Pete Harnisch (13-7 3.39) goes 6 Innings, John Valentin has 4 RBI’s as the Quakes shake things up on the Demolition by 7.

Blarney Drive visits Valdosta for a 5 game set.
Summary:
The Bandits threw out a bunch of starting pitchers rated 1-4, which had the Bombers feeling pretty good about the series. Instead, the Bombers hit a season low, as they are swept in all 5 games…yuck!

 

Long Beach  Titans @ Winnipeg  Goldeyes

Two teams is the very tough NL west go at it. Long Beach vs Winnipeg
Game #1:
Glavine got the call for Winnipeg and hard luck navarro went for Long Beach. It was all Winnipeg Ventura hit a homer and 4 rbis in the 8-2 win.

Game #2:
Winnipeg pinch hitters drove in 6 of the 7 runs as Winnipeg easily wins 7-0.

Game #3:
Justice hit two homer and one by Oliver off the Winnipeg ace Schilling. Smith the 18 wasn’t great allowing 4 runs but good enough for the 5-4 Long Beach win.
W-Smith(4-1) L-Schilling(10-6) bad injury for Fielder 3 games and James 11 games.
Game #4:
Tough extra inning loss for Winnipeg as Ventura gave Farr a blown save tying the game 1-1 but Rojas gave up a run int he 10th to Baerga. LB 2 Sel 1.

Glavine was great again winning 3-1. Viola took the tough lass.

This time it was Winnipeg and Howell blowing the save allowing LB to tie the game 2-2 but this time it was Winnipeg winning the game in thier final atbat 3-2.

Deveraux back from Injury made Perez pay as Winnipeg wins game 7 5-2.

Summary:
Winnipeg continues to play much better at home as they win 5 of the 7 game. Winnipeg will look at firing Soprano and go with a steadier hand like Miller. The strong Winnipeg bench and pen has not been used much on the road so that may be a reason for the huge difference in Home road record. Glavine went 2-0 pitching 15 innings allowing just 3 runs. Long Beaches Justice was the best hitter with 3 homers.

 

Steel City  Sluggers @ Sugar Land  Skeeters
Preview
Steel City (54-40) visits last-place Sugar Land, hoping to feast on a cellar dwellar and cement their playoff position.
Summary:
Steel City wins the opener, then drops the last four, dropping to 54-44 and losing some playoff ground. The door is open for Winnipeg to sneak in.

Charles Nagy wins his 12th game of the year. Plesac finishes up the game for his 2nd save. Gaetti knocks in 2 runs. 3 of the Michigan runs are unearned.

12 runs in the first 4 innings for the Black Bears. Andy Van Slyke goes 5 for 5! With 6 runs batted in. Give him the MVP. Scott Fletcher adds 4 RBIs.

Gaetti and Palmeiro hit homers for the home team. Dennis Powell with the win in relief. Van Slyke with 3 hits for Missouri.
Game #4:
Michigan 6 Missouri 5
Mitch Webster comes off the bench and goes 2 for 2. Plesac win his 3rd game in relief. Kevin Gross gives up 5 unearned runs – ouch.
Game #5:
Michigan 5 Missouri 0
Brett Boone with a 3 run homer. Gullickson throws a 3 hit shutout.
Game #6:
Missouri 2 Michigan 0
Smiley and 3 bullpen guys shutdown Michigan. Barry Bonds with a 2 run homer in the 9th to win the game! Nagy pitches 8 innings of 1 hit ball, but at least doesn’t lose the game.
Game #7:
Michigan 3 Missouri 2 (10)
Bonds with a solo to go along with 2 other hits. But, Michigan pulls out the game in the 10th. Pat Borders and Mitch Webster hit homers.
Summary:
Michigan plays just well enough to take 5 of 7. Bonds and Van Slyke play well for Missouri.

 

Mexico City  Chihuahuas @ Portland  Mavericks
Preview
The Mexico City Chihuahuas, 52-37 in first place in the AL West, visit the second place Portland Mavericks 45-46. Portland needs a big series to have much of a chance at catching those pesky dogs.
Game #1:
Portland explodes for 6 runs in the bottom of the 7th after trailing 2-1. Keith Miller went 4-5 for Portland.
Game #2:
Mexico City takes the lead 1-0 after one, but Portland gets two in the 4th on a Zupic singe, and then both offense dry up. Portland escapes with the 2-1 win. Fernandez goes all the way for the
Chihuahuas.
Game #3:
Another barn burner in Portland, but this time it is the Chihuahuas that celebrate after a Damon Berryhill solo HR in the 10th.
Game #4:
Charlie Hough of Mexico City gets revenge on his old team, pitching a brilliant 4 hit shutout. Chihuahuas win 4-0.
Game #5:
And big inning by Portland nets them 5 runs in the 5th, and Portland pitchers hold Mexico City to just 4 hits as Portland wins 5-1.
Game #6:
Casey Candaele of all people, gets the walk off single for Portland as Portland beats Bill Swift for the second time in the series.
Game #7:
A little feistiness in this one, as Joe Carter gets beaned in the head after Portland takes the early 3-0 lead. Danny Darwin was ejected on the play, but Portland gets the win 5-0. Fleming goes all
the way for Portland to get the shutout.
Summary:
Portland needed a big series, and they got one, clawing to just 5 games back with around 65 games left in the season.
