However, when he’s lifted in the 8th for a PHitter, the game is tied 0-0 as Smith was just a brilliant. However, in the 8th, Anderson reaches and is replaced by Pat Sheridan on the base path. Moses comes in to PH for Garrelts and comes through with an rbi double – Manhattan up 1-0. Smith finishes the nning, pitching 8 innings, 3 hits and 1 run.9th inning McClure comes in and promptly commits an error on his first batter (Sharperson, pinchitting for Smith). He’s lifted for a PR, Miller who scores on a 2 out rbi single from Devon White. Smith is off the hook, Garrelts gets a no-decision and Righetti gets a blown save, but he does get the 3rd out with no more damage. So it’s 1-1 going to the bottom of the 9th.Joe Hesketh in, first batter, Wally Joyner, takes him over the fence for a walk off HR (13) and the game is over. 2nd straight game ended with a WOH!Final 2-1 Manhattan WP Righetti (3-2, BS 4) LP Hesketh (1-4)

The finale turned into a Gas Hornet slugfest – 16 hits, 3 homers (Yount #20 and Joyner 2 of them, #s 14 and 15). Yount got 4 rbis in the
game, Joyner 3. Skeeters started the scoring with 1 in the 1st, Manhattan got 3 in the 1st.
