PLAYER / PITCHER OF THE WEEK #7

The Flying Squirrels visit the Juggernauts for a seven game match up.

Game one between the teams actually is almost two-as it goes 15 innings before Janesville pulls it out winning 12-11. Rob Deer off the bench goes 2 for 4 with both hits being homers.

Game two is all Flossmoor, as 3 costly errors by the Juggernauts leads to 5 Flying Squirrels unearned runs, and they win it 13-1.

Cone for Flossmoor only goes .2 innings as Janesville jumps all over him, scoring 6 runs in the first, and go on to win game three 13-3.

Another extra inning affair, but this time the Flying Squirrels score the run and win it in the 10th inning 4-3.

Tim Wakefield goes 8 innings, and the Juggernauts take game five and the series lead by a score of 4-1.

Janesville insures the series win, taking game six again by a score of 4-1. Danny Neagle earns his 2nd win of the season pitching 7.1 innings giving up only an unearned run.

The final game of the series sees two great pitching performances from both teams, but Janesville, after giving up the tying run in the top of the ninth score the walk off victory in the bottom half and take game seven 3-2.

The Juggernauts take the series 5-2. Next up for Janesville is a road trip against the Eastern Division leading Fort Worth Panthers while Flossmoor goes home to face the Stockton Wings.

Mexico City wins the first game then Ft. Worth takes the next four including a no hitter in game two by southpaw Jim Abbot. The Panthers would hold the Chihuahuas to just two hits in games two and three combined.

Sugar Land comes into Michigan. The Skeeters are not nearly as successful as last year.

Jim Deshaies pitches a nice 8 innings and gives up 1 run for the Mauraders. Some itchy relievers lead to 3 runs for the Skeeters in the 9th. Rafael Palmeiro, Bernie Williams, and Bret Boone go yard for Michigan.

Gullickson throws a 5 hit shutout. Hoiles hits a homer and is responsible for all 3 runs. Orsulak gets hurt for Michigan.

Pat Borders hits a solo homer early in the game. Then, he gets the walkoff double in the 9th to win the game.

Michigan jumps all over the Skeeters early. But, Nagy has a bad start and the pen does not look too dandy either. Randolph with a homer and 3 RBIs for Michigan. Merced with 3 doubles and 3 RBIs for Sugar Land.

The hits just kept coming. Bell, Daulton, and Merced each with 3 hits for the Skeeters. Daulton also hit a homer. For Michigan, Gaetti connects on a homer. Palmeiro and Ripken each knock in 3 runs.

Missouri takes 3 of 5 from the visiting Grays of Germantown

Corktown comes into the Windy City of Chicago & promptly beats down the Demolition 6 games out of 7.

Manhattan jumped out to an early 5-0 lead and held on to win 6-3. They got 4 in the top of the 1st with Kreuter getting the key hit a 2 run 2B. Long Beach chipped away and got it to 5-3 but Livingstone added an insurance run with a RBI 2B in the 7th. Welch went 7 strong innings to pick up the win.

What a pitcher’s duel! Guzman didn’t give up a hit until the 7th and only 1 through 8. In the 9th Farr came in and gave up a 2 run 2B to Livingstone for all the runs Reed would need in the Gas Hornets 2-0 win. Reed went the distance and gave up just 2 hits as he improved to 4-0.

Manhattan broke up a 2-2 tie with 3 in the 5th on their way to an 8-2 win. Polonia, Huson & Walker had consecutive 2 out RBI 1Bs to key the rally. Huson had 3 RBI for the game to lead the Gas Hornets offense.

Long Beach continues to struggle to put together rallies. In this game, they used a 2 run HR from Justice and a solo shot by Vaughn to win 3-1. Viola gave up 3 hits over 7 innings and improved to 4-1.

Stewart pitched 7 1/3 innings of shutout ball in Manhattan’s 3-0 win. Martinez had 2 RBI and Fermin 3 hits to lead the offense.

Manhattan came west to Long Beach and took 4 of the 5 games

Steel City, 3 games back of 1st in the NL West takes on the Bandits, who have been playing better of late, for a 7 game set.

Erik Hanson goes the distance for Blarney Drive, allowing just 6 hits and 2 runs. The Bandit offense racked up 13 hits and was let by Bordick (3-4) and Willie Wilson (3-5 2 rbi).

Randy Johnson makes it back-to-back Bandit complete games with a 4 hit shutout. Bruce Hurst tosses his own CG in a losing effort. Eddie Murray drives in the games only run.

Slugger’s starter Martinez gets 4 runs in the 1st from his offense. He is touched for 2 in the 1st himself but that would be all he would give up on his way to a CG. Sandberg, Hollins and Dawson all go deep for the Sluggers.

The bullpen finally figure in a game. Sluggers enter the top of the 6th down 2 to 1 when Fisk finds a whole in infield to drive in 2. Sandberg deposits another one in the seats.

Ron Darling spins a CG shutout allowing just 4 hits. Sandberg leads the scoring with a 2-run dinger.

Hanson pitches another brilliant game, leaving the game after 8 with
the score 1-1. Lilliquist on for Steel City to start the 11th,
Henderson steps in, and on the 1st pitch deposits his 2nd HR of the

Bruce Hurst tosses 8 shutout innings and Lilliquist finishes off a Slugger victory. Hurst sports a 2.33 ERA after another great outing.

Steel City takes the series 4-3 but the Bandits made them work hard for it.

Winnipeg visits 1st place Valdosta.

Winnipeg 16-4. Candiotti (4-2) is the recipient of 16 runs as the Goldeyes rap out 24 hits and Brett “F’ing” Barberie knocks in 5.

Winnipeg 12-2. Another day another blowout. McGwire homered twice for the visitors.

Winnipeg 2-0. Curt Schilling allows just 1 hit as he pitched into the 8th for the win.

Winnipeg 19-3. Glavine improved to 2-4 as the Goldeyes get 24 hits for the second time in the series.

Valdosta 5-3. Donovan Osbourne moved to 7-1 and Bombers all time save leader, John Franco, adds a save to the record books.

Winnipeg easily wins 4 of 5. 1st place was nice while it lasted!
