Series Preview
Germantown needs to rest some players against the lowly Missouri pitching staff.
Game #1:
Bonds solo shot in the 12th and lights out Bear relief (or lack of Grays bats) is the difference.
Game #2:
A late grand slam by Sierra, ruining Finley’s earlier efforts, delivers a 2-0 series lead to the Bears.
Game #3:
Schiraldi blows another fine effort by a Grays starter, but the Grays manage to come back.
Game #4:
Lack of Grays bats continues to haunt Smoltz, as the Bears score often late to win #3. Bonds went 4-5 and Sierra 2-5 with 3 RBI for the Bears.
Game #5:
Over the course of the series, Grays Finley allows 3 hits over 12.2 IP and has an 0-1 record to show for it. Grays Gagne was 3-5 with an RBI and double in the loss.
Series Summary
Only 5 games… mercy. – Grays to face league leading Manhattan next week, double mercy. – Bears take advantage of a fatigued Germantown and take the series 4 games to one.

Chicago heads home after a long road trip to take on the Wings of Stockton.
Game #1:
Shawn Hillegas (2-5 6.42) goes 6 solid and Mike Schooler picks up his 6th save on the season for the Wings. Barry Larkin goes down with a sprained knee for 11 games and misses the rest of the series.

Game #2:
A walk off Home Run by Darryl Strawberry his 2nd of the game wins it for Chicago in the 9th.

Game #3:
Larry Andersen (5-1 1.85) picks up the win, Strawberry Homers (3rd of the series) and Chicago squeaks by again.

Game #4:
Doug Drabek (11-4 2.15) goes 8.1 innings allowing 3 Earned Runs & Dennis Eckersley comes in and picks up his 25th save on the season.
Randy Ready has 2 RBI’s, but is 0 for 3 in the game.

Dave Stewart (11-5 2.55) & Dennis Eckerlsey (Save #26) are all that Chicago need pitching wise as they hold the Wings to 2 runs. Chicago scores a single run in the 3rd, 4th & 5th innings.

Game #7:
All tied at 4 after 9 innings of play, the games goes 14 innings and Stockton wins it there. Charlie Hayes is 3 for 6 with a HR & 3 RBI’s for the Wings.
Final Score: Stockton 5 – Chicago 4
Series Summary
Chicago wins the series 4 games to 3, but this was a much closer series than what everyone thought it would be. Stockton could have won every game in the series.

Traverse City Tigers @ Cedar Park Bears
Series Preview
The Traverse City Tigers travel from Michigan to Texas to face the Cedar Park Bears for a AL West Division 7 game series. TCT finished first last year but finds themselves in last this season. Cedar Park finished 2d by two games last year, are in 3d with playoff possibilities again.
Game #1:
Randy Bush HRd, doubled and drove in 6 runs to lead the Bears. John Cerutti with plenty of run support went the distance.

Game #2:
Johnny Ray HRd and drove in 3, Harold Baines also contributed 3 RBIs as the Tigers turn the table & romp over the Bears to even the series. The Bears committed 3 errors leading to 5 unearned runs.

Game #3:
Harold Baines leads the way with a HR (8th) and 3 RBIs as the Tigers make it two straight taking advantage of the Bear’s woeful starting pitching. Cedar Park rallied for 5 runs in the 9th but fell way short; they’ve been outscored 20-7 in the last two games.

Game #4:
Cedar Park’s starters stop the bleeding, beginning with Greg Swindell who goes the distance topping hard-luck Tigers’ starter, Greg Maddux. Jerry Browne (2d) hit a solo HR but Kurt Stillwell had a key 2-run double to in the 6th to give the Bears a 3-run lead.
Series tied 2-2.

Game #5:
Continuing what Swindell started, Mike Moore tossed 7& 2/3 of 4-hit shutout ball before being ejected from the game for hitting Greg Brock with a pitch, seriously injuring the Tiger’s slugger, who will miss 3 weeks. The Bears used 6 hits efficiently to outscore TC.

Game #6:
John Cerutti has his 2d CG victory in the series giving up only 3 hits and 2 unearned runs. Kirby Puckett had a 3-run HR in the 1st to erase a 2-0 deficit. Luis Polonia contributed a 2-run HR to give Cerutti enough cushion to complete the game. The Bear now have a 4-2 series lead.

Game #7:
Bobby Witt failed again to provide the Bears with a good start, lasted only 1 inning and, after the game, was demoted to the farm team. The Bears could not overcome the early 4-0 lead by the Tigers. Stan Jefferson’s (4th) HR off Mark Portugal proved to be the winner as the Bears rallied late with a run in the 8th and 2 in the 9th, but they stranded the tying and the Tigers edge the Bears in the final game

Series Summary
While individual games might not be close, the series between these two teams is usually close. The Bears come out ahead in this one 4-3. Traverse City hosts the division leading Mexico City next, Cedar Park travels to parts unknown in Montana to take on the Cutthroats.
