Two playoff hopefuls face off in a 7-game series.

Both teams get off to a hot start, scoring 8 runs in the first three innings. Down 5-3 in the bottom of the 8th, California gets creative to score 3 runs to pull out the 6-5 come-from-behind victory.

McDonald v. Ryan
McDonald was dominant through 7 innings, but the wheels fell of in the 8th. Up 3-0, McDonald gave up 2 unearned runs to close the gap, 3-2. Pall quickly replaced McDonald, loaded the bases, and served up a Grand Slam to Paul O’Neill.

Both Rijo and Farr pitch well, with neither giving up more than 2 ER through 6 IP. But this time it was Montana to score 3 runs in the 8th and 9th innings to pull off the win.

The two trailers in the NL East face off for seven games.
Game #1:
Valuenzuela goes three for four with two runs scored and allows one run through seven innings. SLS 7, MBB 1.
Game #2:
Leibrandt allows one run through six and Matt Williams homers as MBB wins 5-1.
Game #3:
Sierra with four hits and Burkett allows one run through seven as MBB wins, 6-2.
Game #4:
Jimmy Key with a 5-hit shutout, Williams with a 2-run HR as MBB wins, 3-0.
Game #5:
Jay Bell with a walkoff, 2-run HR as SLS wins, 6-4, in 10.
Game #6:
Former Skeeter Magrane allows 0 ER in 5.2 IP and Jose Lind has three hits as Missouri bounces back with a 6-3 win.
Game #7:
Steve Wilson pitches a gem, with 11K and zero walks! Gibson has four hits to lead the offense which puts up fourteen hits and nine runs as SLS wins 9-0.
Summary
Missouri wins four of seven to further distance themselves from the cellar.

Michigan Marauders @ Germantown Grays
Preview
Last place Germantown takes on first place Michigan
Game #1:
Finley and Witt keep the Grays in the game. A rare Aguilera performance in a tight situation allows Montgomery to get the win. Marauders Palmeiro was 3-5 with a run and 2 doubles and Samuel went 2-3 with a double and RBI.
Grays 4-2.
Game #2:
Marauders Deshaies goes 7 allowing no runs and 2 hits for the win. Mulholland held his own through 5 before reliever Parker showed signs of Aguilera disease allowing 4 runs in the 6th. Gaetti was 2-3 with RBI for the Marauders.
Michigan 5-3
Game #3:
Grays Smoltz continues his wows allowing 3 in the 1st and 5 earned runs through 5 innings falling to 1-7. Grays Jose was 2-3 with a run and double. Palmeiro was 4-5 3 runs 2RBI 2 doubles and 2 homers to lead the Marauders. Gaetti had a 3 run homer.
Marauders 11-5
Game #4:
The Grays got a days rest to gather themselves and Finley had another fine start that was blown by Witt and Aguilera. Montgomery pitched 2.1 to gain the win. Grays Fitzgerald was 2-3 2RBI and a double.
Grays in 10, 6-5.
Game #5:
Grays pounce on Gullickson for 6 over 4.2 innings. Parker, Crews and Montgomery hold on for the win. Grays Thomas was 2-3 with 2 runs and a double. Marauders Ripken went 3-4 with a run and double and Palmeiro was 2-3 with a double and 2 RBI, but it wasn’t enough.
Grays 6-3.
Summary
Palmeiro went 11-21 with 4 runs 4RBI 5 doubles 2 homers 3 walks and 2 intentional walks, but couldn’t do it all as the Grays take the series 3-2

 

Mexico City Chihuahuas @ Janesville Juggernauts
Preview
Seven game match up between the league leading Mexico City Chihuahuas and the rebuilding Janesville Juggernauts.
Game #1:
Mexico City takes game one 6-5. Sanderson gets the win but is injured in the 6th and is lost for the rest of the series. Mitchell for the Chihuahuas hits a grand slam in the winning effort.
Game #2:
The Chihuahuas explode against the Juggernauts pitching, rapping out 27 hits a winning the game 19-6. Joel Skinner hits a pitch hit grand slam in the bottom of the ninth.
Game #3:
Clancy stops the bleeding as the Juggernauts get on the win board, taking game three 4-3.
Game #4:
Storm Davis rights his ship, as he goes 8.2 strong innings to help the Juggernauts win game four 4-2. Williams gets just his 8th save of the season.
Game #5:
Swift for the Chihuahuas pitches a gem, going seven innings as Mexico City wins game five 5-1.
Game #6:
Mexico City’s bats wake up again, as they get 20 hits and win game six 15-2. Doc Gooden was masterful on the mound as he wins his seventh game of the season.
Game #7:
The Chihuahuas take game seven and the series, winning 9-5. Rob Deer for Janesville comes back from his injuries, hitting a pitch hit 3 run homer.
Summary
Janesville puts up a good fight, losing the series to the Champs 5-2. The Chihuahuas head home to face the California Quakes, while Janesville is back on the road against the Traverse City Tigers.

 

Valdosta Bombers @ Manhattan Gas Hornets
Preview
Valdosta (21-32) comes to Manhattan to play the Gas Hornets (30-21).  Gas Hornets dropped out of 1st place looking to get back, Bombers looking to be bombers.

Scott gives up 2 unearned runs and Gas Hornets put up singles runs in innings 3 through 7 to take the opener 5-3.

Gubicza goes 7 innings 7 hits, 0 runs for Bombers. Harris matches that for Manhattan except he only gives up 2 hits in his 7 innings. Brantley gives up 2 hits in 3 innings of relief – Henke gives up 1 hit in 3 innings. Franco and S.Smith come in to pitch the 11th – nothing, 12th Wallach reaches on Sax error and  scores on Bream double. Franco gives up nothing in the bottom half – Bombers win it 1-0!

Gas Hornets reverse their no offense run by scoring 3 in 2nd and then 4 more runs down the road. Meanwhile Welch goes 8, gives up 5 hits and no runs. Dawson (7) adds a 2 run homer.

Another well pitched game – Manhattan gets 1 in the 4th, Espinoza ties it with HR (2) in the 5th and Gas Hornets match that run in the 5th for a 2-1 lead. No more scoring by either team as Cary wins in his 1st start of the season (3 innings of relief from Jones and Henke didn’t hurt).

Bombers get out of the offensive dirth scoring 5 runs including a 3 run 7th – Bream 3 run HR (1). Wallach also homers in the game (7) plus a double and single. Player of the game – Candiotti goes the whole way giving up 3 hits (but 6 walks), but Gas Hornets couldn’t take advantage.

Game #7: Finale for the series but nobody wanted the series to end, at least it seemed that way – 15 innings. Wallach had 3 for 5 game with a 3 run HR (8) in the 5th. McReynolds has 3 hits for Manhattan and 3 rbis and HR (6). Bombers took 3-2 lead into the 8th but Brantley could hold it so overtime was needed.Top 12 – Pagnozzi leads off with a single off Henke, 1 out Nixon moves him to 2nd on groundout. Brumley then doubles giving the Bombers a 4-3 lead. Schmidt in to pitch as Franco was lifted for PH. He strikes out Yount and Dawson to start the inning then McReynolds hits his homer to tie it up and keep the Gas Hornets hopes alive. McGaffigan now in to pitch the 13th for Manhattan. He goes 3 innings, giving up 1 walk (and had to bat as bench was empty). Schmidt pitched 13th, Wills comes in in the 14th does well until 15th. Walks Joyner, McGaffigan sacs him to 2nd. Summary
