Another close game….that is until Johnson’s 3-run HR in the 6th. Or so we thought…Montana scores 4 in the bottom of the 7th to tie the game. Montana then loads the bases with 2 outs in the 9th and Smith boots a groundball to give Montana the win.

A rematch of the scoreless Saberhagen and Tanana match up from game 1. Both teams waste little time scoring against them, however. Cutthroats get unearned run in the 1st. Quakes score twice in the 3rd. It all goes downhill for Tanana from there. Quakes add a run in the 4th and 4 more in the 5th to send Frankie to the showers. Saberhagen dominates and only allows 2 unearned runs.

The rubber match! Scoreless game until the 4th when Canseco and Johnson go back to back with solo HRs. Pendleton hits another solo shot in the 7th for a 3-0 Quakes lead. However, Montana doesn’t go quietly as Burks doubles home 2 in the bottom half. But the rally falls short….

California wins the final two games to take the series 4 games to 3. Montana is just happy to have home games again. Star of the series is probably Saberhagen who goes 17 innings in the series without giving up an earned run on only 9 hits against.
