·         Valdosta Bombers @ Winnipeg Goldeyes

Series Preview

Winnipeg has had a rough first season in the MWWL. But have been playing better ball lately and have passed Clovis to lose the title of league doormat. They are hosting Valdosta for 5 games.
Valdosta are a good team in a fight for a wild card spot.

Game #1:

The knuckleballer Charlie Hough was solid 3 in 6 as he beat Glavine 3 in 5 and mainly the Goldeye pen. Valdosya 6 Winnipeg 3 Hough (14-8) L- Bockus (0-2) S Franco (26) Homerun Valle (WPG)

Game #2:

Winnipeg sent Ken Dixon a grade 3XZ and “M” Valdosta sent knuckleballer Candiotti. Candiotti pitched aroung 11 hits in 8 innings allowing just 2 runs. BUT

Ken Dixon pitched a NO HITTER allowing just two walks and striking out 10 hitters. I don’t think I have ever seen a 3 with an M throw a no hitter. Winnipeg 2 Valdosta 0 W-Dixon(3-4) Candiotti (7-6) Homerun Valle

Game #3:

Walker and Sveum homered and two Winnipeg errors lead to 5 runs, 4 unearned runs off Hayben. But the Winnpeg pen was very goos which allowed Elster to play hero and hit a walk pinch hit double in the 9th off of Quisenberry. WPG 7 Valdosta 6 W-Searage(2-1) L Childress (8-5)

Game #4:

After a day off and a team meeting Valdosta got a gem from Dave Dravecky (8-8) only mistake was a first inning homer to Perry. Valdosta got homers from Clark, Wallach and Berrett in the 6th inning to score 5 runs. W-Dravecky (8-8) L-Whitson(8-12)

Game #5:

the final game with the series tied 2-2 was a one run win by Valdosta as Van Slyke hit two homers off Moyer and Forsch got the win and Franco got the save. Valdosta 6 Winnipeg 5 W-Forsch (10-6) l-Moyer(6-16) S-Franco(27)

Series Summary *

Winnipeg is trilled to get sn amazing game by Dixon and while they lost 3 of 5 the Goldeyes are showing heart down as the season is coming to the final lap.

·         Long Beach Titans @ Manhattan Gas Hornets

Series Preview

Long Beach (1st place NL West 82-40) travels to Manhattan (1st place NL East 84-38) – Post Season Preview? Clash of the Titans and Gas Hornets …

Game #1:

Titans take a 3-1 lead into the bottom of the 7th on 2 run HR by Guerrero (28) and solo shot by Mattingly (28). However, Durham leads off with a PH HR (10) to make it 3-2. Then with 2 outs and 2 on, Jacoby comes in to PH for Moreland and smashes one deep to left center. Two runs score to give the Gas Hornets the lead 4-3. Thinking it will be a time to test out Tim Burke for the save, the Gas Hornets score 2 more on a Felder walk and an O’Neill double. 6-3 after the 5 run 8th and that’s final.
WP Clancy (11-6), S Hudson (5) LP Worrell (4-6) BS – Bedrosian (6)

Game #2:

This game was all Willie Fraser and Long Beach Titans as he tosses a CG 4 hitter winning 8-1 and moving his record to 14-3, 2.72 era. Game matched up aces as Key started for Manhattan and took the loss (18-5), giving up his 25 HR to Law (13). Law also doubled and had 4 rbis. Pedro Guerrero gets 3 hits in the game and 2 runs.

Game #3: Another tight games and another come from behind win for Manhattan. Down 3-0 after 3, they scored 2 in the 7th to tie but no more runs until the bottom of the 12th. Davis leads off and walks. Gladden in to PR. He steals 2nd. Williams singles down the RF line, Gladden goes for the winning score and he’s safe, Gas Hornets win 4-3. Buice (10-2) the winner with 2 innings of relief following Burke’s 3 innings of scoreless relief. McCullers takes the loss – facing 2 batters in the 12th (2-2), Robinson goes 5 innings of relief, 3 hits, 1 run and a BS (7). Mattingly hits a ding-dong (29),while Dawson hits #37 and Leon Durham again gets a PH HR (11) for 2 runs in the 7th that tied the game.

Game #4:

Holding true to the pattern of the series so far, Long Beach takes the even numbered game – and again rather easily winning 5-1 (3 run 3rd made it 4-0 and they coasted from there). Viola (15-8) goes the distance for the win tossing a 4 hitter (another 4 hitter). James homers (12) for the Titans, the 3 runs in the 3rd on his Baltimore special. Zane Smith took a rare loss (12-3) going 4 innings.

Game #5:

Pattern continued with the Gas Hornets winning the odd # game – and again it was close and a come from behind affair. Manhattan gets 2 in the first on Dawson single and Jacoby single followed by James error in the outfield. Mulliniks hits a solo shot (11) in the 2nd, 2-1 Manhattan. Top 5 Titans score 2 to take the lead on Mattingly and Teufel rbi doubles, 3-2 Long Beach. In the 6th, Dawson breaks the tie with a 2 run HR (38) for a 4-3 lead. Buice (1.2 innings) and Burke (1.1 innings – S [28, 1st for Manhattan]) hold off the Titans for the win. WP Alexander (11-4), LP Downs (12-4).

Series Summary *

Interesting 5 game series – 3 close ones go to Manhattan, 2 easy ones go to Long Beach. More later, I’m sure.
