Game #1:  FWP 2 – STO 1

Both starting pitchers were dealing, as a run didn’t score until the 5th inning, when Darren Lewis drove in Brian Hunter with a double. In the 7th, Fort Worth finally got to Astacio with RBI hits from McGriff and Winfield. Smith and Austin slammed the door after that.

Fort Worth suffered an early blow as Tim Hulett was lost for the series when he collided with DeShields going for a first inning pop-up.

Game #2:  STO 3 – FWP 0

HR: STO–Walker

Drabek continued his late-season excellence as he shut down Fort Worth, giving up only two hits. Barry Larkin continued his hot postseason, going 2-4 with two RBI.

Game #3:  STO 3 – FWP 1

LP: Abbott
SV: Eckersley

HR: STO–Larkin

Larkin again went 2-4 with a pair of RBI, and Mussina went seven strong. Eckersley struck out two in a six out save. Tettleton 

Game #4:  FWP 6 – STO 4 (14 inn.)

HR: STO–Tettleton, Hayes; FWP–E. Martinez, Sheffield

Stockton jumped out to an early 4-0 lead after two innings, but Fort Worth came roaring back with two in the 5th, and one each in the sixth and seventh. Both bullpens were excellent from then on until the 14th inning, when Fort Worth touched a gassed Eckersley (pitching his third inning of the game and fifth in two days) for two runs on Winfield’s double that scored Sheffield and Edgar Martinez. Edgar was the hitting star of the day, going 3-6 with three runs scored, two RBI, a HR and a double.

Game #5:  STO 3 – FWP 0

WP: Astacio (CG)
LP: Z. Smith

HR: none

Astacio got revenge for his Game 1 loss, scattering four hits and striking out five. Larkin and Tettleton continued to come up big for Stockton, and Grissom and Chili Davis both went 2-4.

Game #6:  STO 7 – FWP 1

WP: Mussina CG)
LP: Tewksbury

HR: STO–Anthony, Larkin, Grissom

Stockton jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the 2nd inning on an RBI double by Hrbek and a 3-run HR by Eric Anthony. Larkin and Grissom hit solo shots, and Hrbek added a SF to cap the scoring and ice the win for Stockton. Mussina struck out six in the complete game, series-clinching victory

Series Summary:  Stockton wins the series 4 games to 2
Stockton had excellent starting pitching in the series and timely HR hitting. They outhomered Fort Worth 7-2. Stockton also had three CG wins in the series.
Mike Mussina had two wins, 16 IP, and 8 strikeouts.
Barry Larkin hit .280 (7-25), with 4 runs scored, 5 RBI, 2 doubles, 2 HRs, a triple, SB, and a walk.
For Fort Worth, Dave Winfield had the game-winning RBIs in their two victories.
