Two teams from the AL West vying for post season playoff positions. The
Bears with a chance to win the division, the Chihuahuas battling for the
wild card.

Game #1:

Both teams have 14 hits but a large disparity in the final score. Cedar
Park uses 7 pitchers but Phil Bradley hit 2 HRs and drove in 7 runs.
Except for Bonds and Marzano, all starters score 1 or 2 runs. Fernandez
went 4 for 6. Bob Walk (5-8, 4.50) won easilty, Bobby Witt (9-8, 3.75)
lasted 5.

Final: Mexico City 15 Cedar Park 2

Game #2:

Greg Swindell (19-7, 2.98) failed to win his 20th and Jeff Russell (9-9,
2.65) was superb for 8 innings before the Bears got to him for a run in
the 9th. Bradley tripled and scored, the 9th place batter, Dave Bergman
drove in 2 runs in the 3 run 7th that broke open a 0-0 tie.

Final: Mexico City 4 Cedar Park 1

Game #3:

Danny Darwin (7-5, 2.57) left in the 6th but 4 relievers held the fort,
Duane Ward earned his 11th save. The Chihuahuas make it 3 straight.
Cerutti (7-6, 2.58) allowed only 1 earned run over 7 &2/3, but the Bears
have trouble scoring runs despite outhitting MC 9-6.

Final: Mexico City 3 Cedar Park 2

Game #4:

David Cone (20-7, 1.82) wins his 20th and extends the visitor’s streak
to 4 in a row. The ball was flying out in this one, Kevin Mitchell (12)
hit one for MC, Randy Milligan hit his first of the year, Claudell
Washington (8) and Ernie Whitt (9) went yard for the Bears. Clark (0-1,
4.50) in his first start for CP pitched 8 but gave up early runs that

Game #5:

A struggling Randy Bush led the Bears from their doldrums on offense
hitting his 3d HR and driving in 4, Puckett tripled and drove in 2. Mike

Dwight Gooden (9-9, 3.53) the victim.

Final: Cedar Park 7 Mexico City 1

Game #6:

Mike Boddicker (12-10, 3.06) went the distance with a 2-hit shutout.
Claudell Washington contributed a solo HR as the Bears used 10 hits to
carve out enough runs to back Boddicker. Bob Walk (5-9, 4.53) worked
around 9 hits and a walk to last 7 innings but took the loss.

Final: Cedar Park 4 Mexico City 0

Game #7:

An error and an RBI double by Kevin Mitchell had Greg Swindell (20-7,
2.94) down 2-0 before everyone was seated. Swindell got his stuff going
after that and stayed in until 2 out in the 9th when Al Pena (s-18) was
needed to close out the win. The Bears finally get to Jeff Russell
scratching out 3 runs but otherwise Russell pitched well enough to get
the CG. Swindell gets his 20th win in his 3d season with the Bears.

Final: Cedar Park 3 Mexico City 2

Series Summary

*

Mexico dominated the series in the 1st 4 games and looked poised for a
sweep. The Bears starting pitchers put an end to that, Moore, Boddicker
and Swindell, all having good seasons, quieted the Chihuahuas hitters
and the Bears were able to score enough to take the last 3. However, the
series goes 4-3 in favor of the Chihuahuas
