Michigan Marauders @ Manhattan Gas Hornets
Preview
Michigan (43-31, 2nd NL East) comes to Manhattan (46-24, 1st NL East) having recently tasted 1st place and looks to make a dent in the Gas Hornets’ lead. Should be tough series.Due to imminent departure for vacation (I’m thrilled) the write up will be short – but the trip to Pure Michigan will be enjoyable –
funny how I’m playing Michigan just before the trip.
Game #1:
Deshaies seems to be a Gas Hornet killer – he goes 6 innings, 4 hits, 1 run and coasts to victory.
MIC 9-17-1 WP Deshaies (8-3)
MGH 4-9-1 LP Cary (2-2)
HRs: MIC Brunansky (9), Murphy (10).Brunansky and Deshaies (yes Deshaies) led the 17 hit attack with 3 each!
Game #2:
Gas Hornets return the rout with 10 run 12 hit attack to support
Scott’s 3 hit, 2 run 8 inning performance as series is tied up.
MIC 2-4-2 LP Knudson (6-6)
MGH 10-12-1 WP Scott (7-3)
HRs: MIC – Randolph (2) – led off the game with the HR and it was only MIC hit until the 6th. Murphy (11); MGH – Yount (7)
Game #3:
2 for MIC in 1st, 4 for MGH and they never trailed again but lots of runs scored.
MIC 6-10-2 LP Langston (7-4)
MGH 8-12-1 WP Leary (4-4)S Henke (6)
HRs: MIC – Brunansky (10), Nokes (5), Gaetti (6); MGH – Anderson (2), McReynolds (11)
Game #4:
Scoring begins to slow in game 4 and the 3 scoring innings each produced 2 runs – for MGH in the 2nd and 4th and MIC cut the 4-0 lead in half with 2 in the 5th – Ripken rbi single.3 hits only for MIC AND they committed 3 errors (1 unearned run).
MIC 2-3-3 LP Gullickson (8-7)
MGH 4-9-1 WP Harris (4-4) S Henke (7)

MIC 2-5-1 LP Crim (1-3)
MGH 3-10-0 WP Welch (14-2)
HR: MIC – Palmeiro (9)
Game #6:
Home team again manages a big comeback – down 4-0 in the 6th Dawson unloads a 3 run HR, then down 5-3 in the 8th, Gas Hornets plate 3 including the 2 run blast from James. Kept Gas Hornets from dropping another game to Deshaies – who went 7 ip, 3 hits, 3 runs and saw Guetterman get the blown save.
MIC 5-9-0 LP Guetterman (3-2), BS 3
MGH 6-7-1 WP D.Smith (3-1) S Henke (8)
Game #7:
All is not lost for the Maruaders as they take game 7 and the series bookends. Knudson fares much better, Scott somewhat worse in their 2nd meeting. Ripken gets 2 hits and HR (10) to pace the attack. Knudson gives up 12 (yes 12) hits in 7.1 innings, 2 walk but only 1 run – and that in the 1st innings. Guetterman does his job right in this one (.2 innings) and Henneman pitches the 9th for the save.
MIC 4-10-1 WP Knudson (7-6), S Henneman (6)
MGH 1-12-0 LP Scott (7-4)
