Long Beach sweeps Sugar Land scoring 33 to Skeeters’ 5. Randy Tomlin pitches a 6-hit shutout in game 5. Great pitching by everyone on Long Beach. Or was it just terrible hitting by the Skeeters? Or both?
|

---|---|
Summary |
Flossmoor takes 4 of 5 from a pathetic California team.
|

Mexico City Chihuahuas @ Corktown Bootleggers | |
---|---|
Preview |
Mexico City comes to Corktown and will stay in neighboring Mexican Town. Because I refuse to give in to Brian’s sick game of making us owners type an impossible to remember how to spell nickname, Mexico City will be known as the Small Dogs for this write up.
|
Game #1: |
Swift went the distance for the Small Dogs giving up only 3 runs on 5 hits.
Mexico City 5-3
W. Swift 2-1 L. Gooden 1-3 |
Game #2: |
Mexico City jumped on top with a 1st inning run and never looked back. Tony Gwynn homered and he would continue to beat up on Bootlegger pitching.
Mexico City 7-1
W. Fernandez 4-0 L. Martinez 0-1 S. Russell (6) |
Game #3: |
Corktown came into this game feeling it was time to stand toe to toe with the big guys. They held their own and took it to extras, but the Small Dogs scored 2 runs in the 11th as soon as the Bootleggers went to their long reliever, for they thought could be a loooong evening.
Mexico City 5-3 (11)
W. Darwin 3-0 L. Grahe 0-1 |
Game #4: | Mexico City came out firing once again, this time scoring 2 off the Bootlegger ace Rijo. Corktown realized they were really gonna have to fight to get a single win in this series. Confidence came in quickly after that as some aggressive base running gave the Bootleggers some golden scoring opportunities in the 1st and they capitalized scoring 3 runs. The Small Dogs would not be put away. They were thrown out trying to stretch extra bases twice. Once at the plate. Corktown eventually broke a 5-5 tie in the bottom of the 7th and I think I got the attention of all my coworkers.Corktown 7-5 W. Rijo 4-1 L. Dewey 0-1 S. Hernandez (8) |
Game #5: |
McDonald was fantastic giving up 4 hits in a complete game. Mexico City 3-1 |
Summary |
It didn’t take long to realize Mexico City is built to win this season. Corktown is not ready compete with the big boys or Small Dogs.
Mexico City 4-1 |

After getting off to 1-0 start – Amaro lead-off homer (1) in the 1st, they had to come back from 2-1 deficit when Sanders and Caminiti drive in runs in the 4th. They do after an Alicea triple and score in the 4th. From there it’s goose eggs until the bottom of the 10th when Polonia PHs and then scores on a Tino double.

Gas Hornets get 2 runs as Morgan goes 7 innings, 3 hits, 8Ks and no runs. Edens and Mason are tossed as Manhattan plunks 3 Grays – but no injuries.
GER 12-13-0 WP Morgan (2-0)
