Game #1:
Grand slam by Kelly keyed a five run 4th. Ft. Worth wins 6-2
Game #2:
Carter hits two home runs for the Portland – the 2nd one coming with two outs in the 9th. Portland wins 5-4
Game #3:
After the Mavericks pull within a run in the top of the 8th. Kelly hits a two run homer in the bottom half to put the game away. It was the third straight day he had hit a home run. Ft. Worth wins 7-4
Game #4:
Panthers score 3 in the first and never looked back. McGriff hit two homers. Ft. Worth wins 6-1
Game #5:
Pitching and defense ruled this one. The two teams combined for only 13 hits and the Mavericks had 4 double plays. Unfortunately the Panthers scored on one of those DP’s and got another run from a single by Anderson. Ft. Worth wins a tight one 2-1
Summary:
Ft. Worth wins 4 of 5 against Portland.

 

Michigan  Marauders  @ Blarney Drive  Bandits
Preview
The Marauders make a short trip to Davison, MI to take on the in-state rival.
Game #1:
MIC 3 BDB 0
Nagy shuts-out the Bandits and drives in a run to boot. Williams jacks one out for the visitors.
Game #2:

Kamieniecki gets hit hard in the middle innings and scatters 16 base-runners. Hoiles hits one out and Ripken collects 2 hits. Daryl Hamilton goes 4-5 and Willie Wilson
drives in 3 to pace the home squad.
Game #3:

Rickie Henderson steals 3 bases and rips a double to back Hansen’s solid 7 innings. Lee Smith picks up the win. Willie Randolph hits safely 3 times.

Ripken 3-4 and Boone drives in 3 to assist DeShaies pick up his 8th victory.
Game #5:
MIC 4 BDB 5
Bandits score single runs in the 6th, 7th and 9th to pull out a squeaker. Hoiles goes deep and drives in 3 for the Marauders. Fletcher 4-4 w/ 2 doubles for Blarney Drive.

California  Quakes @ Corktown  Bootleggers
Preview
Two teams going in opposite directions as the California Quakes head to Detroit’s Corktown neighborhood for a big series of 7. Fort Worth is begining to run away with the AL East, but there are still some wild card hope for these two teams.
Game #1:
The Quakes came right out of the gate the way they’ve been playing lately.California 11-5

The frustration for the Bootleggers continued once again as California had a big 4 run 4th and that was all they needed.California 4-2

California started the game the same way as they rolled off 4 runs in the 1st and 2 in the 4th to jump out to a 6-1 lead. Finally, a turning point in the series/season for Corktown, as they slowly chipped their way back to send this one to extras. Chicago  Demolition @ Janesville  Juggernauts
Preview
The Demolition travel the I-95 corridor and visit the Juggernauts for a five game match-up.
Game #1:
Clemens for Chicago is masterful as the Demolition cruise to a game one victory of 4-0.
Game #2:
Janesville comes right back in game two, pounding out 12 hits and winning 10-0 behind Chris Hammond’s excellent pitching performance.
Game #3:
Game three sees the first close game of the series, but the Juggernauts, behind 1-0, score single runs in the sixth and seventh innings to win 2-1. Plunk earns his 15th save of the season.
Game #4:
Janesville’s Jack Armstrong still cannot find the win column, losing his sixth straight game as Chicago ties the series up winning 6-3.
Game #5:
The rubber game of the series sees the home team win it and the series, 5-2.
Summary:
The Juggernauts take the series 3-2. Next up for Janesville is a road trip to visit the Flying Squirrels while the Demolition continue their road trip visiting the division leading Fort Worth Panthers.

 

Manhattan  Gas Hornets @ Winnipeg  Goldeyes
Preview
A critical series with Second place Winnipeg facing the 1st place hornets. Winnipeg is in tougher division and have the better record. It should be a great series as both teams need to keep winning.
Game #1:
Danny Jackson the Winnipeg 5th start got the start but was pulled early. He allowed 2 runs in 3 innings as Benito Santiago got a homer. The Goldeyes never gave up and chipped away at Picjhardo ffor 4 runs as Bip Roberts went 3 for 3.

Game #2:
Welch pitched great for Manhattan but so did Schilling for Winnipeg. Jeff Husen hit a solo homer off Schilling and Deveraux hit one off Welch. Rojas came in for the save and the 21 continued his disastrous season as a closer blowing his 7th save!. Lucky for Winnipeg Jordon got a pinch hit single in the bottom of the 9th to get a walk off over Jones the 18.

Glavine pitched great for Winnipeg and was ahead of Stewart 3-2 in the 9th. Beck the 10 was asked to close and he blew it allowing 2 runs and took the loss.

Game #4:
Morris was amazing 1 hit allowed in 7 innings. The Mannhattan pen bent but did not break allowing a run in the 9th to win 2-1.

Game #5:
The knuckleballer Candiotti was great no need for the bullpen as he
threw a 4 hit shutout. Buhner homered for Winnipeg. WGE 3 MGH 0

Summary:
Winnipeg manages to take the series 3-2 dispite two more poor relief
showings by Beck and Rojas. They will need a near perfect finish to
their years to make up for this start.
Morris for pitcher of the week a 1 hit game against a tough Goldeye
team.

 

Valdosta  Bombers @ Germantown  Grays
Preview
Germantown visits Valdosta.
Game #1:
Grays 5-0. Three Grays pitchers scatter 8 hits and shut down the Bombers.
Game #2:
Grays 9-1. Bombers manage just 3 hits. Grays’ Curtis, Mack and Sanders homered.
Game #3:
Bombers 5-3. Mike Morgan allowed two in the 8th and takes the loss. Franco picked up his 8th save.
Game #4:
Grays 2-0. John Smoltz spins a 2-hitter.
Game #5:
Bombers 3-2 (10 innings). Bombers blow a 9th inning lead but come back with 1 in the 9th for the win.
