Missouri Black Bears (36-65) visit Manhattan (68-33) – players from both teams spend time with former team mates in this series. The Black Bears are struggling this year, but looking toward a great future. Manhattan seeking a 3rd straight NL East title.

Valenzuela (W 7-3) back from a vacation to Mexico shows no signs of long layoff as he tosses a 4 hit shutout with 9 Ks. Sax and Carreon 3 hits for the home team as they win a close 2-0 contest. Ruffin (L 0-1) pitched a good game over 6.1 innings, but got no support.

Black Bears get scoring early posting 3 runs in the 1st including a 2 run Sierra HR (15) and hang on behind a gutsy 5 hits performance from Scott Bailes (2-3). He goes 7, Rogers strong for 1.2 and Rick Reed gets the final out and save (1). Gas Hornets pull a solo HR from Dawson (21) in the 2nd, but that’s it as Leary takes the tough loss (5-5). Final Missouri a 3-1 winner.

Bear get 1 in the first but Manhattan gets 2, then they get 3 in the 3rd to open a 5-1 lead. Black Bears cut it to 5-3 in the 5th but Gas Hornets matched their 2 runs, added another in the 6th and cruise to an 8-4 win. Wynne and Bonds get 2 hits each (and an rbi each). Ballard goes 7 innings to get the win (10-5), Morris takes the loss (6-11).

This one was another tight contest with the Gas Hornets scoring 2 in the 5th on a Bass rbi double and an Oberkell rbi single. Gibson was tough though and that’s all he gave up and the bullpen blanked Manhattan the rest of the way. However, Reuschel (and his youth machine) were 1 HIT good – complete game shutout with 1 hit, 2 walks and 7 Ks for the 2-0 win (13-3). Gibson goes to 3-9 with the loss.

If you are a Black Bear fan, this game was ugly. Even when the subsitutes came in, it still got worse – a 5 run 8th (when the score was 9-1) was capped off by a Grand Salami from Jacoby (8). Back to back jacks from Joyner (9) and McReynolds (8) earlier set the tone.Missouri scored one run on a solo HR from Sierra (16) in the 6th.Jimmy Key (L 7-8) did not find his old stomping grounds much fun as he went 4  innings, 7 hits, 5 runs/4 ER and gave up 2 taters.Scott goes 7 innings, 4 hits, 1 run, 9 ks to get the win (9-9).

In a performance that pretty much mirrored game 1 – Valenzuela (W 8-3) again goes 9 innings, giving up 4 hits, fanning 6 for another CG shutout as the Gas Hornets win 4-0. Rasmussen (L 5-7) did not pitch all that badly – 6 innings, 4 hits, 2 walks but 3 runs (allowed the damage in the 1st and 2nd.).  Galarraga had 2 of the 4 hits.

Series finale was another brutal game for Black Bear fans as the Gas Hornets, behind Tim Leary (W 6-5, CG, 5 hitter with 11 Ks) win 13-1. Williams solo HR (11) in the 4th made it 6-1, but Manhattan started fast scoring 4 in the 1st (all nine guys got to the plate). Then it got worse with another 5 run inning.Gas Hornet HRs: Carreon (5) – he went 2 for 5 with 5 rbis; Santiago (2), and his replacement, Allanson (2). Allanson’s was a back to back after Carreon went deep in the 6th (3 run shot, solo shot were 4 of the 5 runs).Ruffin takes the loss (0-2).

6-1 series win for Manhattan but Missouri had limited talent on the mound. But they will be back!

Long Beach manages to get 3 wins in the 7 game series with Germantown.

Clovis comes to Michigan to take on the Mauraders.

Clovis dominates Michigan. Ken Howell tosses a 2 hit shutout for Clovis. Langston struggles and Barfield knocks out Langston with a homer in the 7th.Clovis 7 Michigan 0

Nolan Ryan makes a bid for pitcher of the week allowing only 1 run in two starts and California also wins one game scoring 3 runs in the 10th. Ft. Worth takes the series 4 games to 3.

Bombers host the rebuilding Skeeters.

Bombers take 5 of 7 from the Skeeters. Franco picked up 3 saves in the series.

The Bears usual tough tussle with the Traverse City Tigers, manage to win the series 4-3, thanks mostly to Dwight Evans. The highlight was Mike Moore’s no-hitter. I believe it was the first for Cedar Park.

Last place Stockton visits 4th place Montana for a 7 game series. Montana enters series with a season high 5 wins in a row.

Montana takes 6 of 7 to win the series. Stockton wins final game of the series to break Montana’s 11 game win streak
