Michigan  Marauders @ Manhattan  Gas Hornets
Preview
Michigan and Manhattan meet up for a rivalry series. Holidays keeps the comments to a minimum (for me anyway)
Game #1:
Two run Maurader 7th leads to 3-2 come from behind win. Gullickson hung around long enough to square his record to 10-10 and Cal hit HR #20. McReynolds (12) homers in losing effort.
MIC 3-13-0 WP Gullickson (10-10) S Guetterman (3)
MGH 2- 4-0 LP Leary (0-7)
Game #2:
Michigan scores often (failing to score in the 1st, 6th and 7th) while Manhattan covers 2 of those innings with runs. But the Mauraders totals were far bigger 11 to 3 so they win. Ripken (21), Borders 2 of the (8,9) and Moseby (6) homer. Ripken gets 4 rbis, Borders 3.
MIC 11-15-2 WP Nagy (7-11)
MGH 3- 8-0 LP Ashby (1-4)
Game #3:
Home team scores more than the visitors in this one ad the Gas Hornets win 4-2 behind 4 hit pitching from Petry and a shaky save from Righetti – he gives up a homer. B.Jackson gets the PH homer (1) and Hoiles homered (13) earlier to account for the Michigan runs. Yount (7) homers for the Gas Hornets.
MIC 2-5-0 LP Milacki (7-13)
MGH 4-8-0 WP Petry (4-10) S Righetti (5)
Game #4:
Manhattan staves off a comeback bid from the Mauraders as they overcome a 4-0 deficit scoring 2 in the 6th and single runs in the 7th and 8th to tie. But in the 10th, Stillwell gets a one out single to win the game for the Gas Hornets. D.Jackson gets a homer (24) and McReynolds hits a 2 run shot (13) for the good guys.
MIC 4-11-0 LP Scanlan (4-3) 10 innings
MGH 5-10-3 WP Jones (4-6, BS Patterson (2)
Game #5:
A continuation of the big turnaround, the Gas Hornets get 9 runs on 9 hits and 5 walks to win this one 9-3. 3 runs by the Mauraders in the 9th made it almost look close. Walker (4) and Yount (8) homer for Manhattan, Slaught gets 2 run double.
MIC 3-6-0 LP DeSahies (6-9)
MGH 9-9-0 WP Gardiner (3-13)
Game #6:
Michigan, not happy with the way things are going relys on Bill Gullickson to reverse the trend. He gives up 1 in the 1st then waits until the 5th for his teammates to help – and they do. Scoring 3 in the 5th and 2 more in the 7th (Ripken 2 run shot #22). Then the Gas Hornets come back with 3 in the 8th and it’s 5-4 Michigan heading to the 9th. SEVEN (7) runs later it’s 12-4 Michigan and that’s the final. Slaught goes 5 for 6, Ripken and Anderson get 3 hits, Carreon
a 3 run PH double in that 9th inning.
MIC 12-18-1 WP Gullickson (11-10)
MGH 4 – 7-0 LP Stewart (3-16)
Game #7:
Series squared at 3-3 and Michigan drives Harris out in the 1st scoring 6 times. Then 3 times more in the 2nd (and no more after that) But with 9 runs to the good it was plenty as Nagy goes the distance giving up 7 hits and 1 run. Ripken hits another homer (23) and gets 3 more hits. He may show up as player of the week.
MIC 9-14-0 WP Nagy (8-11)
MGH 1- 7-0 LP Harris (4-10
Summary
Michigan prevails 4 games to 3 but wonders why not more. Home team wonders how they got 3!! Next week the Gas Hornets think they’ll be bombed at home by the Skeeters, while Michigan hosts the Long Beach (anything but) Titans.
