Roger McDowell had some shaky moments out of the pen for the Panthers during the series, but Ft. Worth still wins 5 of 7.

Series Preview

East Pointe travels to Old Mill for a 7 game set.

Game #1:

Old Mill wins 6-2. Jones gets the win in relief and Dayley the save. Raines has 2 RBIs for the home team.

Game #2:

East Pointe wins 9-8 as Show gets the victory and Nunez the save. Trammell and Deer have 3 RBIs each.

Game #3:

Old Mill wins 10-6. Jones gets the win and King the save. Evans had a HR and 5 RBIs.

Game #4:

Old Mill wins 5-3 as Maddux improves to 3-0. Burke picked up the save and Evans added 2 more RBIs.

Game #5:

East Pointe wins 8-5 as Welch gets the win. Sheets has 2 HRs and 6 RBIs.

Game #6:

Old Mill wins 7-5. Candelaria gets the win and Burke the save. Quinones had 3 RBIs for the home team.

Game #7:

East Pointe wins the finally as Show gets his 2nd win of the series. White had 2 HRs for the visitors.

·         Valdosta Bombers @ Michigan Marauders

Series Preview

This is a meeting between the second and 3rd place teams in the N.L. East. Michigan is coming off a good road trip to Germantown and Valdosta had a good home stand versus Missouri.

Game #1:

Mitchell vs. Tanana:
Michigan gets a 4 run lead early. But, Valdosta pounds away with 6 unanswered runs. Mookie Wilson gets a critical 2 run homer for the Bombers. St. Claire with the win and Childress with the save.

Gullickson vs. Higuera:
A remarkable game, which the pitchers didn’t last long. Valdosta scores 3 runs in the 9th, but Michigan scores 1 on a wild pitch. Then, in the 10th, Michigan scores a run to win the game. Sveum with the big 3 run homer in the 9th for Valdosta. Brenly knocks in 3 runs for Valdosta.
Juan Samuel is the star of the game with 4 hits and 5 RBI.

LaCoss vs. Deshaies:
Valdosta gets off to a 5-1 lead, but Michigan puts on a show and wins the game. Maldonado, Nokes, and Brunansky hit homers. Maldonado adds 3 RBI. Michigan scores 4 in the ninth to get the come from behind win.

Hough vs. Langston:
Ripken, Samuel, and Mel Hall hit homers for Michigan. Mark Langston pitches a great game for the Marauders.

Forsch vs. Terrell:
Brenly has an excellent game for Valdosta, but its not enough to withstand Michigan’s offense.
Mitch Webster and Glenn Davis hit homers.

Mitchell vs. Tanana:
Mitchell puts together a masterpiece. Tanana gets injured. Brian Downing with a big homer for Valdosta.

Game #7:

Gullickson vs. Higuera:
This time the Marauders come away with a shutout. Higuera strikes out 10 and gives up 4 hits. Glenn Davis and Cal Ripken hit homers for Michigan.

Michigan takes 5 of 7 from Valdosta. Juan Samuel and Mitch Webster continues their excellent seasons.

·         Manhattan Gas Hornets @ Sugar Land Skeeters

Series Preview

NO-HITTER IN GAME 6.
First place Manhattan visits cellar team Sugar Land in a division battle.

Game #1:

After a 2-out error by Jacoby allows a run to score, Tony Bernazard clouts a 3-run HR for a 4-0 SLS lead. Young goes the distance on a 4-hitter. Sugar Land only gets 5 hits themselves but wins 4-0.

Game #2:

Diaz’ 2-run HR in the fourth gives SLS an early 2-0 lead. In the 5th Kingery singles in Bernazard making it 3-0. Diaz triples in Young in the 6th and Dawson’s error makes it 5-0. In the top of the 8th, Felder triples in Jody Davis as Manhattan finally scores but the final is 5-1 SLS as grade 5 Storm Davis goes 8 2/3.

Game #3:

Jody Davis’ double in the 2nd off Blyleven gives Manhattan its first lead of the series. Later in the inning Griffin singles in Davis. In the fourth, Griffin gets another RBI, singling in Williams. Bottom 5, after a Blyleven SAC, Marshall singles in Oberkfell to put Sugar Land on the board but trailing 3-1. Top 6, Griffin triples in WIlliams, 4-1. Final is Manhattan winning 6-1.

Game #4:

Dawson 1st-inning SF gives MGH the early 1-0 lead. Bottom 2: Diaz singles in Sharperson who had tripled. Mazzilli’s SF makes it 2-1. Mike Young HR in the 4th to make it 3-1. Top 7, Griffin (there’s that guy again) singles in J. Davis to make it 3-2. Sax’s single brings in Griffin and ties it up. Top 8, Jacoby’s single gives MGH a 4-3 lead which is the final score.

Game #5:

First inning: Yount walks, steals and Dawson singles him in. T6: Dawson SF plates Yount. Zane Smith goes 7.1 scoreless for the 2-0 MGH win.

Game #6:

Itchy Straker starts as a grade 14. B4: Owen RBI single makes it 1-0 SLS. Meanwhile, Curt Young retires the first 22 until walking Jacoby but Kenny Williams hits GDP to end the 8th with the minimum faced by Young. NINTH INNING: Stanley grounds out, Griffin walks, PH Moreland flies out, then Sax flies out to preserve the NO-HITTER by Curt Young, who walks two and K’s 6.

Game #7:

Top 1: Jacoby singles in Sax and Joyner hits a 2-run HR for a quick MGH 3-0 lead. B1: Marshall hits a solo shot. T2: Felder singles and steals and Sax plates him with a single. Dawson with a solo shot in the 3rd. T4: J. Davis HR. T5: Davis doubles in Dawson, Griffin singles in Davis. 8-1 MGH. 7th: Jacoby HR. SLS gets two garbage runs but the final is an MGH 9-1 victory.

Series Summary *

Curt Young with a no-hitter in game 6! MGH wins four of seven unimpressively scoring one total run in the three losses.

Sutcliffe cruises into the ninth before giving up three to make it close.

Game #2:

Black scatters 3 hits in the CG shutout, Gantner and Lindeman go deep to power the Cougars.

Game #3:

In a sloppy game (3 errors each) Clovis wins it in the bottom of the ninth when Murray singles in Stanicek.

Perry garners 4 hits, and Glenn Wilson drives home 4 to lead the Goldeye in a romp. Wilson and Brookens homered for the fish.

Game #5:

CLC 9 WGE 2 W-Bankhead (2-4) S-Smith (4) L-Bosio (5-6)
Reggie drove in three with 3 hits including a pair of 2 baggers and Pete Stanichek chipped in with 3 hits as well to go with his 3 runs.

Game #6:

CLC 3 WGE 2 W-Sutcliffe (5-8) S-Howell (1) L-Dixon (0-2)
Sutcliffe wins again going deep into the eighth before giving way to Howell covering for an exhausted bullpen. Brantley had 3 hits and all 3 Clovis ribbies with a homer and a pair of singles.

WGE 9 CLC 2 W-Power (2-11) L-Black (3-6)
Power goes the distance as the Goldeye say “enough” and batter Cougar pitching with 15 hits, Bergmann leads the parade with 4 as Calderon, Wilson, Stillwell, and Valle knock in a pair each.

Chicago overcomes 4 RBI by Shelby with a 4 run 6th inning (3-run HR by Virgil) and a late SF by Hrbek.

Boggs sets the tone early with a 2-run bomb as Hershiser coasts for Chicago. Shelby has Stockton’s only RBI

HR: Boggs, Hrbek, Larkin, Phillips
Stockton makes it close but can’t overcome Chicago’s power surge (3 HRs, another early one by Boggs).

Pitchers’ duel as Stewart shuts them out until the 9th. Eck comes in a slams the door.

Game #5:

HR: Hrbek, Canseco, Upshaw
Chicago jumps out to an early lead, but the Stockton bullpen and offense combine to pull it out.

Game #6:

HR: Canseco, Davis
Hurst goes all the way, and Stockton gets HRs from Canseco and Upshaw, Reynolds collects the other RBI off the bench.

Game #7:

STO 2 – CHI 0
WP: Cox LP: Hershiser
Cox outduels Hershiser, with a complete game shutout. Carmelo Martinez has both Stockton RBIs.

Series Summary *

Chicago takes the series 4 games to 3, but probably expected even better results after taking the first 4 in a row.
