Game #6:

Fernando Valenzuela (9-14 5.36) goes the distance with a shutout. A very costly collision costs the Demolition it’s second catcher for what quite possibly could be the first two rounds of the playoffs. Ozzie Vigil collided with Kent Hrbek in a foul pop. Hrbek went down for 2 games, but Virgil went down for 14 days. He was placed on the D.L. as soon as the game ended.

Dave Stewart (15-7 3.44) turned the tide with a shutout as he went the distance for Chicago. Tony Phillips had 3 hits, including a HR and had 3 RBI’s. Wade Boggs chipped in for 3 hits and 2 RBI’s.

After years of last place finishes, Mexico City comes to Cedar Park in first place, while the former AL West Champs (83&84) sit in 4th place during a rebuild process.

Game #1:

Tough loss for the host Bears. Greg Swindell (2-7, 6.26) allowed only one earned run over 8 I, but could not come away with a win as the game was tied at 3 after 9. The division leader’s BP out dueled the Bears and they came away with a 4-3 11 inning win. Al Pena (4-1, 2.09) lost for the 1st time. Mirabella improved to 4-0, 7.30 leaving the CP faithful stunned and disappointed.

Game #2:

Mark Portugal (1-6, 8.76) won his 1st game of the season, Bobby Witt tossed 3 hitless innings of relief. Lazorko (5-3, 5.24) was forced to go the distance due to a tired bullpen. Gruber (9) HRd for MC, Whitt (16) and Pagliarulo (24) went yard for CP.

Game #3:

Lee Guetterman (8-3,2.68) scatter 10 hits over 7 innings allowing only one run. MC made their 11 hits count and knocked John Cerutti (6-9,4.13) out early.

Game #4: Cedar Park’s Mike Moore had things in control with a 4-1 lead going into the 7th. Kirby Puckett (24) with a 2-run HR. However, 3 HRs, Schroeder (15) H. Johnson (24) and Kevin Mitchell (11), in the top of the 7th tied the game and sent Moore to the showers. MC took the lead with a run in the 8th and another in the 9th. However, CP came back with 2 in the 9th to tie it again on a double by Whitt. The Bears got PR Leonard to 3 in the 10th with one out, and Pagliarulo scored the runner with a sac fly, send Mirabella to his 1st loss. The Bears even the series with a 10 inning come from behind win.
Final: Cedar Park 7 Mexico City 6.

Game #5:

Mexico City scored a run off Chuck Crim (6-5, 4.24) in the 9th to break a 4-4 tie, Stoddard (Sv-18) closed it out, Gooden (15-8, 3.46) got the win. Barry Bonds smacked his 24th HR. Pasqua his 16th for CP.
Final: Mexico City 5 Cedar Park 4.

Game #6:

Cedar Park outhit Mexico City 14-7 only to lose when the visitors scored 3 runs over the final two innings to break a 5-5 tie. Bonds (25) and Gruber (10) HRd for MC, Puckett (25) and Pasqua (17) for CP.
Final: Mexico City 8 Cedar Park 5

Game #7:

Mexico City outhit and outscored Cedar Park in the series final game to sweep the remaining 3 games. Will Clark (33) and Puckett (26) HRd for CP but it was not enough.

The games were pretty close but the Chihuahuas have more power in their lineup along with Stoddard, a good closer. Mexico City takes the series 5-2
