Doug Drabek was solid for 8 innings, & Willie Hernandez pitched the 9th & 10th Innings as Chicago won it on a walk off Bill Doran Home Run with two outs in the bottom of the 10th. Ken Phelps also Homered and had 3 hits in the game. |
Game #2: |
Claudell Washington was 3 for 5, Dwight Evans & Ron Gant both Homered, but Chicago outscored the Bears by 1 run. Ken Phelps homered for the second straight day. Chicago’s bullpen went the last 4 innings, Hay Howell (1-0 .00 ERA) picked up the win & Dennis Eckersley notched his 4th save on the season. |

Cedar Park put a whooping on the Demolition as the Bears pounded out 14 hits, scoring 12 runs. John Moses was 4 for 6 with 3 runs scored & a HR. Claudelll Washington was 2 for 5 with 3 runs scored & a HR. Kirby Pucket was 4 for 5 with a HR. John Dopson (2-1 4.05) went 6 solid innings for the win. |

In a tightly pitched game, the Juggernauts come away with a 2-1 victory over Detroit. Clancy goes 7 innings for the win, Mitch Williams gets his 2nd save of the season. For Detroit, Perez was stellar in a loss, with a perfect game going until the bottom of the 6th when Rob Deer spoiled it with a homer. |

Another close game, but Janesville comes away with the win 2-0, moving their record to 8-8 on the season. Eric Show was the star for Janesville, going the distance for his second win of the season, with 6 K’s and only 1 walk, scattering 5 hits. For Detroit, Jackson takes his first loss of the season. Janesville now leads the series 2-0. |
Game #3: |
Detroit finally gets on the win board, taking game 3 of the series 2-1. Gubicza pitched a great game for the Stars, not giving up a run until the bottom of 9th. He goes 8.2 innings with 2 K’s and 3 walks. Tudor falls to 2-2 on the season. So far the series has been a pitchers showcase-will the bats come alive? Janesville leads the series 2-1. |
Game #4: |
In an extra inning affair, Detroit takes game 4 by a score of 3-2, scoring the winning run in the 13th. Defense was outstanding on both sides, as Detroit left 15 men on base, with the Juggernauts not far behind with 11. Lefferts was masterful in relief, going 4.1 innings and getting his second win of the season. The bats were alive, with 27 hits in the game-18 by Detroit. Series now tied at 2-2. |
Game #5: |
And yet another close game, as Janesville seems to live on the edge, winning game 5 of the series 5-4. Bobby Bonilla had the winning RBI, smashing a solo homer in the 8th to break the 4-4 tie. Mitch Williams notches his 3rd save of the season. Janesville now leads the series 3-2. |
Game #6: |
Defense failed Janesville this game, as they commit 4 errors-costing them as they lose to Detroit 9-3. Detroit raps out 13 hits, as Perez wins his first game of the season. Clancy takes the loss, his first of the season. Janesville knocked out two homers but it wasn’t enough. Series finishes 3-3. |

A great series, pitching and defense was the name of the game for the first five. Janesville now 9-11 on the young season, while Detroit moves to 10-10. |

Dave Stieb for California vs. Steve Onitveros for Montana. Ontiveros out pitches Stieb by throwing a 2-hit shutout with help from Cutthroats bullpen. Stieb walked eight but pitched well otherwise. Montana got a gift run in the 4th as Stieb walked in a run. Then in the 6th, Luis Rivera hit a grand slam to complete the scoring. California only managed two hits, both in the 3rd inning. Paul Kilgus for Quakes vs. Willie Fraser for Cutthroats. California finds its offense and is down right offensive to the home crowd with a 17 run onslaught. The Quakes are led by George Brett and Dale Murphy who both homered. Brett went 5 for 5 and Murphy was 2 for 5 with 4 RBI. FINAL – CAL 17 MCT 4 |

Nolan Ryan for Quakes against Mike Smithson of Cutthroats. Good pitching duel but Smithson comes out on top. Montana gets to Ryan early on Don Baylor RBI single and a wild pitch for a 2-0 lead. Quakes cut lead in half with Tom Foley solo HR. Ellis Burks sac fly gives Montana some insurance. Cutthroats bullpen backs Smithson to hold save. FINAL – CAL 1 MCT 3 |

Jose Bautista takes hill for California vs. Bob Forsch for Montana. Gary Pettis highlighted a 5-run 4th inning with a bases loaded clearing triple to lead the Quakes past Cutthroats 8-4. California built a 7-0 lead and Montana tried to claw back but fell short despite HRs from Don Baylor and Steve Balboni. FINAL – CAL 8 MCT 4 |

Zane Smith for California vs. Joaquin Andujar for Montana. Montana knocks out Smith before the end of the 2nd inning with a 5-run inning. Leading 7-2, Andujar is solid through 5 innings and turns it over to the bullpen. However, California makes it interesting as they score two on bases loaded walks and another on a wild pitch to pull within 8-6 after a 4-run 7th. Keith Atherton then puts out the blaze for the save. Game 1 rematch of Stieb vs. Ontiveros. Exciting game as teams trade single runs in the 1st. Montana then takes 3-1 lead on an Ellis Burks sac fly and Gene Larkin RBI single. Lead holds until the 9th inning when California ties the game on a two-out error by Cutthroats 2B Tommy Herr. However, Montana’s Darryl Boston wins it in bottom of the 9th with a solo HR. FINAL – MCT 4 CAL 3 |

Paul Kilgus for Quakes and Willie Fraser for Cutthroats. Darryl Strawberry for California and Steve Balboni for Montana trade solo HRs in the 2nd inning to make it 1-1. In the 3rd, California flexes muscles with an RBI single by George Brett and then back to back HRs by Carlton Fisk and Strawberry to make it 5-1. Kilgus makes it hold up as Balboni hits another solo HR for the only other damage. Brett and Strawberry with 3 hits each. FINAL – CAL 10 MCT 2 |
