Steel City Sluggers @ Long Beach Titans
Preview
Long Beach welcomes in Steel City hoping to play well enough to not get blown out of the NL West race.
Game #1:
Long Beach took a 3-0 lead in the first behind a Lemon 2 run HR.  Steel City tied it in the 6th on a Dunston 3 run bomb. Long Beach retook the lead in the bottom of the inning as Magadan scored when Justice hit into a DP with the bases loaded. That ended up being the winning run in the Titans 4-3 win. Viola pitched 8 2/3 innings and Hartley got the last out to pick up his 8th save.
Game #2:
Steel City broke a 2-2 tie in the 6th when Grace tripled in Raines. He then scored on a Sabo groundout. Sandberg and Sabo added HRs to make the final 6-3. Sabo led the offense going 3-3 scoring 2 and driving in a pair.
Game #3:
Henderson hit a 2 run HR in the 7th to tie the game 4-4. Long Beach broke the tie in the 8th when Ripken doubled in Vaughn. Steel City tied it in the 9th when PH Reynolds doubled in PR Moseby. In the bottom of the inning Braggs singled in Magadan to give Long Beach the 5-4 win.
Game #4:
Long Beach exploded for 8 runs in the 4th. Justice hit 2 HRs and Weiss added a 3 run HR in the inning. That was all the scoring they needed as the Titans  cruised to a 9-2 win. Young pitched 6 shutout innings as he improved to 6-4.
Game #5:
Steel City got 2 run HRs from Sabo & Teufel and won easily 7-2. Belcher improved to 6-0 and Jones picked up his 19th save.
Game #6:
Long Beach used solo HRs by Incaviglia (2) and Fielder to win 4-1. Viola went the distance and won his 10th game of the year.
Game #7:
Dave Henderson had a huge game in the Sluggers 8-7 win. He went 4-4 with 2 HRs and 5 RBI. Steel City built a 7-3 lead and held on in the 9th.
Summary
The Titans won 4 of the 7 games to at least stay within striking distance of Steel City.

 

Winnipeg Goldeyes @ Germantown Grays
Preview
The two bottom dwellers in the National League West face off
Game #1:
Grays Finley control the GOLDEYES and Montgomery gets save #17. Grays Alomar was 2-4 with a double. grays 2-0
Game #2:
Appier pitches well and the Grays put up a 5 spot in the 6th to give Crews the win. Goldeyes McGuire was 2-4 with a double and Robert 2-4 with an RBI, run and double. Grays Jose was 2-3 with 2 runs. Grays 6-3
Game #3:
Grays Mulholland starts well and Parker and Fetters finish the shut out. Grays muster 4 hits, which was 1 better than the Goldeyes. Grays 3-0
Game #4:
Another tight one that saw the Goldeyes fall behind twice, but tie it in the 8th and win it in the 11th. 5.2 innings of shut out relief by Niedenfuer, Rojas and Mohorcic kept the Grays at bay. Goldeyes Kennedy went 2-5 with a run and double. Grays Martinez went 2-2 with a run, homer and RBI. Aguilera picked up blown save #5 and usually solid Montgomery lost the game. Goldeyes 4-3 in 11.
Game #5:
Grays bounce back plating 8. Clark banged 3 hits and Fitzgerald, Venable, Jose and McFarlane had 2 each. Goldeyes Roberts, Ventura and Yelding banged out 3 a piece. Grays 8-4
Game #6:
Grays bats stay hot pounding out 19 hits. Grays walk 16-3.
Game #7:
Injuries decimate the Grays line-up as they fall to the Goldeyes. Goldeyes Bell was 2-4 with a run and RBI. Grays Alomar was 3-4 with a run and Gagne 2-4. Goldeyes 4-3
Summary
Grays place 3 more on 15-day disabled list (Redus, Martinez and Mack) and send McRae and Clark to the minors for a rest. Grays take series 4-2 to move within 2 of .500.

The 46-31 Quakes come into Janesville to take on the Juggernauts in a five game matchup.
Game #1:
Saberhagen goes 8 strong innings and the Quakes take game one 8-3.
Game #2:
Nolan Ryan is masterful, pitching a 5 hit shutout with 14 K’s as California wins game two 2-0.
Game #3:
The Juggernauts break through and win game three 5-0 behind Clancy’s 4 hit shutout.
Game #4:
The Quakes come from behind, scoring three runs in the 8th to win game four 4-3.
Game #5:
The Quakes’ bats come to life, as they score 16 runs on 13 hits, taking the series 4-1.
Summary
Lots of good pitching and hitting as California improves to 50-32 chasing Chicago for the top spot. The Quakes head home to take on Detroit while Janesville hits the road against Mexico.

Preview
The first place Chicago Demolition make a trip to third place Montana.

Roger Clemens dominates Cutthroats who try to claw back but fall short.

Orel Hershiser cant get out of the 2nd inning. Montana gets 19 hits Hal Morris goes 4 for 5 while Francisco Cabrera drives home five with grand slam.

Dave Stieb and Kelly Downs tangle in a pitchers duel but Ellis Burks solo HR in the 6th breaks a 1-1 tie.

Dave Stewart is dominant with a 2-hit shutout. Stewart only allows two hits and one walk in his complete game performance.

Game #5:
Cutthroats jump out to a 9-1 lead as they batter Doug Drabek. However, Darryl Strawberry’s grand slam gives Chicago hope and they almost come all the way back.

Game #6:
Ramon Martinez and Roger Clemens in a classic. Hal Morris’ RBI double in the 5th is the lone run of the game. Martinez throws CG 3-hitter. Clemens solid over 7 2/3 as well.

Hershiser cant get out of the 2nd inning once again. Ellis Burks goes 4 for 5 with 2 HRs and 4 RBI to lead Montana. George Brett has 2 HR game for Chicago. The teams combined for 6 homeruns in games 1 thru 6. In game 7, they combine to hit 7 homeruns.
FINAL – MCT 12 CHI 6
Summary
Montana keeps playoff hopes alive as they finish their season series with Chicago with a 5 games to 2 series win. A more friendly second half schedule gives Montana hope going forward. Meanwhile, Chicago will continue down the track to another division title baring some unforeseen setback.

Stockton jumped out to a 3-0 lead after two innings, but Fort Worth tied it up. In the 6th, Snyder’s solo homer gave Stockton the lead and the Wings made it hold up.

Both starters pitched well, but Bolton made two early runs hold up. Bolton had 7 Ks.

Another game in which HRs accounted for all the scoring. Heath’s 2-R HR gave FWP an early lead in the top of the 2nd, but Snyder answered back with a solo shot in the bottom of the inning. Stockton had four solo HRs in a row in the bottom of the 7th to take a 5-2 lead. McGriff added his solo shot in the top of the 9th to make it interesting, but Schooler came in and shut the door.

Another homer-intensive day, but this time FWP added some other hits as well. Stockton again jumped out to an early lead but big innings by Fort Worth in the 6th and 9th put this one out of reach.

Stockton shakes off the game 6 drubbing to answer with their own 12-spot in the finale. Kin had a 4 RBI day, while Oester and Marshall had 3 RBI each for the Wings.
