Germantown Grays @ Manhattan Gas Hornets
Preview
Germantown (10-16) at Manhattan (16-10) – The Grays are struggling, a surprise when looking at the staff. Gas Hornets on a recent down slide.
Game #1:
Grays hang on for a 5-4 victory. Offense sparked by 4 run 6th – a Shane Mack grand slam (and 1st HR of the season). Hornets chip away
but fall short in the 9th when Montgomery (S 5) strands the tying run.
WP Appier (2-4).LP Leary (1-1) Joyner (1) homers for Gas Hornets.
Game #2:
Mike Scott resurrected an arm from the past as he tosses a CG 5 hit, 7k shutout. Sax (after a day off) drives in 3 runs on 3 hits, Jacoby adds a solo HR (2) and the Manhattan evens the series with the 5-0 win.
WP Scott (3-2), LP Finley (2-3) Finley gets 7 Ks in 7 innings, but 7 was his magic number as he walks 7!
Game #3:
Up and down game. Grays score 2 in the 3rd, Gas Hornets tie it with 2 in the 4th. Grays get 1 in the 6th, so do the Hornets. Grays get 1 in the 8th (Griffey HR #1) but Gas Hornets get 3 in the 8th to go up 6-4. Henke, makes it exciting by giving up 2 hits and putting runners at 2nd and 3rd, shuts down the Grays in the 9th for the save (2) as Manhattan wins 6-4. Joyner 2 hits (both doubles) and 4 rbis paces the Hornets, Martinez, 3 hits, 2 rbis and Griffey 3 hits, pace the Grays.
WP Welch (4-2)
Game #4: And the games just keep getting tighter and more tense. Grays jump out to a 3-0 lead with 1 in the 2nd and 2 in the 3rd. Hornets chip 1 away in the 4th but fall back to a 4-1 deficit when D.Martinez hits a solo shot (2) in the 7th. With 2 on and 2 out Smoltz is pulled for Tim  Crews in the 7th – to face Andre Dawson. Dawson greets him with his 3rd HR of the year, 3 run shot to tie the game. Bottom of the 9th,  McReynolds reaches on Gagne error – dribbler that traveled 3 feet on the toss. Sax then steps in, McReynolds breaks and Sax doubles him home to win the game 5-4 with the walk-off double.WP Dave Smith (1-0), LP Montgomery (1-1)
Game #5: Shane Mack cracks his 2nd homer of the series and season in the 1st inning to put the Grays up 1-0. Dawson reaches on E5 in the 4th, steals 2nd and scores on a Joyner single to tie the game. Fitzgerald then HRs (1) for the Grays in the 7th to get them back up by 1, 2-1. Montgomery comes in to nail it down in the 9th but Jacoby leads off with a HR (3) to tie the game. That’s all the Gas Bees can muster however and we go to extra innings. Doug Jones blanks the Grays in the 10th, Henke does the same in the 11th. James leads off with a single and with 1 out Dawson scratches out an infield hit, runners on 1st and 2nd. McReynolds steps up and rams one down the line past a diving Redus at 1st (product of the double switch in the 9th), the ball roles, McReynolds gets a walk-off double as the Gas Hornets again win by a walk-off double, 3-2 in 11.WP Henke (4-1), LP Crews (0-1)
Summary
The game 2 5-0 shutout was the only game that wasn’t a nail-biter. Plenty of action (and plenty of good pitching). Late inning heroics were the deal breaker as the Gas Bees had it of the 50 shades of Gray.Germantown returns home to host Valdosta while Manhattan stays put to host the Eyeballs from Winnipeg.

Valdosta Bombers @ Clovis Cougars
Preview
Match up between a couple of 5th place clubs in Valdosta and Clovis.
Game #1:
Clovis 3-0 over Valdosta. Bud Black continues his early season dominance twirling a one hit shutout to improve to 6-0. Bombers committed 4 errors to put undo pressure on Bob Walk who pitched much to well through 7 to deserve a loss. Score was 1-0 throughout most of the game until Jody Reed jumped on a hanger from Brantley in the eighth to close out the scoring.
Game #2:
Clovis 5-2 winner over Bombers. Jody Reed cleared the bases in the first with a double to deep center and Shawn Boskie made it hold up through 6 before the bullpen took over and shut the door. Thon and Van Slyke homered for the Cougars and the Bombers.
Game #3:
Clovis 5-2 winner. Cougars take third straight in a near repeat of game 2, Greenwell goes deep for two in the first, Smiley hangs on into the 6th when the bullpen takes over for Cougars to bring home the victory.
Game #4: Clovis 3-2 winner. In the best game of the series thus far Cougars hold on to escape with the win. Bombers defense had a bad case of  the jitters in the first with two errors that set the table for Reed who doubled the pair in for an early 2-0 lead. Clovis added another in the third for a 3-0 lead. Randy Johnson was cruising along with a shutout into the ninth before the Bombers started stringing together some base runners. With two in and a runner on first it was time to pull Johnson. Myers came in to shut the door but walked one and gave up a scratch hit to load the bases with two outs and Pagnozzi walking to the plate. Pags drove one deep, deep to center field but Greenwell  got a glove on it and held on as he slammed into the wall and close out the game.
Game #5:
Clovis completes the sweep with a 5-3 victory. Henderson provided the big blow with a three run homer in the 5th to erase an early 2-0 Valdosta lead. Myers made it interesting in the ninth giving up a homer to Van Slyke and giving up a walk and a single before retiring Pagnozzi for the final out for the second day in a row.
Summary
Clovis sweeps Valdosta in a five game series. Valdosta’s defense really let them down with 10 errors and a catcher’s interference in the 5 games. Good pitching from both teams came every game within reach. Jody Reed was the hitting star with 7 hits and 8 RBI for the series while Black’s one hit shutout in the opener was the pitching highlight.
