harris to win the game for Sugar Land. Poole pitches the final two innings of the game for the win.
SLS 5-10-0 WP Poole (1-0) 10 innings
MGH 4-10-3 LP Harris (1-1)
Game #5:  As if two extra inning games weren’t enough, the Skeeters and Gas Hornets give the fans 5 innings of free baseball in this one (or 5 innings of futility). Karsay goes 7 innings, 9 hits, 1 run – Gas Hornets couldn’t get anything to cross the plate after Cole did it in the 2nd. Hershiser meanwhile seemed even better. He goes 10 innings giving up 6 hits and 1 run – and that run was an 8th inning game tying homer by Daulton (4).
Then things settled down until the 14th when Moises Alou connects for a solo homer (1) off Rick Reed and that ended up as the game winner.
SLS 2- 8-0 WP Carpenter (1-1) 14 INNINGS
MGH 1-11-2 LP Reed (0-1)
Game #6:  This one looked more like what you’d expect – Skeeters just kept gnawing away at the weak pitchers for Manhattan. They got 15 hits and scored 8 runs. Stated with a single run in the 3rd, then 2 in the 6th, 1 in the 7th and the coup de grace game in the 4 run 8th. Alou got 4 hits, Griffey and Blowers drove in 2 each, Bell got two more hits – having a great week. Langston lost the shutout in the 8th on a Fermin double.
SLS 8-15-0 WP Langston (5-0)
MGH 1- 5-0 LP Bohanon (2-2)
Game #7:  4 Skeeters score in the 1st – and Gas Hornets take advantage of some early control issues from Greene and score 3 in their half. 3rd innings it’s 2 for Sugar Land and 1 for Manhattan – Gas Hornets need to win these exchanged but keep falling short. 2 in the 4th and 6th for Skeeters pretty much end it. Merced goes 4 for 5 (double) and drives in 4. Biggio gets 3 hits and scores twice. 4 more guys get 2 hits each. Gibson not happy, only starter not to get a hit (besides Greene). Greene settled down on the mound.
SLS 11-17-0 WP Greene (3-1)
MGH 5-12-0 LP Darling (0-3)
Series Summary:  So after winning the 1st, the Gas Hornets drop 6 straight to the Skeeters (not surprising). Bell hits .395 for the week with 15 hits (12 singles) and drives in 9.
NEXT WEEK: Sugar Land host Winnipeg; Manhattan goes to Steel City.
