Grays Finley finally implodes in the 5th giving up the lead and recording a 5-spot. Grays come back in the bottom half with 4 and eventually win in the bottom of the 9th, 8-7.

Skeeters Tapani holds off the Grays and his support bangs out 13 hits in a 5-1 win.

Long Beach hosts Valdosta in an early season series.

Viola comes off the DL and throws a 5 hit, 0 walk shutout in the Titans 4-0 win. Baerga leads the offense with a HR and 3 RBI.

Valdosta had a 2-0 lead going into the bottom of the 8th behind a Van Slyke 2 run HR and strong pitching from Candiotti. When he got in trouble, Brantley came in and walked Vaughn & Incaviglia with the bases loaded to tie the game. The next batter Cerone singled in the winning runs to give Long Beach a 4-2 victory.

Valdosta got a grand slam from Martinez in the 3rd and held on for a 4-2 win despite being outhit 10-7. Smith pitched into the 7th to pick up the win.

Long Beach rode HRs by Braggs and Vaughn to early 5-0 and 7-1 leads. Valdosta got close but Long Beach had enough to win 9-5. Lemon and Braggs had 3 hits each. Braggs drove in 4 runs and Vaughn added 3.

Long Beach took an early 4-0 lead on 2 run HRs by Mulliniks and Fielder and won 9-6. They continued to ride the hot bat of Braggs who hit another HR and contributed 5 RBI. Van Slyke had 4 hits for Valdosta.

Long Beach took 4 of the 5 games.

AL West match up between Janesville and Cedar Park.

Cedar Park 6 Janesville 3Injuries and fatigue hamper the Juggernauts as Donnie Hill was called on to catch. However, Todd Benzinger hit a 2-run HR to overcome a 2-1 deficit for Janesville. The Bears rallied back for the win behind their middle of the order lineup. Mike Moore improved to 3-0, 3.15, Greg Olson earned save #5.

Cedar Park 10 Janesville 3Milligan smacked his 2d HR & drove in 3, Blauser doubled and drove in 3 to lead the offense. Tartabull & Deer hit HR’s for the Juggernauts but there was one on base. Portugal won again to improve to 2-2, 3.45

Cedar Park surprisingly swept the series from the rebuilding Juggernauts. A dominating performance from the Bears who don’t figure to be in the hunt for a playoff spot in the highly competitive AL West.

Sluggers go 5-2 against a scrappy Clovis squad.

California takes 4 of 5 against visiting Traverse City. Nolan Ryan picks up his 5th win on the young season.
