Janesville Juggernauts @ Traverse City Tigers
Preview
It’s the bottom of the barrel in the AL West, the Traverse City Tigers and the Janesville Juggernauts. The Tigers are ending the year with very low attendance, and financial troubles could spell the end of the franchise.
Game #1:
The Juggernauts come into the game on a 13 game losing streak. Could this be the one? Not today say the Traverse City Tigers, who win 3-1 behind Norm Charlton’s pitching and a 3-4 performance by Sandy Alomar, and 3-3 by Craig Wilson.
Game #2:
Tigers jump out to a 6-2 lead, but Janesville claws back to tie it 7 all after 6, before getting the game winner in the top of the 8th. Janesville’s losing streak is snapped at 14. Danny Tartabull is the hero for the Juggernauts with a 3-4 performance.
Game #3:
Janesville looking to start a streak of wins, but Tigers score five runs after trailing 4 zip to steal the win.
Game #4:
Bruce Ruffin pitches a shutout for the Juggernauts in a 4-0 win. Bobby Bonilla racks up is 102 RBI for Janesville in a 3-4 performance.
Game #5:
Could a team who game into the series on a 13 game losing streak pitch back-to-back shutouts? Why yes the can… Juggernauts flex there… well… whatever Juggernauts have, and win 3-0. Robinson goes 8 for the win and Williams picks up his 16th save. Greg Maddux takes his 18th loss. Probably should cut him… he is a bum.
Game #6:
Shutout? Did anyone say shutout? This time it is the Tigers and Norm Charlton who shut down Janesville to get a 1-0 win. In the bottom of the 8th, Johnny Ray, singled and then was showered in applause while being replaced for a pinch runner, ending a fine 10-year career capped by 3 gold glove awards.
Game #7:
The rubber match, and the last game of the year for both teams. Despite outhitting the Juggernauts 10-5, the Tigers can’t plate a single run, as Janesville gets their third shutout of the series. Allen Anderson gets the CG SO.
Summary
Tigers finish the year 52-110, while the Juggernauts finish 40-122. What will the future hold for the Tigers? Is there a future? Cities are scrambling with offers for the team, including the largest city in America with only one major sports team… Portland Oregon. Only time will tell.

Missouri Black Bears @ Manhattan Gas Hornets
Preview
Missouri comes into Manhattan for the season’s final series still looking to the future. For the Gas Hornets the future is now as they make a last gasp for fame and fortune. Main goal – no more injuries, they will already start the post-season with 2 missing a few games, can they afford anymore? So priorities are: No Injuries, Rest and maybe win enough to get home field advantage.
Game #1:
Joe Magrane is on his game as he goes 6 innings of 2 hit, 1 run ball. He’s supported by a 7 run, 14 hit attack – Gerald Perry goes 3 for 4, McReynolds gets 2 hits, 2 walks and scores 3. All 3 Black Bears runs comes on solo homers, 1 from Bonds (32) and 2 from Williams (34, 35).
MBB 3-6-0 LP Gross (3-18)
MGH 7-14-1 WP Magrane (10-11)
Game #2:
Mike Scott takes his final start to the house going 9 innings, 3 hits, 10 Ks, NO runs. Gas Hornets got 3 runs off Burkett in the 1st, 2 rbis from Jacoby and that was the scoring.
MBB 0-3-1 LP Burkett (12-11)
MGH 3-9-1 WP Scott (13-8)
Game #3:
The game of L’s – Liebrandt and Leary and it starts out with Leary having the better of it. He gets a a couple of runs early and holds it together until the 6th when Sierra drives in 2 to tie the game. Liebrandt slipped a bit and gave up one in the 6th to give Manhattan the 3-2 lead. Jones and Henke made it stick.
MBB 2-7-0 LP Liebrandt (15-8)
MGH 3-6-0 WP Leary (11-11) S Henke (18)
Game #4: This is the game all the fans were waiting for – Can Welch get #27 (and match his real life total for that year). He’s up against Jack Morris (68 years combined age!). 1st inning the Bears mount an attack and plate 2. Gas Hornets come back for 1 in the 3rd, but O’Brien drives in an insurance run in the 5th. Bottom of the 7th, the Gas Hornets mount a rally. During the rally Welch is lifted for a PH. Rally ties the game, but they can’t get the lead so he leaves getting no decision. But  the Gas Hornets did get him off the hook. 1 out bottom of the 9th and Dawson launches one over the wall for the walk-off HR (20) and the 4th win of the series.
MBB 3-8-1 LP Rogers (4-7)
MGH 4-8-0 WP Jones (10-0)
Game #5:
Alright, who are those Gas Hornets on the field? Black Bears don’t care and score 4 in the 1st including a 2 run Williams homer (26). Gas Hornets manage a rally in  the 2nd and score 3 to cut it to 4-3. In the 6th Perry launches a 2 run homer (4) to get the Gas Hornets on top. That last until the top of the 8th when Black Bears  tie it up. But a Jeffcoat error in the 8th gives Manhattan one more run and Henke makes it last.
MBB 5-6-1 LP Jeffcoat (0-1)
MGH 6-8-2 WP Reardon (6-2) S Henke (19)
Game #6:
Gas Hornets start game 6 quickly with 2 in the 1st as the regulars get some time to exercise. Gross drives in 1 in the 2nd to cut it to 2-1, but Gas Hornets get that back in the 3rd and tack on some insurance in the 8th. BAD NEWS is Gerald Perry gets HBP and will be sidelined 8 days – 3 guys down at the start of the  post-season. Will be interesting dugout.
MBB 1-9-0 LP Gross (3-19) – avoids 20 losses
MGH 4-10-0 WP Cary (2-2) S Jones (20)
Game #7:
Final regular season game and Gas Hornets actually hit 2 home runs – Yount (17) and Quirk (2). Yount’s was a 3 run shot and part of the 6 run 2nd inning that blew the game open. Garrelts was called on to start and made the most of it taking a shutout into the 8th before giving up an rbi double to Melvin. That was it for  the Black Bears.
MBB 1-7-1 LP Burkett (12-12)
MGH 9-13-0 WP Garrelts (1-2)
Summary
Manhattan got the unexpected sweep, but Missouri had some limited pitching. Gas Hornets don’t expect much of that in the games to come in the post season. Got rest, got home field advantage, but couldn’t avoid the injury!! Ugh.

Stockton Wings @ Montana Cutthroats
Preview
The Stockton Wings visit the Montana Cutthroats in the final regular season series for both teams. Stockton comes to town to play the role of spoiler while Montana looks to make the playoffs for the first time in Cutthroats history. Montana enters the final series down one game for the final playoff spot.
Game #1:
Jose Rijo improves to 12-10 on the season with a combined 4-hit shutout. Rijo and reliever Joe Bitker combined to strike out eight Wings batters in the win. Montana scored in the 1st inning to take a 1-0 lead which would be all they would need. Three runs late, including an Alvin Davis solo HR, sealed the deal.
FINAL – MCT 4 STO 0
Game #2:
Charlie Hayes and M. Grissom drove home runs in the 2nd and 3rd innings as Stockton looked to be headed to a win with a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the 9th. However, the desperate Cutthroats rallied when down to their final out. M. Duncan doubled to start things. Stockton then intentionally walked F. Stubbs setting the stage for Glenallen Hill. Hill promptly doubled home both runners to give Montana an exciting win.
FINAL – MCT 3 STO 2
Game #3:
Scoreless pitching duel between Willie Blair and Ramon Martinez until the bottom of the 6th. Franklin Stubbs then belted a 2-run HR which turned out to be the game winner. Stockton made a late rally and scored a single run in the 9th on a RBI single by Junior Noboa, but fell just short in the end.
FINAL – MCT 2 STO 1
Game #4:
The Cutthroats scored in each of the first 5 innings to take a commanding 6-1 lead. Stockton battled late boosted by Corey Synder’s 2-run HR, but Montana’s bullpen closed the door. Bitker got his 7th save with a perfect 9th inning.
FINAL – MCT 6 STO 4
Game #5:
Mickey Tettleton belted 2 homeruns and Robby Thompson added another as Stockton got their first win of the series. D. Johnson and two relievers made the Wing’s offensive power hold up.
FINAL – STO 5 MCT 3
Game #6:
In what may just be the fatal blow to the Montana playoff hopes, the Wings ride Tettleton’s HR and 3 RBI to outlast the Cutthroats. Montana tried another stirring comeback in the 9th but the rally fell one run shy.
FINAL – STO 6 MCT 5
Game #7:
Sam Horn hit a 2-run HR in the 1st inning and Montana rode the arm of their ace Ramon Martinez to the win. Martinez went the distance with a complete game 4-hitter. He only allowed a run in the 3rd as he improved to 18-8 on the season.
FINAL – MCT 2 STO 1
Summary
Montana has a successful series by winning 5 of 7. However, it may not be enough to catch Detroit or California in the standings. Star of the series is probably  Ramon Martinez who goes 15 1/3 while only allowing one run in two victories.Stockton ends the season with a record of 72-90 while Montana stays above the .600 mark with a final tally of 98-64. Despite being only 2 wins shy of the 100 victory mark, Montana waits for results from California and Detroit fearing 98 wins isn’t enough.

Michigan Marauders @ Steel City Sluggers
Summary
Michigan can only manage 2 of 5 at Steel City as the Sluggers finish 106-56 on the year.

Game #7: California came into this game tied with Montana at 97 and 64. In the bottom of the 7th after being announced as the lead off hitter and going up the plate he was pinch hit for by Gary Sheffield allowing Keith Hernandez a curtain call as he walked back to the dugout. The standing ovation from the home town crowd was loud and long for the all time Panther great.

Final Score: Panthers 9, Quakes 4

Summary

Ft. Worth takes the last series 4 games to 3.

With Keith Hernandez retiring the Panther’s are down to their last original player in Lance Parrish, but also currently have two other players, who were part of the three titles in the early 1980’s in McGee and Heath
